Want an actual waterproof coat with a hood for muggy weather.

Have had to resort to my only truly waterproof coat today but it's too warm for this weather. I'm boiling. Is a cagoule really the only option? Are Uniqlo's jackets really not waterproof? I am trying to avoid using an umbrella as carry enough to work as it is

Being stylish would be great but I don't hold out much hope.

Yep they are waterproof

JeopardyMoose · 02/08/2023 21:48

Uniqlo blocktech are great when new but they have an expiry date on them (found on a label inside the coat after I had it a while) and lose their waterproof properties after a couple of years. I’ve had 2 and wouldn’t buy again.

Nellynoowhoareyou · 02/08/2023 22:11

I’ve got a packable Joules one too. It’s very lightweight and completely waterproof with a peaked (but not massive) hood. I don’t think it’s stylish though 🙈 That Barbour one is lush.

Nellynoowhoareyou · 02/08/2023 22:13

Finisterre is what my most stylish friend likes!

GirlySwotWhat · 02/08/2023 22:14

Sweaty Betty! Expensive but so worth it.. I swore I’d never wear a waterproof but caved eventually and I absolutely love mine.

Sarvanga38 · 02/08/2023 22:15

Seasalt - not exciting but very effective and some good lengths.

FinallyHere · 02/08/2023 22:22

Seriously weatherproof, beautiful fabric. It makes me happy when it rains because I know I can wear this coat https://www.protected-species.com/shop/

Packable waterproof jacket
I have bought this one following recommendations on another thread, waiting for it to arrive still but it does have good reviews for being waterproof yet lightweight so hopefully it won't be too hot to wear

Note to self - stay off mumsnet because I'm too easily influence. Just ordered one of these when I didn't know I needed one in the first place!

Ok - which one…?
😄

User65412 · 02/08/2023 22:33

I bought this last week! I also weirdly like a clear plastic jacket.
Pure plastic, so completely waterproof and not heavy or too warm.
Not to everyone's tastes obviously but I like to brighten up a rainy walk!

SwedishEdith · 02/08/2023 20:26

Thanks. Are they properly waterproof though? Or waterproof enough to walk 30 minutes in the rain and not get wet?

I have this, it’s definitely waterproof, it’s not packable but is moderately lightweight.

Frog Toggs

Very Stylish...

*I'll get me coat... (Ha..)

SwedishEdith · 02/08/2023 22:48

Oh, more lovely options to investigate. Thank you.

Good to hear Blocktech is waterproof, not so good it's only for two years.

And yes, that Barbour one is lovely 😍

I'm not sure how to make links look a bit less awful. But this one. I don't know how I've managed so many rainy days out with the children in their puddle suits whilst I'm soaked through. It's a no brainer, really! I've gone for the cheapest option for now to see how I get on with it.

BlueTeal · 02/08/2023 22:58

I asked an almost identical question on here about a year ago. Someone suggested Protected Species. I ordered online and tried a few of their styles. I kept the Typhoon. It is absolutely completely waterproof - mine has been tested hard! Superb investment. It isn’t sweaty, doesn’t feel like waterproof material and the hood stays up even in the wind.

ILikeDinosaurs · 02/08/2023 22:59

I have a simple Fatface rain mac. Don't know if it's completely waterproof but so far it's kept me dry in some heavy rains while travelling. Also wrinkle free especially as I've sat on it on several 7 hour flights. 30 quid in the sale! If I find it I'll link.

bairnk · 02/08/2023 23:01

Another vote for protected species! I love mine!

AlohaMoe · 02/08/2023 23:13

How about one of these? I love the fit of mine! https://www.hellyhansen.com/en_gb/w-seven-j-jacket-62066?color=629263

I have two of these (in different colours). They're fully waterproof and squish into a bag fairly well. They're won't be featured in Vogue any time soon but I've seen a lot worse.

These are actually great. I really like the sand colour. I think they are as chic as a Mac can be

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 02/08/2023 23:50

Another vote for Protected Species. I got mine about 5 years ago and it looks like new

ImSoShiney · 03/08/2023 00:12

You need goretex. Any brand, but genuine goretex. It will last years

Rainbowshit · 03/08/2023 01:46

I absolutely love my protected species jackets. I have several!
