Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

I enjoy a thing the unboxing of them on you tube , so don’t need to buy them lol. I will buy one but not decided which one . I need a new black eye liner pen and want to repurchase the Mac stac.
Things I don’t want are toners , Philip Kingsley elastersiser, cleansers, masks but yes probably have been spoilt with these .

kerstina · 09/09/2023 10:49

Watching the unboxing I mean !

loz12345 · 09/09/2023 10:52

I have loads of cleansers left from the Sephora one last year so am looking for one that doesn’t have many, I also have enough Philip Kingsley to last a few years 😂

AnnieSnap · 09/09/2023 11:54

From what I’m seeing, I may just use the money I would have spent on an advent calendar/s and use it to buy lovely things that I’d enjoy (favourite candles, fragrance etc) all at once as I wouldn’t usually buy them because I’d feel I couldn’t justify it! Would any one of us go out and spend £200/300 pounds on lovely things ‘just like that’ unless it was packaged-up in an advent calendar and hyped up? I guess some would, but not me!

AnnieSnap · 09/09/2023 11:56

Also, doing that, we can take advantage of Black Friday discounts.

BakeOffRewatch · 09/09/2023 12:04

@AprilLady thanks for the codes heads up.

Does anyone know what the Vogue box is made of? It’s something I’d like to keep forever as a jewellery storage on my dresser so if it’s made of cardboard I wouldn’t be happy.

redredwineub40 · 09/09/2023 12:47

I got the Estée Lauder blockbuster two years back - it’s a good deal and they must shift a lot, advanced night repair (eye and serum) are good products that make a difference.

I agree on advent fatigue! So many boxes and GWPs now it’s a crowded market.

Dee1224 · 09/09/2023 13:15

Sometimes EL allow purchase of the blockbuster set without the minimum spend in the Xmas sale and I think one year it was even reduced- sadly I had already bought one.

I will probably get one again this year, but may wait until closer to Xmas/after Xmas to see if something similar happens again 🤞

Dee1224 · 09/09/2023 13:18

Also, if I spend at EL in December I should get my birthday gift😀

QueefofSheena · 09/09/2023 14:07

I've ordered the Blockbuster as I needed to order the perfume anyway. I'm having surgery shortly so I want to get the Christmas gift shopping that I know I can get now out of the way.

Dee1224 · 09/09/2023 14:11

It does look lovely @QueefofSheena - hope your surgery goes well!

Thank you 😊 hopefully routine 🤞

I'm still using the bag from the last one I had, to keep premium bits from my stash in. I've been alternating using advanced night repair and Tret recently too. Not sure if that's a good idea or not.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/09/2023 15:39

I prefer Elizabeth Arden to EL. They also have a blockbuster set but I'm not sure that I can justify it 😬

I assumed that it was cardboard like all the others but would be interested to know if it isn't. Might make it more worthwhile.

PurpleGreenandWhiteAreTheNewPrimaryColours · 09/09/2023 15:41

The blockbuster arrived and doesn't disappoint, although the eyeshadow palette is more matte/ muted than I thought. My mother will probably like it for her birthday.

The best thing about it however is the beautiful red velvet case!

BakeOffRewatch · 09/09/2023 19:05

@MidnightMeltdown this link says “All housed in a keepsake box you won’t want to part with that has been sustainably designed to be recycled after use.”. That could mean anything! Sustainable means more biodegradable these days, than built to last like plastic. Though I guess metal passes the sustainability vanity test despite being expensive and difficult to get.

I'd doubt that the Vogue box isn't cardboard.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/09/2023 19:47

Yes, from the photos it looks like thick cardboard to me

PomRuns · 09/09/2023 20:35

I can’t buy vogue after the ridiculous power women article.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 09/09/2023 21:14

Not keen on Vogue's offer. I don't have pierced ears, so the hoops are pointless, and the rest is quite samey.

Definitely advent calendar fatigue over here. With the same products coming up over and over it's clear which brands and products have tonnes of margin in, if they can afford to essentially give them away or massively discount them to put them in so many calendars.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 09/09/2023 21:15

If Typology do one this year I think I'll get it. Last year sold out in 24 hours. I love everything of theirs that I've tried and some of the products have become MVPs in my stash, so I think I'd enjoy getting theirs.

Stoic123 · 09/09/2023 21:53

This is the Telegraph's verdict yesterday - screenshot as behind paywall.

I'm a bit confused about how "best beauty calendar overall" differs from "best beauty calendar for products".

Answers on a postcard please.....

Maybe it’s the overall effect? Liberty always looks beautiful and I often feel the boxes of others are just not very Christmassy.

Or, more likely, the writer prefers Liberty personally or has the best relationship with their beauty team!

Yep, there's always a relationship somewhere- whether personally or with the ad team.

A friend of mine is a beauty editor who works for major titles and I am sad beyond belief we no longer live near each other as the sheer quantity of amazing products she gets and her generosity with them…
