Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

M&S are selling L’Occitane with 20% off at the moment. Have just bought for my mum!

Oh, I've gone right off the H&B one now I've seen the unboxing! Too many DoDs for me.
That leaves me just JL...it had better be good

ASOS is quite good for the price. Not for me either, I have/have had too many of the items already and the rest aren't that interesting to me.

Come on JL and LiB! Sephora is winning for me so far I think, but I'm still on the fence about even getting one this year.

That Charlotte Tilbury palette is everywhere this year.

I saw the LIB Sunday Times edit boxes. I prefer the more expensive one and I can't stand India Knight anyway, but it's not enough to tempt me even with a code.

Normally I get excited by Space NK and Liberty GWP but I thought both were a total letdown - latter especially, I glanced at the email and deleted. I have enough tiny sample bottles of moisturiser to last me a lifetime (seriously) and there was nothing that stood out as new/exciting/generous in either. It's all helping my resolution to really try to finally work through my ridiculous beauty stash and not keep adding to the pile.

BTW, I know you don't want dampeners on here and as a reforming addict I understand the joy these products bring but please remember how bad these tiny bottles are for the environment, they can't be recyled kerbside as too smal so please use something like L'Occitane or Boots recycling schemes to dispose of them - even then remember plastic isn't infinitely recyclable. I am trying to switch to buying as many full-size products in glass or aluminum packaging.

Asos has got some good brands in there but I would like to see an unboxing of it to see exactly how small these products are. As it is available now hopefully there will be one on YouTube soon. Why the Gua Sha though!
Asos tends to do lots of sales throughout the year so might be worth it with 20%+ off
Still waiting on Boots, JL,Elle (?) and LIB otherwise it will be marks and Spencer for me this year and I would buy Harrods or Selfridges possibly if it is discounted the same as last year

Are we still waiting on Flannels too? They did a good one last year and I think it eventually went on sale with a decent reduction.

Ha @Enriquetta i nearly posted the same - large bottles you might take to boots or John Lewis to recycle too, but I bet most of the little bits get chucked. The space nk GWP looks like they’ve simply assembled a bunch of their free samples into a pack

People can also check if there is a Terracycle recycling scheme near them. A lovely lady near me runs one and collects all kinds of things, including used make up, old lip balms, tubes etc. I take the point about the tiny bottles and plastic not being infinitely recyclable but it does alleviate my guilt a bit to send things to her that are not covered by kerbside recycling.

Yes but I wonder if they'll do one this year after having to reduce by such a large % last year. I got the 2022 one but I just looked and the 2021 calendar was almost identical so we'll see what they do this year.

Apparently the 2021 one was cancelled at the last minute after some orders had been taken, which is why last year's was almost identical.

@Housewife2010 Ah that rings a bell! I was basing my previous post on beautyadventcalendar.net, they must never have updated the 2021 page. Hmm who knows then? I think if they did one this year it would be more popular because last year's was so good and people know about them now, but equally it sounds like they've had issues in the past maybe producing them? And then had to discount to shift them. So I could understand them not bothering.

OMG @Doubleraspberry I just looked at Dyptique. It’s gorgeous and so me (I don’t wear make-up, or a variety of hair products), but sadly, I can’t justify the price 😟

@AnnieSnap it is so expensive, I know. I have been saving up with it at the back of my mind.

I think I’m out for this year unless I jump for Kiehl’s as I know I’ll use it, but I might not bother at all. They’re all so tedious this time.

Just been having a look at Flannels. It says they are doing beauty crackers instead of a calendar this year.

I'm hoping the Boots premium one might be good.

I've been naughty and pre-ordered The Look Fantastic one as I got an email offer for £15 off. Fuck it's Christmas (soon enough 😂)

My Harrods and Harrods fragrance have both arrived and I'm happy with those.

Other calendars that I think look decent are Selfridges, Space NK, Sephora and M&S. All the Ss!

What puts me off Selfridges is that the BS clarifying serum has terrible reviews on Cult Beauty and that's the big ticket item in that calendar.

I've completely ruled out Liberty, F&M, HN, Cult Beauty, LF, H&B and ASOS. Diptyque has far too many mini candles for my liking.

Agree with @Puravida23 that YouTube unboxings are really helpful. In previous years I've decided to buy calendars that I'd previously ruled out after seeing the unboxing!

I’ve just seen that Cowshed’s calendar is £150 again, with a value of only £180!

I got it for £40 in December last year and didn’t think it was good value even at that price (plus the contents were different from as advertised on their website). I remember one door was a single mini nail file that literally lasted one use before it fell apart.

Cowshed removed a serum and replaced it with the mini file for their much reduced offering. I bought it for DD but complained about the serum and they forwarded one. Smells strangely like manure!

I've got my Harrods fragrance calendar and am thinking of either the main Harrods or Liberty, or John Lewis depending on what's in it. My husband has bought me the Jo Loves calendar for a combined xmas and birthday present last year and I got an Acqua di Parma 2021 calendar last year as well which was reduced to £80 in TK Maxx. There's too much of the same in this year's Jo Loves and I don't think Jo Malone has revealed what's in their calendar yet - are there usually any other fragrance calendars apart from Diptique and pengaligons? Did Zara do one a couple of years ago?
