Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

There are so many ACs now (maybe there always have been a lot but lots of these are new to me) there must be some desperate competition between them all. I read on another thread that the CoL crisis meant many ACs weren’t sold last year, so I wonder they’re announcing them so early (or so it seems), when people aren’t panicking about how they’re going to pay the leccy this winter?

I thought last year’s Look Fantastic AC was the best they’ve ever done, so I’ll probably get that one and one other.

PomRuns · 23/07/2023 10:28

Thank for the thread. Looking forward to the spreadsheet that AprilLady is so skilled at doing.
No interest in Liberty - although love the new box.
Fortnums looks fab so far. Keen to see John Lewis but they are not so early doors normally.

Blossomtoes · 23/07/2023 10:29

I think they’re getting us to sign up as a guide to production volumes so they avoid lots of unsold product. I’ve been accumulating Beauty Drop credit for the Liberty one but am underwhelmed. I don’t want hair products or bracelets.

Puravida23 · 23/07/2023 10:29

I do think Liberty always have interesting perfumes . Anyone own Poets of Berlin? I love the name. What does it smell like? Apparently it was inspired by David Bowie . That is the only thing which is interesting me in the Liberty advent. The rest is a bit meh (Augustus Bader again, Barbara Sturm, AA roller ball, Handcream) not even a nice bath oil. Think I may just buy the perfume seperately
looking forward to the other releases. I bought JL and LIB last year and have used or am still using most the stuff . For me they were definitely worth it
This thread even inspired me to dig out the MAC lipstick (which I had decided originally was very summer and forgotten about!) from the JL advent today!

Isabelle70 · 23/07/2023 10:30

I have BD credit so will get the Liberty one.
Last year I also had MAC (too much makeup and should never had bought it), Whittards hot chocolate and a chocolate calendar.
I will need another calendar for sure……

Pinenu · 23/07/2023 10:34

@Puravida23 there’ll probably be a load of the perfumes on Vinted/eBay in December.

I forgot about the LiB calendar. That was probably my favourite from last year. I hope they do it again.

MavisMcMinty · 23/07/2023 10:42

I’m a newish member of Latest in Beauty and have been tempted by many of the edits already, so that’ll be an AC to consider.

The good thing about the Liberty one is the credit accumulated (hopefully I’ll have almost half the cost by the time it goes on sale) and that so far they haven’t done the “kiss of death to a purchase” i.e. the text verification of payment with my bank as that just doesn’t work down here with no mobile phone reception. And also it’s a beautiful box and the three things that most tempt me are the mirror, the bracelet and the hair clips! Mainly because I already have so much of everything else.

FredaFox · 23/07/2023 10:55

So excited you started a thread
I tend to buy two , one for dec one for Jan though I did get one for November too one year

I also think there will be less calendars this year
I signed up to liberty bd due to you lot so I'll get the liberty ac with my credit but will be after another
That said I am not a fan of AB at all, I need to read the full list of contents

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/07/2023 11:03

Will be watching and reading with interest, thanks Op. DH usually gets me the deluxe L'Occitane advent calendar which can be hit or miss. Last years was better than previous ones and I’ve had a liberty once before which I really liked.

redredwineub40 · 23/07/2023 11:09

I’ve had one of the latest in beauty mavis and liked it. Not sure on Liberty either - I like Sturm HA but I’ve had that face cream and it’s nothing to write home about. Def leaning to F&M.

went HN last year - not bad but the treatments thrown in all had short expiry dates and by the time I got to March to check a lot were just about to expire. Only one of the treatment cards was valid to the end of this year.

so won’t be going for HN again if it has the treatment model.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 23/07/2023 11:15

@Puravida23 Anyone own Poets of Berlin? I love the name. What does it smell like? Apparently it was inspired by David Bowie .

Now I need this, though it would be a lot cheaper to just buy the perfume.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/07/2023 11:15

I’m almost doubting myself but (as I’ve just posted on the Beauty Drop thread) — surely that isn’t the contents for this coming year’s Liberty advent. It’s a list of last year’s contents. That’s why it looks like stuff you’ve seen before.

It says so on the page you’ve linked to, right?

Everyone seems to be reading it differently from me though so I’m starting to feel confused 👀

Stoic123 · 23/07/2023 11:16

Looks like the 2023 Liberty contents list has been taken down and now saying it's TBC. Definitely wasn't the message earlier....

Stoic123 · 23/07/2023 11:17

@LemonJuiceFromConcentrate - they've switched out the link now. Was full list before. If you look at the picture, you'll see the mirror, bracelet etc people are talking about.

TreesinthePark · 23/07/2023 11:23

Thanks for the new thread. I have a huge holiday to pay for by December so I'll have to wait and see what's left for me this year.

They definitely had 2023 contents on the Liberty site over last couple of days. I looked at it and decided I definitely didn't want it because it was all too familiar.

I would have been on track to cover the full advent cost with BD credit but I bought the Jet Set kit which I'm very happy with. The 2023 advent wasn't tempting enough for me to top up BD credit by maybe £50/£60 'real' cash.

Stokey · 23/07/2023 11:31

Checking in. I always think to myself at this time of year that I don't really need an advent calendar and then end up succumbing. I've had Liberty's a couple of times but not the last two years. Last year I went for John Lewis and Fenwick's when it was half price. I actually preferred Fenwick's for the perfumes and brands I hadn't tried before, but it wouldn't have been value for money at full price as had a lot of miniatures.

Ap24 · 23/07/2023 11:38

Why have they switched out the link? Will the contents possibly change?

I did have a good look this morning and also decided the liberty one isn't for me. The blush and lipsticks were far too warm for my skin colour, I don't want a roller ball oil thing or that bracelet. The only things I liked the sound of were the perfumes and the candle which I have plenty of. The mirror is cute but I already own a couple. I am a BD subscriber so I'll either wait for the sales or see what the GWP is.

notanicepersonapparently · 23/07/2023 11:45

I’m hoping Liberty have pulled it for a re-think.

viques · 23/07/2023 12:00

MavisMcMinty · 23/07/2023 09:53

Well I wondered about the 12-day calendars on another thread and was told you start them ON Christmas Day and open one a day until 12th Night.

That sound like nearly six weeks of treats!

I think the F and M looks interesting, they are emphasising mostly full sized products too. And the box looks fabulous . I might buy it as an early Christmas present for my DD who is a pain to buy stuff for but who would really enjoy it.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 23/07/2023 12:04

I’m so looking forward to this

Too many Drawers of Doom for me.

But - I liked the 3 perfumes, the full size mascara would be worth a try (tired of diddy travel/sample vesions) and would use the Luna and candle.

I'm guessing there is an embargo and the website published too early. I doubt the contents will change this late in the day, they have taken all the promo photos, and I've heard retailers plan their AC contents over a year in advance.

GentlemanJack · 23/07/2023 12:23

I got the Flannels advent and the Debenhams one last year. Debenhams wasn't exciting but as it was half price, worth it. I used everything I think.
I remember the tomato candle from somewhere last year so that's a repeat for sure.
It might just be me but I can't justify any more hair conditioners that I'll never use. I don't have the inclination or the patience for hair masks either. So messy and inconvenient.
The ASOS was good last year so watching out with interest this time.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 23/07/2023 12:26

I had Holland and Barrett last year. And I’ve had a few of theirs so I’m probably going to go for that again just because I do use everything in it.

I recently got the Latest in Beauty Get the Gloss edit and thought it was great.

MidnightMeltdown · 23/07/2023 12:27

Joining. I ended up with far too many advent calendars last year (bought a couple and then was tempted by all the heavy discounts and sales!), so need to careful this year. I don't really need anything, but will probably buy one anyway!

I thought that Harrods was the best last year, so looking forward to seeing what they come out with.
