I’ve been admiring the latest tranche of Phoebe Philo offerings. One or two things I really rather liked - shoes in particular - but I don’t deserve them. Clothes are already piling up scarcely worn because of an unusually weird year of mostly staying at home …

I. Am. Not. Buying. Anymore. Clothes. For. A. While.

I said this too, recently, and then I walked into Zara yesterday out of curiosity to see the Studio Nicholson collab (tl;dr version of all the things I tried on, the women's clothes are weird, it comes up big in the places where you want it to fit but kind of regular fitting where it's not fitted, I normally drown in SN clothing so very Confused The fabrics are really nice though, much nicer than the previous SN men only collab last time, but overall the men's stuff seems nicer) and now have a pair of men's trousers in my possession. Somewhat conflicted as it's mostly polyester, really nice high quality polyester and there's some argument to be made for indestructible winter trousers but they're also dry clean only and that's always a gamble with polyester to DIY and unlike wool trousers you can't just air them out or steam them and extend the time before they need actual cleaning. Plus the whole polyester is shit for the environment thing. So I'm still debating returning them but I really like the shape and stiff quality of fabric combo.

I'm another chiming in that Red needs to get that skirt.

I only just managed to catch a bit of Phoebe before heading to bed last night (I'm guessing they've identified the US market as their core audience with that time slot?). I was taken by the wrap skirt but then realised the model has no hips and she did something very similar in felt at Céline and that fit weird on me too on account of having hips. The rest was either repeats or meh, to me. I am ever thankful for her inspiring me to seek out the shearling coat though as the weather has been super cold here and I've never been toastier. If I had known shearling coats were that comforting in the cold I would have splurged on one years ago.

Ahh, @botemp the best thing I've bought this year is a viscose/polyester blend dress from Co, I've worn it everywhere and in every way, it's probably the most versatile item I own, it has been an excellent buy, but yes, I'm not going to DIY Wasing it, it's a dry-clean jobby. (And I put pretty much everything in the machine, 1k cashmere, my Jil Sander technical fabric skirt, I lob it all in on a delicate wash in a mesh bag and dry flat), I just feel that it's not going to go well for this particular dress.

& re shearling, I've got a Jospeh one I bought to go to Canada in about 2002, it's still going strong, they are the warmest.

Also @CrkdLttrCrkdLttr & @Floisme

I want that hat!

But;

A) I'm not buying any clothes...

B) I've got piles of hats that I don't wear very often.

Maybe I need to wear more hats.

EffortlessDesmond · 29/11/2023 13:37

Galiana, wear more hats! Tis the season.

Another person who should give up shopping is me. However, in fairness, I just went to M&S to top up on thermals and knickers, but acquired a cheap lurex gold cardi too. It's a very good thing that our nearest Zara is 50 miles away, bo.

Plus, I bought DesmondJr's Christmas present this morning in the Rise & Fall Black Friday week offer and somehow a bright blue poplin shirt fell into the basket. That's for next summer though. I think that means it doesn't count.

Any news on the skirt red?

Galiana · 29/11/2023 14:19

I really should @EffortlessDesmond, they do quite suit me, I can only ever make them work with my mad hair if I wear it in a low hair do. Or a beanie Panama or Fedora when I let it go wild.

Studio Nicholson has a skirt this season that is somewhat similar to Philo Phoebe. Of her new stuff, I loved the brooch (attached) and the belt (can't be bothered with a pic). Both amazing items I'd love to have that I know I would never find the occasion to wear, haha.

In terms of Ann Demeulemeester boots via bo, they arrived. They are sadly a little bit too small and also they didn't win me over in terms of the level of execution - nor comfort. Actually I got a sciatica from trying them on (for the first time in years). Instead of feeling resigned though, I immediately ordered the jay boots that bo also posted before (magically different coupons worked on them which greatly reduced their crazy price and there was a women's 41). They are seductive in their offer of two pairs in one - short boots and attachable shafts. I've never spend so much money on boots and so if they fit and I keep them, I am joining the I.Am.Not.Buying.Anymore.Clothes
