They're these Desmond but I also got these work trousers in the denim a couple of months ago.

They're different shapes so it depends what you want really. The work trousers are a more fitted, wider leg and the combats are relaxed and slouchy. I think they're also in a slightly heavier fabric than the work trousers - it tells you in 'Details'

You're right as always bo, no more tweed for me or at least not until I've found some new shoes, although I think that'll have to wait until after Christmas now cos I'm just about all spent up. I love the shearling coat by the way but, if it's not right, then it's not right.

Well this churros and hot chocolate were a revelation to me. Churros did not have sugar (tick for me), chocolate was literally melted thick chocolate where you could dip the churro. I had them at chocolatería San Gines, which I highly recommend.
In Arg we have them with sugar on top and a cup of hot milk with chocolate but I preferred this version. No intel on Prado chocolate cake.

Regarding the boots , I have to agree with Bo, that me personally I would like some design feature for that money, but on the other hand if the quality is up there and fit like an amazing glove… why not.
The boots you posted Bo look exactly like ones an Asian lady on front of me had on the airport security. She was asked to take them off … I admired the boots along with everything else she was wearing.

Redandblue11 · 10/11/2023 17:06

You can always find a space for another piece of tweed Flo 😉

microbius · 10/11/2023 17:14

I hear you re: boots. The thing is, I have exceptionally capricious feet, and I don't even try buying anything at lower price points - I know from bitter experience - it is not going to ever work. All that happens is that it feels kind of ok, only to wear on the street for 10-15 minutes when it becomes clear it is not going to work and by that time it is too late to return them. It's just such an open-ended experiment that I might as well throw money away

Now, justifying a high level spend than SN is difficult because I'd like to have another trip to Japan and actually would love a big South American voyage. I would go for an airplane ticket to far-away lands over boots. I cannot see anything reasonable that I can believe will work for me at 350-550 which is higher than high street but lower than designer level. And then, basically, the majority doesn't fit as I am not prepared to have even a second of discomfort with my feet. Any advice and pointers very welcome

Galiana · 10/11/2023 17:26

I just popped in for a nosy as I am absolutely useless at consistency, BUT obviously simpatico because I've just taken off exactly those Legeres boots (see photo) and they slip on and off quite easily, I'm a 40/41 so not small of foot. I do have a particular pair of Aeyde boots with elastic panels that send me into a claustrophobic panic every time I take them off.

Love the Ann Demeulemeester boots @botemp.

Camper sometimes bridges the gap between crap high street and designer. These have a zip and reviews seem to indicate they come up roomy.

They've also got a fetching all turquoise pair but I suspect that's not what you're looking for.

Sorry for the confusion, Flo, I am keeping the shearling coat but it just requires a bit of consideration with whatever I'm wearing which explains why I didn't just buy it at the time but having at home meant I could try it with plenty of things and it goes with enough.

I second the Camper recommendation, I always thought of them as a bit of a hippie pasty shoe maker, they have been on my radar for the last couple of years though as makers of quite interesting footwear, in a good way.

botemp · 10/11/2023 17:40

Yeah, Camper can really lean into fugly footwear sometimes but then occasionally they have some really interesting shoes that don't really look like your idea of Camper at all. Well made, especially considering the price, and generally are very comfortable.

Stop encouraging me with the Ann D boots Galiana, I'll be in Antwerp next week, the temptation is too large 🙈

Galiana · 10/11/2023 17:50

You have to at least try them on @botemp...

What are your styling fantasies with them?

botemp · 10/11/2023 17:57

A horse? 🐎

But if we're spending fantasy money (and not a nice thoroughbred) a Rick Owens cape would go nicely with it.

@Galiana you’ll have to forgive me as I’m now imagining your delicately slim ankles - with extreme envy. All the same, your boots are just as rumpled as mine even though you haven’t been fighting them to the death. That’s a relief as I’d been feeling I’ve ill-treated mine.

Who asked if I’d tried on any Ann Demeulemeester boots? Not for years actually. At the time when I could have bought a pair without too much heart-searching they wouldn’t have suited either my City life or my gardening life. And now I never try on anything in actual shops.

@Floisme your new outfit is perfection. What will you be wearing on your feet?

Galiana · 10/11/2023 18:10

Ahh, a Rick Owens Cape would be on point.

I wore a MaxMara Cape with my Legeres today.

Boots and capes. I'm here for that.

Floisme · 10/11/2023 18:36

Thank you Crkd! I've got a good assortment of brogues and clompy flat boots and shoes - Solovair, Dr Martens etc etc, but I'm beginning to think it's time to up my shoe game a bit. It always ends up neglected because I'm not quite as interested in shoes as I am in other clothes, but I'm conscious that there are some interesting flats around at the moment and that I really should take advantage while I can.

It'll have to wait till 2024 though before I have cash again!

Galiana · 10/11/2023 18:48

I always see you comment @Floisme that you're not interested in shoes, and it always fascinates me because you love clothes so much. Bags I get, I like bags for their form and craftsmanship, but they're an adjunct really.

Shoes though are an intrinsic part of an outfit to me, I think about shoes a lot!

Floisme · 10/11/2023 19:30

I hear you Galiana, it makes no sense to me either!

I'm probably phrasing it badly when I say I'm not interested, because that implies I don't care what shoes I wear when I'm actually quite fussy, especially about what I don't like - e.g I don't do heels (unless they're platforms, which I love) or trainers.

Maybe it's more a case of there being so many other clothes that I love that I rarely think about shoes so they always fall to the bottom of any lists, by which time I've run out of money.

Galiana · 10/11/2023 19:48

I get that @Floisme, I often work from the bottom up though, because I've got shoes that I love, my question is not 'what shoes shall I wear?'

But, 'What shall I wear with these shoes?'

I'm a shoe person. I think I've got about 80 pairs. They all get worn. Unfortunately my 15 YO DD has also noticed my shoe collection...

EffortlessDesmond · 10/11/2023 20:32

Be worried, Galiana. Be Very Worried. I'm another one who works up from shoes, because pretty much everything else I put on in the morning is only for everyday life. Not a Met Gala. So shoes and jeans and T shirts need to be as perfect as possible, because the combination of shoes, jeans, T-shirts and jumpers (plus waterproofs) defines my style. On other days, I walk DDog in exercise leggings and an ancient ruched skirt over it. I think it's age, but at 67, I really don't like walking around the supermarket in leggings.

Galiana · 11/11/2023 00:10

Ahh @EffortlessDesmond we've gone beyond that!

I know that @Floisme knows that my sister's husband died very suddenly recently, what do we do when life goes sideways?

We buy clothes.

My darling and beloved sister is a Dolce & Gabanna girl, she is an Itallian widow writ large, she just is. I've arranged an appointment at D&G to buy the most fabulous funeral outfit for her.

She's going to be fucking fabulous.

Redandblue11 · 11/11/2023 10:07

I would love to see your shoe collection Galiana.
I also sit on the fence re shoes … meaning, I admire them and wish I was more considerate when buying them. Having said that, I have some nice shoes but if I compare with my clothes , the clothes are the main thing for me and I end up wearing a shoe that doesn’t detract attention from the clothes type thing. Only very occasionally I do it the other way round and people really notice when I do that.

So sorry to hear about your sis husband 💐. What a shock must be. If she loves D&G, certainly dressing in that is the most fitting for the occasion.

Floisme · 11/11/2023 10:45

Good to see you back @Galiana. I know you will find the perfect outfit for your sister and that she will love you for it. Flowers

Floisme · 11/11/2023 10:52

I think the other thing about shoes and me is that I'm used to not having much choice. Normally I don't like at least 80% of what's out there because heels. That's not a complaint and I've never struggled to find shoes I like, but I've never had much chance to experiment either, until recently. I keep telling myself I should make the most of the flats trend because it won't last forever and it might not come around again for a long time. But then I forget and go and spend my money on something else.

microbius · 11/11/2023 11:14

Am so sorry about your sister and her husband, Galiana!

Thank you everyone for your feedback on the boots and for the Camper link. The Camper ones indeed look very similar to SN (also sold out or not stocked in 42). The key thing here would be the fit - how wide is the shaft, how high, etc [I do remember historically having some Camper boots, they did well]

In terms of the shoes discussion. I'll try to be profound here :) I very often like my clothes not to put an obligation on me. I think how we dress is connected to how we are as characters. I am an introvert and social communication is work for me. If clothes speaks louder than I want, I perceive it as extra communication I have to do and it can be taxing. Obviously at times, you want to make statements, but other times, I don't want to be obliged to anything by my clothes. That's why my favourite everyday wfh clothes is well selected Margaret Howell. It is perfect, it doesn't demand anything, her clothes (well, at least some of it)

I experience shoes then as even more a demand put on me. Not only what the shoes say when they speak, but also a physical demand in how they impact your gait, ability to move freely, run if needed, etc (this can be true of the clothes, too).

So basically I want is ultimate independence [this is self-ironic; I understand that all kinds of clothes is communication etc]

Floisme · 11/11/2023 11:31

Hmm that's interesting. Many years ago a man told me he thought I was an introvert who wore eye catching things as a diversion, so that people would ask me about my clothes rather than anything intrusively personal. He quite possibly had a point but he was also a bit of a wanker, unfortunately, so I never took it any further.

banivani · 11/11/2023 20:37

Galiana, sorry about your family's loss but what a lovely send-off he'll get, fashion-wise!

Micro, glad to have inspired re: boots. ;) Very interested by your clothes theory there. I've often said I'm wallpaper, not art, when it comes to clothes. I don't for example like to fiddle with something to wear it in a different way. It does have something to do with what I feel I'm communicating. I'm not particularly reticent sadly, I often blurt out too much, but possibly I wish to counter that by dressing more discreetly!

Bo, I don't care about pictures of brown stuff. WHERE IS IT IN MY SHOPS. Four acrylic jumpers and two pairs of polyester trousers, that's what I've found.

In my head I've created lovely outfits of greens, rusts and browns based on wool/tweed. In practice I wear black trousers with navy tops every day because that's all there is. It's all my own fault for not learning/starting to sew of course, I know that.

EffortlessDesmond · 12/11/2023 12:15

Good on you for sorting out your widowed sister's shopping for her Galiana. Very sorry for her loss Flowers.
