How about some sort of double layer dress with a chiffon overlay so a bit floaty. My sister wore one to a wedding recently and she is a tiddler at 5ft 1. I don’t think she would appreciate me posting a pic. She actually bought it on Amazon of all places. It was sage green with a neutral similar colour Chiffon overlay with flowers embroidered round the bottom and sleeves and bodice.

ButterflyCharm · 18/06/2023 10:25

It wasn’t this dress but this is similar, this is from Roman originals and is £55. That would look nice with platform sandals plus lots of colours you could pick out.

You haven’t said what body shape or size but something like that would be forgiving on many people.

Well kiss goodbye to your wallet, so more sort of edgy really than hippy. Are they the sort that chuck on very expensive stuff that your Nan would think looks daft?

When just a girl I was briefly involved in the world of fashion and know what you mean.

Mojoj · 18/06/2023 10:44

Ha ha ha, I read that as "Waking in a field at 50" and I can't stop laughing.....🤣🤣🤣🤣

Kougarchew · 18/06/2023 12:19

Oh, @Kougarchew … You could at least suggest a rough sort of budget. Unless you want 100 links to Shein?

How d’you know you want a dress? What’s your usual style? What sort of clothes do you look best in? How far in advance are you looking?

Kougarchew · 18/06/2023 12:20

Like cos ish . However , i am a five foot hourglass and would look like a ball .

I usually wear true vintage or joanie.
they wear floor lenghts dresses with clashing accessories.. or over sized toast like items . Lots of primary colours .. big earings . A bit ab fab . Or vintage dressing gown .
id pay £200 ? I need a spectacular dress for another occasion too so wd re wear hopefully lots
i cant have the neck too low as being small it causes boob issues!

I am not a shy dresser . I hate purple if that helps . V pale skin .

Kougarchew · 18/06/2023 12:27

Whilst i cd spend 200 , i am not aiming to spend that and wd be equally happy at £30 !
id also like some platform like sandals. With a flat bottom . I absolutely cannot do any heel at all except wedge or platform !

Hmm … Grin Was going to suggest this (partly because relatively easy to have tailored to fit) but perhaps not your colours? Anyway, have a look at the website - you might find something.

Sounds like Farm Rio might fit the bill

AinsleysOnions · 18/06/2023 13:00

I was recently at a wedding reception in a field and if makes you feel better about shoes, everyone was in flats, trainers, Birkenstocks or walking boots. It was a great relief!

GulesMeansRed · 18/06/2023 13:07

Big fan of Nobody's Child dresses. Suitable for all ages.

SapatSea · 18/06/2023 13:20

I would forget what others will be wearing and wear what you feel comfortable in. You may not feel "right" in the arty crowds choice of clothing. Wear a dress from the brand Joanie you said you like. You can always accessorise it with a sunhat or jewellery to be a bit more arthouse! Given the British weather you may need wellies and a rain mac!

Just seen this for £30 in H&M. Could easily dress it up with yellow platforms and some Jewellery.

If the shapes not great, you could find a really lovely belt to give a waist.

CapaciousHag · 18/06/2023 14:29

I almost mentioned Kemi Telford - but then wondered if it might not all be too enveloping for someone of 5ft?

Enterthewolves · 18/06/2023 14:32

I know what you mean, but there’s a woman at work who is 5’1 and wears KT and looks amazing - but she’s generally a force!
