I love that coggles dress but I'd seriously look like I'd borrowed my 5 yr old great neices frock if I wore it.

Redtaper · 18/06/2023 17:15

I went to one earlier this year and wore a green slip dress with a kimono jacket from 100 stars and silver short boots.

SylvanianFrenemies · 18/06/2023 17:18

Try Wolf and Badger.

justawee · 18/06/2023 17:18

I put the WB dress into goggle lense and this was suggested

If you don’t mind me offering an opinion, @justawee, that style of frock comes at different levels of fabric expense and cutting expertise and, while I might have been happy with the £30 version in my 20s, at 50 I’d be wanting the superior skills of, say, the Cecilie Bahnsen version to help be look my best.

Go as yourself. Don't try to be someone you're not to fit in. It won't work and you'll be uncomfortable. If they're really arty types rather than pretentious they'll appreciate originality.

If you were to spend £200 on something you loved, what would it be?

CapaciousHag · 18/06/2023 19:35

Taking a different direction - can’t recall if anyone’s mentioned Palava yet. No idea if they’re sold by Joanie, you may already be familiar with the brand, @Kougarchew ? Always seem to be quite hipster-cool-ish to me (though not at all my own style). Quietly confident rather than spectacular. But certainly good enough for a wedding in a field, especially if beautifully accessorised.

I love Palava. The Beatrice and Rita styles are the more formal.

Just seen this for £30 in H&M. Could easily dress it up with yellow platforms and some Jewellery.

If the shapes not great, you could find a really lovely belt to give a waist.

Oooh that is nice!

Boopear · 18/06/2023 20:06

I now really really want a Palava dress and cannot justify it in any way 😩. They are GORGEOUS!

DuchessOfMuck · 18/06/2023 22:36

How about something from one hundred stars like a gorgeous kaftan or robe? Their patterns are usual in a lovely vintage style or with a far eastern feel.

Or to think outside the box, get a a Wooland dress with is made of merino wool and accessorise it to the hilt with chunky bright jewellery. Say this one and add yellow or cerise accents.

Go retro with a dress from somewhere like Little Wings or Pretty Kitty. Wear with white trainers and a simple hat to keep the sun off. Something like a straw trilby or cowboy style hat. I saw someone, probably around your age, dressed like this at a car show the other weekend and it was quite eye catching and looked so casual and cool. I was hot and uncomfortable in cropped trousers and as soon as I saw her wished I'd got my Pretty Kitty dress out of the wardrobe. :-)

MrsBingBong · 19/06/2023 09:33

These might be good: you can wear them as a dress, but they're also brilliant worn as a coat... one shape that fits and suits everyone, lots of beautiful colours and patterns. https://www.shopzuri.com/collections/all

There may be some dresses on the Joe Brown website you can work with, and can be dressed up or down.

Helloitsmeimincalifornia · 19/06/2023 09:54

Also Forever Unique.

HaddawayAndShite · 19/06/2023 09:59

I’d just go with your usual style. If that sort of thing isn’t you, you’ll just look like you’re playing dress up.

Coronationstation · 19/06/2023 11:15

If it's in a field I could go for at least knee length, but probably midi length so you're not worry about flashing your pants if it's windy! But not too long in case it's wet.
I 100% agree with @HaddawayAndShite though, just be you and wear what you feel comfortable in rather than stressing about how everyone else will be styled.
