Broderie anglaise trend

I have just ordered a white broderie shirt to try- not very expensive but pure cotton- and DH says it looks like the tablecloth his nan used. I fear he is right. It's not even polyester.

Do the black or blue ones look any less nan tablecloth ish? Bored of black though.

I bought a skirt in it, like it, but it reminds me of a nanna’s nightie

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 15:41

This is the one I bought. Sized down because it is huge. Looked ok on the website. Only broderie shirt in white | ASOS

I have some from asos and love them! Super cooling in hot weather without being exposed, I wear with light coloured denim and a bright cross body bag and it doesn't look like a tablecloth to me 😂

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 15:43

I was planning to wear it with khaki or beige cargos to toughen it up a bit and a bright bag.

If you asked his opinion then fair enough, but generally speaking men know nuffink about women's clothes.

I love a bit of broderie anglaise

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 15:47

True enough. He didn't say it in a mean way though. :) I deliberately bought a shirt style because I thought the frilly blouses might be too pretty.

I love it!

Cheztwix · 17/06/2023 16:38

It’s lovely but it doesn’t suit me at all! I don’t think everyone can wear it.

SaxSick · 17/06/2023 16:40

Love it in shirts and dresses and if I were young I would have the shorts!

Downsizeddumpling · 17/06/2023 17:10

I love it! Anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive mini dress with a bit of BA should check out New Look. It’s got poofy sleeves and sadly the sleeves didn’t fit and they didn’t have the smaller size to try.

Pigtailsandall · 17/06/2023 17:14

I got a white sleeveless one back in March and I love it, though I'm not at all into frilly/girly stuff. I'm wearing it with distressed black denim shorts and I think in the autumn with leather-look leggings

ripplingwater · 17/06/2023 17:16

I love them but I dont find them very flattering- they're always so baggy and oversized with puffy type sleeves. I wish they'd make them in that material but with a slimmer fit

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/06/2023 17:18

It's so pretty but just doesn't suit me.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 17/06/2023 17:37

I had some lovely strappy broderie cami tops from Next years ago, gave them away last year as I’m never going to be a size 8 again. Keep trying but haven’t found anything as nice since.

SocksAndTheCity · 17/06/2023 17:40

I have a very nice navy blue cotton broderie dress that I bought at TopShop in around 2007 (I think). I rarely wear it, but that's more because I don't like navy and it definitely doesn't look like a tablecloth Smile

I have this - it's gorgeous :) Not table clothy at all - just lovely and summery

lastminutewednesday · 17/06/2023 17:51

I've got a shirt. It's looks so fresh and sweet with jeans. I love it!

midsomermurderess · 17/06/2023 17:54

I think it’s rather lovely and fresh for summer. It always to be around, one way or another.

BHRK · 17/06/2023 17:58

Broderie never goes out of style in summer

FlopsiesAngrySandwich · 17/06/2023 17:58

Isn't not being polyester a positive thing?

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 18:02

Oh yes @FlopsiesAngrySandwich I can;t wear polyester. I only meant I could understand it looking like a tablecloth if it was plasticky, or like those twitchy lace curtains...

Anyway have put it on and now it's growing on me.

@littleripper that is nice. I can't wear puff sleeves though. Anything girly looks odd on me. Plain shirt styles look best.

Saw lots of it out and about in Trendy N London today. Looks great on the young. I think I'm a bit old and unless I'm clever with it it would look a bit nan-nightie

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 17/06/2023 18:11

Not keen on the top but love broderie anglaise.

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 18:12

I am old too!

I meant to say that his Nan obviously had really nice tablecloths.
