I have just ordered a white broderie shirt to try- not very expensive but pure cotton- and DH says it looks like the tablecloth his nan used. I fear he is right. It's not even polyester.

Do the black or blue ones look any less nan tablecloth ish? Bored of black though.

I got a lovely blue cotton BA shirt from New Look recently. I love that I feel a bit more covered up wearing it for work but it's still cool on a hot day.

Roselilly36 · 17/06/2023 18:24

I have always liked it, classic.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 17/06/2023 18:30

Love it! I got this from Zara recently

It's over a hundred quid even in the sale. Bloody hell.

HowardKirksConscience · 17/06/2023 18:36

Doesn’t look as much like tablecloth as gingham does! (I love gingham)

woodhill · 17/06/2023 18:38

What's

Add-to-bag material?

When it's at home?

Love BA and always try to buy some

FlopsiesAngrySandwich · 17/06/2023 18:43

CatfoodOzymandias · 17/06/2023 18:02

Oh yes @FlopsiesAngrySandwich I can;t wear polyester. I only meant I could understand it looking like a tablecloth if it was plasticky, or like those twitchy lace curtains...

Anyway have put it on and now it's growing on me.

@littleripper that is nice. I can't wear puff sleeves though. Anything girly looks odd on me. Plain shirt styles look best.

Ah, I see.
Well, it looks lovely and non-tableclothish to me.

AnnaMagnani · 17/06/2023 18:47

You asked your DH!

When I ask my DH I get comments such as 'it looks weird' and most recently 'it looks like a hospital gown'

I wore the 'hospital gown to work and got loads of compliments. I now take it that if DH doesn't like it, it's probably fashionable and flattering

sleepwhenyouaredead · 17/06/2023 19:04

@Whatthediddlyfeck
I've got that one too and I love it

Thelastofbus · 17/06/2023 19:15

I love broderie anglaise. Seeing it all in the shops reminds me of a lovely top I had from French connection about 20 years ago. A beautiful deep slate greyish purple colour. I wish I still had it, even if there is no chance I’d still fit in it!

mathanxiety · 17/06/2023 19:39

That's a lovely shirt.

Funny what men notice about their grannies.

Chattermax · 17/06/2023 20:11

I bought a lovely navy broderie Jack Wills playsuit in Vinted recently and the seller also included a broderie white short flared skirt which is lovely (if not possibly a bit short/young for my late 30s legs!). I'm not sure what top to wear with it though - any ideas?

Downsizeddumpling · 17/06/2023 20:13

@Chattermax would a white tank top be an option?

Daffodilwoman · 17/06/2023 20:26

I love BA. It’s cool and fresh looking.

Anjo2011 · 17/06/2023 20:54

Love it. Have just bought a white broderie skirt.

Downsizeddumpling · 17/06/2023 20:13

@Chattermax would a white tank top be an option?

Thanks, I'll try it and report back! Not sure if the whites will match, or even if it matters - pretty sure I've got a brand new tank top though so at least it won't be greyish

it always reminds me of a Moses basket. I do have a couple of dresses in it though.

I saw that in Zara today - it's lovely. They have several pieces.

caringcarer · 17/06/2023 22:05

When my DD was a baby she wore a lot of dresses made of it. Pretty on a baby girl.

SaxSick · 17/06/2023 22:06

babbscrabbs · 17/06/2023 22:04

I love broderie anglaise but it's too girly for my aesthetic which is quite gamine. I think I'd prefer more of a geometric cutwork vibe, a slightly tougher take. Maybe something more like this https://www.asos.com/asos-edition/asos-edition-oversized-shirt-with-geo-cutwork-in-ivory/prd/200559269

You see I think that is more like a tablecloth. Everyone sees things differently, don't they?

Nsky62 · 17/06/2023 22:59

Love broderie anglaise, not keen on white tho, I have two t shirts with broderie capped sleeves, a lilac pop over blouse , and had a coral monsoon dress with it.
And yes I has seersucker table cloths a long time ago

CuteCillian · 17/06/2023 23:15

Maybe your DH would like to join you in this trend.
