Things I can't wear

I was reading a post and someone mentioned clogs. I remembered how I can't understand how anyone wears clogs. I find the wooden rigid sole impossible to walk in.

I also can't wear sling backs. They pop off every step I take.

Obviously things like thin strappy tops with big boobs are tricky but what 'normal' things that you see other people wearing can you not wear?

Stiletto heels, I just can't balance in. Block heels for me all the way!

WLAH · 08/06/2023 21:46

Converse just too flat for me

LorraineInSpain · 08/06/2023 21:50

Any shoe that has a back. I can only do slingbacks, sandals and mules. Funnily enough, I’m fine with boots (but that doesn’t help in summer).

Leggings - I have really thin legs for my size so if I can get them to fit round my waist and stomach there’s so much spare material around the legs that I look like Nora Batty.

Thisisbollocksmark · 08/06/2023 21:53

I can't wear jeans. I mean, physically I can but they feel so restrictive I can't stand them. It's probably been six or seven years since I wore any.

stingypeasant · 08/06/2023 21:54

@LorraineInSpain how do you stop the sling from coming off your heel! In a regular shoe, the back stands up all by itself but a sling is just a strap. When I step, my heel rises and the strap pops off. If I tighten the strap it might stay on for a couple if steps but then will pop off. And tightening the straps just hurts. I've wondered if I have small non bulbous heels or some deformity that means the strap has nothing to hook on to

Flip flops, I can't walk in them with sliding out of them.

Precipice · 08/06/2023 21:56

There are a lot of women's sandals I can't understand how anyone wears - the ones with the sole about 5mm thick. Almost no cushioning from the ground! I don't understand high heels either.

SaveMeFromForearms · 08/06/2023 21:56

Doc Martens. They look great on other people.

I wear them, feel like my feet are encased in cement, and look like Max Wall.

SocksAndTheCity · 08/06/2023 21:56

Acrylic knitwear and fleece. Polyester generally - my skin is going clammy just thinking about it.

LorraineInSpain · 08/06/2023 21:57

@stingypeasant I have large bumps on the back of my heels (why I can’t wear shoes with backs) so I think that holds the strap on! That’s probably not very helpful for you though.

nancy75 · 08/06/2023 21:57

Round neck t shirts (and a lot of round neck tops) I feel like I’m being strangled (plus I look like I have a huge mono boob)

lindyloo57 · 08/06/2023 21:58

I'm inverted triangle shape, and can't wear anything oversized on the top half without looking big, I'm only 5ft2 size 10 /12, I only feel good in fitted things, I do wear a wide leg trouser, but I still love my skinnie jeans then struggle with which tops to wear,

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 08/06/2023 21:59

Denim jeans. They are tight around my thighs then gaping at the waist. I look huge in them. Stretchy soft material type jeans suit me much better. Also: shirt dresses due to my apple shape, jackets that stop at the waist as I have a long torso.

littleripper · 08/06/2023 22:03

Wrap anything. Tops, dresses, skirts, cardigans. It all gapes and hangs open and blergh!

SophiaElise · 08/06/2023 23:49

Stilettos and strapless tops/dresses.

rhiannon1967 · 09/06/2023 00:04

Ankle boots!

Every step I take they hit me in the shin at the front and then whack me in the back of the leg, over and over. How does anybody walk comfortably in them?

I've had some success with the very soft 'sock boots' that are soft and tight to your ankles.

But most ankle boots I try on are just the most uncomfortable thing ever!

Same here. I have really nice, neat, normal width feet - size 37 or 37.5 yet Doc Marten's do exactly what you've described. (As well as being really painful)

NatashaDancing · 09/06/2023 00:16

Toe post sandals - not that I've ever tried. They give me the heebie jeebies just looking at them.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 09/06/2023 00:27

Any boots that don't have laces. I have cankles that mean I can't get them on, which is a shame as I love biker boots.
Wool makes me itch, in fact I feel itchy just thinking about wearing wool.
Any block colour in summer as I get sweat patches. I found that out the hard way, wearing a brand new blue tshirt in a pub garden one year. Underarm, underboob and stomach sweat is not a good look 😖

TheWildOnesRunningWithTheDogs · 09/06/2023 00:32

@NatashaDancing Yes! So so so horrible. My feet hurt just thinking about them.

Also off-the-shoulder tops and dresses. How do you manage not to spend the whole day pulling them up? Particularly on those loose smock dresses. On the other hand, my flat chest loves a crew neck t-shirt with horizontal stripes.

scoobydoo1971 · 09/06/2023 00:38

Polyester and other man-made fabrics make me feel like I am in a sauna. Very pretty to look at, but wearing them is the human equivalent of shrink wrap. I hate heels as have brittle bones affecting feet. I also hate buttons and zips as I have hand disabilities. If it cannot be pulled over my head, it is not coming near me. I also hate floaty chiffon fabric and silk as they are murder to iron, and keep crinkle free. I hate ironing and find it impossible to do with poorly hands. Also despise jeans and trousers that land on the hip. Low rise is the fashion term I believe. Constantly feel the urge to pull them up.

SquatBetty · 09/06/2023 01:37

Real wool next to my skin - just all prickly and uncomfortable

Skinny jeans - I have short legs with fat thighs and wide calves. They just look like chunky parsnips, plus I don't like the restrictive feeling of the fabric on them

Stiletto heels - used to be able to wear them, but now I just wobble about on them like a just born foal trying to stand up and walk for the first time

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 09/06/2023 01:40

Cropped trousers of any kind. My cankles render everything unwearable.

Yes to this. Polo necks, round necks, slash necks I can't do
Feel like they're choking me and look like a pair of walking boobs

FindingTheFox · 09/06/2023 02:40

Polyester (makes me sweat)
Brogues (massive feet compared to my height so I'd look like I was wearing my DHs shoes)
Converse (rub my little toes)
High heels (can't walk)
Backless shoes (feet fall straight out)
Clogs (too rigid)
Thin/hard soled sandals (hurt!)
