Things I can't wear

stingypeasant · 08/06/2023 21:43

I was reading a post and someone mentioned clogs. I remembered how I can't understand how anyone wears clogs. I find the wooden rigid sole impossible to walk in.

I also can't wear sling backs. They pop off every step I take.

Obviously things like thin strappy tops with big boobs are tricky but what 'normal' things that you see other people wearing can you not wear?

I can't bear anything with buttons up the front, like shirts and blouses. I feel like I'm wearing a straitjacket, even if they're not tight. I don't mind cardigans, but they are stretchy and also I can leave them open if I want.

I hate belts. Not only do they make a feature of my huge middle, they never stay where they should (probably because of said huge middle😂) I also hate them on jeans or trousers due to faff of opening and closing for purposes of toilet use.

WhisperingAutistic · 09/06/2023 22:07

Jeans - They are so uncomfortable. Someone on here once called them 'hard pants' which is so true.

Underwire bras - I generally wear a Molke or a normal none underwire bra if I want a bit more shape

Shoes - I really struggle with most shoes. I currently wear a walking sandal every day, unless it's raining and I wear wellies. I dread the cold season where I have to enclose my feet.

Anything with a fixed waistband

Skirts - I prefer dresses so there is no waistband

Socks - Hate all socks

Sleeveless - I prefer to cover my fat arms

keyboardkat · 09/06/2023 22:14

Can't/won't wear anything tucked in. Same for close fitting dresses/tops/jeans etc. I am not overweight but not toned and trim either, and I feel like a trussed up chicken with the bad bits emphasised. I like to hide behind looser fitting stuff. Elastic waist trousers like some palazzos and some chinos are a godsend to me. Comfort is everything. If I feel comfortable I look it.

AllOfThemWitches · 09/06/2023 22:24

Fitted long sleeved shirts , ugh.

High heels - I broke my mole when I was 12, and it's never been strong enough.

Delicate footwear - size 9 feet. Even if I can get shoes to fit, they look ridiculous.

Skinny jeans/trousers - massive calf muscles, skinny bottoms just get stuck.

Low waisted anything.I have a very long back, the distance from my crotch to waist is really long,

Cropped anything - again, long back. Cropped jumpers are like a wooly bra on me.

Flip flops/thong sandals, too uncomfortable between the toes, hard to keep on

I’m sorry, you broke your what?!

hermioneee · 09/06/2023 22:37

Converse. It's not so much the thin soles; it's how hard and thin they are so you get no support at all whilst also not letting your feet bend normally. Give me support or barefoot soles, not flappy feet.

RampantIvy · 09/06/2023 22:55

Converse. I need a thicker, more flexible sole.
Most loafers. I have slim heels and they are like flip flops on me.
Low cut tops. Unlike most mumsnetters I am not ample of chest.
Low rise jeans. So uncomfortable, and I am always hitching them up. Being a pear shape they cut in at the widest part of me.
Heels of any kind - thank you osteoarthritis.
Beige
Sludgy colours
Neon colours

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 10/06/2023 00:02

High heels
Completely flat shoes
Toe posts
High necks
Anything with an irritating label in the back of the neck (cut them all out)
Wool next to my skin
Non-stretchy waistbands
Anything cream, orange, yellow, tomato red
Jumpsuits

Bigminnie1 · 10/06/2023 12:46

Anything waisted- eg dresses with a belt, tops tucked in etc. I am extremely short waisted with long legs and look like a fat milkmaid in anything with a waist and about two stone heavier. Longer length everything for me!
Also can't wear heels or narrow shoes . Feet are too wide and hurt too much to wear heels.

I can't wear jeans. I mean, physically I can but they feel so restrictive I can't stand them. It's probably been six or seven years since I wore any.

This was me until I discovered Hush Agnes Jeans

RosesAndHellebores · 10/06/2023 12:53

Converse
Flip flops
Any shoe that needs "breaking in"
Pure wool next to my skin (itches)
Puff sleeves (I have wide shoulders)
Anything that shows bra straps

If you would like to ones with lyocell are softer and cooler

continentallentil · 10/06/2023 13:27

Converse, any shoe without arch support for any length of time

High heels or stilettos. Medium chunky is ok.

Anything tight around my neck, I think I must have been strangled in a previous life.

The many many things I can’t wear now are to do with being fat (also see fat and short) but the above has always been true.

PuppyMonkey · 10/06/2023 13:34

I am on a never ending mission most summers to find a hat that suits me.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 10/06/2023 13:37

Thongs. I could never go for a thong.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/06/2023 13:44

@LeefPeeper - sorry, I broke my ankle!!!
No idea where that autocorrect came from!

Toe post sandals - not that I've ever tried. They give me the heebie jeebies just looking at them.

Yes! Yuk. Can’t have that post between my toes. Feels awful

Vitriolinsanity · 10/06/2023 14:52

Pleats
Denim shorts
Gym wear

Downsizeddumpling · 10/06/2023 16:02

Boxy tops. I am petite and these just do nothing for me and don’t do anything to accentuate by small waist.

evilharpy · 10/06/2023 17:28

These from Hush. I love them and it took ages to track them down when I bought mine last year, but they fall off my feet, it's apparently impossible to keep them on even if I tighten the buckles and I can't walk more than a few steps before having to stop and shove my feet back in them. They really need to go on Vinted.

And I mean ENORMOUS Grin

I think it's because they show where your legs start (at the crotch) so if you are heavy and short of leg the shorts just highlight it. Sometimes a shortish skirt is more flattering as you can create the illusion of longer legs

bohovibe · 10/06/2023 18:39

I hate anything shirred, it irritates me.
Polyester makes me feel I'm in a sauna.
High neck anything due to ample buxom.

TheCyclingGorilla · 10/06/2023 18:42

Too many things these days. Small bust, big hips, protruding tummy, thick wrists and ankles, fussy feet and big head.

My wardrobe is very limited, put it that way.

thenightsky · 10/06/2023 18:49

Toe post sandals hurt like hell. How anyone ever wears them is beyond me. I'm jealous of you Haviana wearing cool people.

Anything that comes near my throat. Even a round neck t-shirt makes me feel strangled.

Waisted dresses. I'm tall so most dresses have waists that sit under my boobs.
