Things I can't wear

I was reading a post and someone mentioned clogs. I remembered how I can't understand how anyone wears clogs. I find the wooden rigid sole impossible to walk in.

I also can't wear sling backs. They pop off every step I take.

Obviously things like thin strappy tops with big boobs are tricky but what 'normal' things that you see other people wearing can you not wear?

Apparently chambray jumpsuits. I've been wanting one for ages, I imagined slouchy, with a pair of Birkenstock, very casual but kind of put together outfit for the summer. Nope, 80s reject in double denim and not in a good way.

rubydoobydoo · 09/06/2023 03:57

Halter necks. I don't have particularly big shoulders in normal clothes but halternecks make them look very weird! Maybe as I have big boobs?

Any shoes that you can't wear socks with. My sandal wearing days are over. My feet are always freezing and there were only two days in the whole of last year I didn't have to wear big fluffy socks!

Heels. I used to be OK with chunky ones but after trying the other night even those seem to be out now 😪

stingypeasant · 09/06/2023 07:00

Haha so many on here I struggle with to!!! Others...
Smocking. That elastic shirred fabric irritates my skin horrendously.
Elastic on sleeve cuffs or half way up in that peasant puff sleeves look. I generally hate the feeling of elastic.
Dungarees. Less cute insouciance. More labourer.
Off the shoulder tops again with elastic. Raising my arm a fraction results in the top pinging over my shoulders.
Similarly wearing coats and jackets on my shoulders rather than with by arms in the sleeves. How does one stop the thing falling off. I was watching a stylist on YouTube talk about how she doesn't have a problem but then I noticed she has a very strange way of moving. Her arms are clamped to her sides and all arm movement happens from the elbow. Looks a bit like an actual Muppet. From the Muppet show. My arms move from the shoulder.

I agree about the wooden clogs. I can’t wear any flat shoes without a strap, my feet slide out. Strappy tops, I have to wear a bra. Anything too high around my neck I also feel like it’s choking me. Lacy, nylon knickers-make me itch. Give me m & s plain cotton modal ones any day.

TheOGCCL · 09/06/2023 07:46

Toe post sandals (painful)
Sandals with no back (get cramp in foot)
Dungarees and pinafores (but don't like them anyway)
Vest tops (inverted triangle and make me look so bulky)
Halter necks (need a bra and horrible shoulders)
Floral dresses (look like I'm playing dress up)
Big floral patterns in general
High waisted trousers (immediate bloat)
Tights (as above)
Denim jackets
DMs (but again don't like them anyway)
Trench coats don't look too great
Black shoes or sandals of any description (skin too pale and shorten my legs, also don't really wear black)
Polyester
100% linen

Now I see why shopping is a bit of a challenge. We should have a thread on what looks great on you.

Daffodilwoman · 09/06/2023 07:57

I can’t wear shirt dresses. I have to buy a much bigger size so that the buttons don’t gape and then they are too big on the shoulders.

weebarra · 09/06/2023 08:03

I can't wear heels. I just feel uncomfortable in them.
I've had to change what I wear since I had a double mastectomy, because when they lop your boobs off, they remove all the breast tissue and your chest ends up concave.
I didn't get reconstruction so have to be a bit careful and even with prostheses things can look a bit gappy!

Cantonet · 09/06/2023 08:05

Anything with lycra in & especially stretch jeans. I had several pairs of Nydj jeans I had to sell on. It literally makes my skin crawl. Wool is just unbearable next to my skin. I had to wear a Crimplene School dress as a teenager & it itched me madly so my Mum got it lined with cotton. But the unlined edges still itched. That & my lacy starter bra combined into itchy torment every day of my early teenage years.

GettingStuffed · 09/06/2023 08:54

Another no wool person, also anything strappy, but saying that I have a cheapo dress from Temu which has doubled shoestring straps that sit either side of my bra strap.
Short shorts even DH commented that they make my legs look old.

DelurkingAJ · 09/06/2023 08:58

No wool (I come out in little red blotches)
No ‘pretty’ lacy tops…I look ridiculous
Much prefer high waisted jeans

MintJulia · 09/06/2023 09:00

Polyester - brings me out in a rash
Low cut tops - I had surgery a couple of years ago so that's out
Slides - I just can't walk in them, they slide off and trip me up.

StarGuide · 09/06/2023 09:01

Sketchers, thongs and boob tubes

Giselletheunicorn · 09/06/2023 09:09

Flip flops. Most uncomfortable shoes ever. How do people walk comfortably with the little thong giving them a toe wedgie every step.

Also thongs, for the same reason.

Strappy tops also problematic as I am voluptuous of chest. Don't like the feeling that my tits are constantly trying to escape....

High waist jeans. I think pregnancy 9 years ago stretched out my belly button badly because I absolutely cannot tolerate anything pressing on it at all now.

NeverThatSerious · 09/06/2023 09:11

Dungarees. Any type really but dungaree dresses are probably the worst. I have a long torso, massive boobs and a big arse compared to my smaller waist, the ultimate terrible shape for dungarees. See also bodysuits, button front tea dresses and swimming costumes.

Real wool next to my skin - just all prickly and uncomfortable

Skinny jeans - I have short legs with fat thighs and wide calves. They just look like chunky parsnips, plus I don't like the restrictive feeling of the fabric on them

Stiletto heels - used to be able to wear them, but now I just wobble about on them like a just born foal trying to stand up and walk for the first time

Same on the legs and the skinnies - I once tried on a pair of mid-grey skinny jeans and it genuinely looked like I had a pair of seals for legs.

Other things - I can't wear any shoe-length trousers, I always wear ankle grazers. Ditto wrist length jackets, I always have my jacket sleeves turned up to finish just above the wrist. I like air on my ankles and wrists.

Catspyjamas17 · 09/06/2023 09:12

100% wool - not without something underneath anyway. I think it's ok when it's been treated, like machine washable wool, but a blend is better.

Toe posts - just makes in between my toes sore.

Slip on flat loafers and heeled court shoes- always seem to rub my feet to bits.

Tops/dresses I couldn't wear a bra under.

Jumpsuits with stupid fastenings, or zips at the back.

Lacey pants- nice idea but itch like hell. Pants have to be cotton.

A nightie in bed - it ends up under me in a lump or round my neck. PJs all the way.

Stockings - I could never get the hang of a suspender belt/attaching them. I suspect my legs are too long and thighs too chunky. Hold ups could be ok but only if they had a wide band at the top, otherwise, sausage legs was the effect.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/06/2023 09:13

I can't seem to get proper wrap dresses or tops to work, they always gape no matter how tight I tie them. I've some lovely 'fake wrap' dresses though which give the same effect.

High heels with no strap, my foot just pops out of them for some reason. I also can't wear mules without my feet sliding out of them, I think my stride is too long.

Sarahbumdaa · 09/06/2023 09:20

I cant wear jeans my waist is bigger than it should be compared to my hips. So if they fit my hips they are too small for my waist and if the fit my waist they are massive on my hips and thighs. Also I cant stand the denim. Bras they give me pain and heartburn so I have to wear crop tops, my boots are f cup as well but I just can't bare the pain or tightness. I can no longer wear heels which does make me sad. I need very soft fabric near my skin

Catspyjamas17 · 09/06/2023 09:20

I always have to put a safety pin in wrap dresses and shirts.

CrumpetsandJammmm · 09/06/2023 09:27

The currently ubiquitous flowery midi dresses. I am short and about half a stone overweight, I look like a plump teenager who has raided her mum’s wardrobe.

Onelifeonly · 09/06/2023 09:36

Low cut tops - too flat chested.
Bold, large patterns- I'm small build and I look like a child dressing up in my mother's clothes.
Any heels over kitten height - well I can but hate them. Luckily my life doesn't seem to require them these days.
Sandals are tricky as I have bony feet. They need to be tight or my feet slide around. I try smaller sizes but can end up with bruised toes.

Same here

Mariposista · 09/06/2023 09:42

Cardigans. My colleague looks fantastic in one, long or short. I just look like I have borrowed something from my 91 year old grandmother.

beguilingeyes · 09/06/2023 09:50

Scarves, polo-necks, high necks as I basically haven't got a neck.
I've never been able to wear flip-flops as I have high arches.
I don't know how anyone wears Converse, the soles are paper-thin. Fitflop Rallys all the way.

I would think you have the best body for a bikini! Long torso tends to look much better in bikini than short. Especially as you say you have a small waist. Abs a small waist + big boobs + big bum sounds like bikini fantastic
