Things I can't wear

stingypeasant · 08/06/2023 21:43

I was reading a post and someone mentioned clogs. I remembered how I can't understand how anyone wears clogs. I find the wooden rigid sole impossible to walk in.

I also can't wear sling backs. They pop off every step I take.

Obviously things like thin strappy tops with big boobs are tricky but what 'normal' things that you see other people wearing can you not wear?

I look SO FAT in shorts

And I mean ENORMOUS Grin

Yup, me too. All shorts. TBH I am rather fat at the moment, but even as a tall size 12 I looked ridiculously wide, as I seemed to carry every ounce of excess weight on my thighs.

Also am 5'9" and long in the body, so jumpsuits are out of the question.

BrianWankum · 10/06/2023 18:58

Hats. Hate them.

Anything white, I just look grubby immediately!

BridgetRandomfuck · 10/06/2023 19:01

I gave up wearing any sandals with a toe post/flip flops after I foolishly wore a new pair to work one day in my 20s. They literally took all the skin off between my toes, it was agony. I had big crusty scabs between my toes for a week after. Never again.

Bias cut skirts - unfortunately big in the 90s and seem to be making a bit of a come back. I am pear shaped with a small waist and the way they taper in again after draping your hips makes me look like I’m smuggling a small sofa under my skirt. Just the most unflattering garment on me, ever.

Also yes to sling back shoes. Cannot keep them on my feet for love nor money. I must have flat heel backs or something.

Hush trousers - I just can't get away with them I always look like I'm wearing pyjamas

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/06/2023 19:16

Jumpsuits. Hate the thought of not being able to get out of it quick enough and wetting myself. 🤣

Sorry, but bias cut is a way of cutting the fabric's grain diagonally; it doesn't imply a certain shape, although it does often give a slinky, draped silhouette. But you can have an a-line bias cut skirt, it doesn't have to be a tapered one (although I know the 90s style you mean)

Ah, ok - I was thinking particularly of those drapey ones, didn’t realise it was a more general term.

I’m with you on the bias cut. Makes me look like an overstuffed Chesterfield sofa (and I’m not even fat).

But they gave so many different styles. They can't all look like pjs!

Converse just too flat for me

Same here. I feel like i am slapping lumps of concrete down on the floor. I hate converse and all canvas shoes of similar make. And ballet pumps. Anything flat with thin soles make me walk like I have a foot injury.

Which ones?

CormoranStrikeIsBloodyLovely · 10/06/2023 22:19

Shirt dresses- they gape at the boobs but I always fall for them as there are so many pretty ones and then regret it.

Anything shirred across the busy - my waist is v low and my boobs are a Ecup. I look hilarious.

Those swimsuits that are cut very high- I ordered one to try on and didn’t realise it was so high cut, I have a very large c section scar after haemorrhaging and the scar was actually fully visible either side. I saw the funny side of it but it wasn’t pretty .

Heytheredeliah · 10/06/2023 22:26

Sandals I'm paranoid that my feet will snag on the ground.
Heels I'm very tall as it is don't need to look taller
Off the shoulder tops just annoying. I would keep pulling them up all day
Wrap anything -urgghh
Anything restrictive in anyway- makes me feel claustrophobic
Anything that shows cleavage. I have small boobs anyway so nothing much to show off haha

WorryMcGee · 10/06/2023 22:30

Docs. Love them so much on other people but if I put them on I look like coco the fucking clown.
Anything round my neck. Doesn’t matter what it’s made of, itches like crazy.
Sliders. Fall off my feet immediately. Even ones that say they are for narrow feet.

nebulae · 10/06/2023 22:33

Three quarter length sleeves. My arms are too long, the sleeve stops in the wrong place and makes me look and feel even more ungainly.

Roundaboot · 10/06/2023 22:33

Necklaces. I used to be able to wear any old kind of cheap shit with no issues but now absolutely anything on my neck triggers eczema. DP bought me a lovely gold necklace for Christmas thinking that wouldn't cause any issues but even that causes a breakout

Linen. I find it really itchy.

Softens with washing. I used to feel the same but I realised that after waging a few times it goes soft.

DarkDarkNight · 11/06/2023 19:24

Court shoes. I don’t understand how they stay on someone’s foot. They just slip off. I’ve tried bigger sizes with grips inside and too small a size. It must be the shape of my feet. I’m like a little girl playing dress up.

I agree with polo necks, I hate the feeling of them near my neck.

Walking/outdoor trousers and waterproofs. I just find them so uncomfortable and restrictive.

jajajajaja · 11/06/2023 21:37

Red lipstick. I can't wear that. Makes my lips look thinner and just a bit crazy

SquaresandStarlings · 12/06/2023 00:50

Wrap around dresses! I'm a 12 and have a few friends who are bigger than me but look great in them, but they have tiny waists compared to the rest of them.

Also just can't wear wool - itchy and sweaty!

I can't wear lipstick at all, especially red. It makes me look like a clown. I've tried a few times over the years and I always end up wiping it off.

Luckily it's a lot cheaper and easier to just sling on a bit of pink vaseline.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 12/06/2023 19:31

I use Benefit tints instead of lipstick. I hate lipstick, but a bit of Benetint or whatever the pink lemonade one's called makes all the difference!
