I have had one dodgy transaction. EBay cancelled the transaction and removed the item from the platform with 10 minutes of the buyer trying to purchase my top. I got a very comprehensive message of advice and reassurance from eBay as to what I should do next. I was impressed with how it was handled and wondered for the first time whether eBay’s 10 % cut is money well spent. I did have to start from scratch taking photos again to re list the item which was a bit of a nuisance but all in a good cause I guess.

😲🤯🤣 That's so outrageous I'm wondering if you're joking!

😀. Nope, it’s the truth! Apparently she’s been looking for this Boden dress for months to send to her mum in Greece. She herself is a key worker and can’t afford to pay till pay day but if I could agree to sell and hold onto it till then and arrange to send it direct that would be great. Meanwhile, while I’m sitting here with ‘wtf’expression on my face someone else offered £52 which I accepted.

Haven’t sold on eBay for ages @ilovecherries but always use buy it now.
I’ve never tried to buy in the sort of listing you’ve described as I always assumed they expected more than the staring price of the auction,

faustina · 06/06/2023 16:31

@ilovecherries - that's so bizarre. I wonder how many people fall for it?

I always do fixed price but am happy to accept offers if they aren't silly ones

SheilaWilde · 06/06/2023 19:20

ilovecherries the buyer sounds very cheeky! I've always anticipated offers to be in the region of the initial bid price. Coincidentally I've just offered on a cardigan (like the one that got away but more old) and it's been accepted. Starting bid (with one day to go and no bids) was £17, I offered £15 and it was accepted. New cardigan on the way.

I was going to put one of those bright blue or ochre linen bags in my sale basket but they’re all sold out! Had my eye on those but they were something like £99

ilovecherries · 06/06/2023 12:30

Quick eBay qu - if a seller is using auction plus best offer, does that mean that they are looking for more than the auction starting price as an offer?

In my experience, not always. People can be quite cheeky!

neveradullmoment99 · 07/06/2023 06:28

Noodle421 · 06/06/2023 15:28

Omg 😱
Are you joking ?
All of my sale transactions have been great with good reviews.
Mind you, I can’t be bothered with the auction. I see many items listed with no bids. I set a price for ‘buy it now’ that I think is fair and which I’m happy with and I don’t accept offers. Perhaps I get a bit less than I may have got at auction with the odd item but I can’t be bothered with the faff in the run up to an auction.

I find buy it now can take forever to sell. I like an auction deadline. Sometimes you get way more!

I loved that bag😥

Noeggsontoast · 07/06/2023 07:24

@Snowyowl78 you could look at linenme.com. They have a huge colour range of very similar linen bags, though a much lower price. They do have an ochre type colour too. A number of blues too, but not one quite as bright as the cobalt.

Noodle421 · 07/06/2023 08:09

@neveradullmoment99 Maybe I ought to give auction another chance. I kept having to re-list items. For some reason buy now worked much better for me. Perhaps I haven’t charged as much as I could but then i’d rather shift the item than having it sitting at home.

Snowyowl78 · 07/06/2023 10:21

Thanks @Noeggsontoast, I am really surprised they all sold out!

dudsville · 07/06/2023 11:29

What toast items are we all wearing today? Yesterday I wore a blue and white ikat wrap dress. Today I'm back in the orange cord skirt - I love it and it's prefect for the warm/cool weather and makes me very happy.

I've tried on the ticking stripe trousers again with a few tops and think they'll work nicely with tops in a similar hue but contrasting pattern, so far I've tried 3 - a plaid, a check and a leafe based floral. Obviously I could wear them with a plain tee, but I'd like the option to wear them for work, and mine is casual, but the patterned tops make it look like I didn't just roll out of bed. The blue/grey poplin trousers remain an easy yes though, as we have discussed on these threads before, poplin does come with its own set of acoustics which I'm not overly keen on. I'm keeping both aside in case they go in the sale but it's hard as I'm itching to wear them!

Countmeout · 07/06/2023 11:58

The only item I’m wearing purchased from Toast @dudsville is a pair of Birkenstock in the sale. Sorry to let the side down, wearing Zara green linen barrel legged trousers and a white Zara linen shirt.

marshamarshmallow · 07/06/2023 12:20

Have not bought any Toast for years, but had been coveting the wrap front jumpsuit, as had others as it sold out before I had a chance to buy it. Then it was restocked and I started to think about it again.

By chance, I was out and saw a woman wearing it. Was really taken aback by how chic it looked. I complimented her, we had a chat and I asked about sizing. She told me she's usually a 10 but had bought an 8. I was surprised by this as we looked the same size and my Toast size used to be 6, so decided to stick with that. Having read through the last Toast thread, started to worry it would be too small.

It arrived earlier and it's too big. Not only that, it makes me look larger than I am. I think if the leg was shaped in the same way as the sleeve, it would have been far better. But, this post isn't even to moan about that, it's about that I looked like an extra from Prisoner Cell Block H in it. Am so disappointed.

Am not sure whether to persevere and try the size smaller or just give up.

😔

Saurus72 · 07/06/2023 13:51

@Noeggsontoast Thanks v much for the website suggestion - I checked the Toast site yesterday for the linen bag too. I loved it but £99 is a lot. The linenme ones look beautiful and soooo much less eye watering cost-wise.

dudsville · 07/06/2023 14:10

@marshamarshmallow , were you and the woman you saw wearing it differently shaped I perhaps? It's disappointing though. A dress i coveted from years ago, my one that got away, came up in the sale this year and it was not a good fit.

Snowyowl78 · 07/06/2023 14:19

@marshamarshmallow perhaps you should try the smaller size? I reckon this will go into the sale as it’s been around a while now, but lots of sizes have sold out.

it’s quite big and exaggerated in general, with voluminous sleeves and legs, but cinching you in at the waist. I love it!

Noodle421 · 07/06/2023 14:19

@marshamarshmallow if you love it that much I’d give it another go and try the smaller size. It’s amazing how a little tweak of the sizing can make such a different look to the overall look. At least then you can feel you’ve explored all the options.

Noodle421 · 07/06/2023 14:21

@dudsville I’m wearing my blue Oxford shirt with Ashley jeans.

Noeggsontoast · 07/06/2023 14:27

@Saurus72 you're welcome. Such a great variety of colours.

@dudsville today I'm wearing a Toast silk/cotton pyjama style shirt and Ashley jeans. Love those shirts - so easy to wear. Good for all those Teams meetings.

@marshamarshmallow I'd give it another try. I also sometimes find there is variation in the same size. I once bought a pair of trousers in an 8, returned for a 6, then returned for an 8. The second paid of size 8 was right. What a faff though.

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2023 14:42

Today I am wearing cotton linen Alixes in a rust colour from a few years ago (not last year’s but similar colour), with the navy wool cropped cardi with the balloon sleeves from a couple of years ago that reviewed badly but I love. Wearing them with a long white shirt from Cos and some white Saucony trainers also purchased from Cos recently, which I love.
Just received a delivery of the space check linen trousers, the indigo stripe trousers and the navy ikat jacket. I have the cream version of the jacket and have worn it so much that even though the navy is even more eye wateringly expensive, I thought I could justify it. But as the pattern is large, and there are pockets on the front, the pattern placement looks a bit messy. I’ll upload a photo and you can tell me what you think. Haven’t tried the trousers yet, they’ll have to wait until later.

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2023 14:44

Here’s the jacket. I’m quite fussy about pattern placement, and this looks a bit messy to me around the right hand pocket (left in the photo, but my right side). Would appreciate your thoughts.

Gonegrey31 · 07/06/2023 15:04

I think that looks absolutely wonderful ! Stunning in fact . Nothing in the pattern jumps out at me as being wrong .

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2023 15:49

Thanks @Gonegrey31 . I will think about it a bit more.

I’ve now tried on the trousers and I’m not convinced by either. I think the space check ones are the same shape as the linen balloon ones that everyone here loves. Maybe I am too short (5’2”), as I need to turn them up a few times. But I’m not even sure that is the problem. I think it is the pleats on the front. The indigo stripe ones fit beautifully on the waist and bum (in a size 6!! I was not even a 6 in old Toast sizing!), but again, the pleats make them look kind of clown like on me I think. Boo.
