I also like that dress @Countmeout . Two of the things i said i don't need are dresses and pjs. Will i listen? I have the orange brown purple version of those check pjs from the last sale, they're perfect and now i want the blue green version. The dress would be a lovely house dress @Stravaig !

yes a few tempting things this time. I’ve bought the Molloy scarf as I got the other colour way for my birthday and have worn it so much.
Im not anticipating wanting anything in the sale but who knows?
I love that blouse too @AFingerofFudge .
And this dress https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-new-collection/products/trapeze-check-linen-dropped-waist-dress-acid-green

This is gorgeous!

dudsville · 08/06/2023 17:10

What do you all think of tees under summer dresses like that trapeze check or the pond dress? What i mean is can that combi be worn whilst maintaining the level of smartness the dress has on its own? I love these but i would want at least short sleeves and wonder if it takes the dress down a notch.

Noodle421 · 08/06/2023 17:22

@dudsville I saw one of the Toast staff wearing a light weight informal jacket ( one which sold out very quickly - a sort of parchment colour) with one of the sleeveless dresses and it looked stunning paired together. This is the layering I’d choose. Informal but still smart. I’d look rubbish with a T underneath. My chest and upper arms would bulge against the fabric and distort the look. I guess it depends on your body shape. I suit a slim fit jacket because it accentuates my neat shoulders while hiding my upper arms which are not so neat 😂

neveradullmoment99 · 08/06/2023 17:23

@dudsville I would only wear with a tee under it. I think it looks great like that!

The older I get the less shit I give about my arms, they aren’t going to kill anyone to see them. But I do empathise with what you are saying too - I lost an unplanned stone after my hip replacement recently as I was so unwell for weeks, and I think it’s all come off my arms as they are suddenly looking wrinkled and crepey. If I want to uplevel a sleeveless dress I tend to layer over rather than under unless it’s a very obvious pinafore style. So a toast wrap jacket to create shape, or a looser linen shirt or shacket if I want it to be relaxed.

Ha, sorry. Noodle said it while I was thinking about it!

@dudsville ive been wearing a tshirt under both the jersey v neck dress and the same jumpsuit and it works really well (I think!)

dudsville · 08/06/2023 18:20

I could have said, I'm very happy with my body, my arms are fine, normal arms, but i feel nude in things without sleeves. Also it rarely gets too hot here for me so i would feel the chill. I'm not overly prudish, i even once spent a weekend in a nudist colony in a hot country with a wonderful natural hot spring that had naturally high levels of lithium - i was so chilled as a result! But I'm not a strappy top person.

I think the light jacket idea is great!

I went to the Marylebone and the Mayfair stores today. I was trying to work out what was missing from the shop floor (ie what is going to be in the sale): there were definitely no panel cotton linen dresses in either colour way as I wanted to try it on. Neither were the colour block poplin skirt or dress there (I tried the dress previously and rather liked it). The original Bryan tie neck dress wasn’t there and neither was the boat necked garment dyed linen dress (the bright orange one).

Both of the very high priced silk dresses WERE in store (in both colour ways) so I doubt they are going into the sale.

I made a few purchases: the mauve sea kelp cotton dress which is stunning and I bought in a 10 (I am a 12) - the 12 would have been huge (didn’t even try it as the 10 fitted). I also bought the gathered garment dyed linen dress in sapphire in a small: hangs beautifully and a vibrant colour. I bought a dress I would never have purchased from the online photo - the garment dyed linen tunic dress in midnight (https://www.toa.st/products/garment-dyed-linen-tunic-dress-midnight): I had to size down to a XS so it definitely comes up very big. I trekked to Mayfair to rule out the small which was definitely more shapeless on me. It is very flattering and the perfect dress to throw on to go to the shops or with a lovely toast shirt left unbuttoned over it. Interestingly Toast sizes me as a medium in this which would have looked like a sack. I also bought a pair of Alix trousers in slate - hoping they will be a work horse item in cooler weather.

The sales assistant said they made very few of the lovely linen enormous bags that were in fenugreek and the bright blue. I was lucky enough to get a blue one a month ago and use it all of the time.

ToastCosILoveIt · 08/06/2023 18:36

I meant to add, none of the Ikat stuff was there either.

ToastCosILoveIt · 08/06/2023 18:41

Neither was the cotton linen twill workwear shirt in either colour in store. The beautiful cream embroidered skirt and matching top WERE in store: I love them but I would spill food all over them as soon as I put them on. The poplin tank was also in store so that is unlikely to be a sale item.

Snowyowl78 · 08/06/2023 18:53

@ToastCosILoveIt i have that linen dress and agree it is big, I’ve ended up with the Small and normally I would have a medium in anything else. It’s longer than I’d like so might get someone to take it up a few inches but I think it’s a great casual, wear anywhere dress.

Noeggsontoast · 08/06/2023 19:00

@ToastCosILoveIt a great sleuthing report and a lovely little haul. Interesting the Ikat pieces weren't there - they've not been available very long at all.

Snowyowl78 · 08/06/2023 19:07

Peak toast. They’ve just sent out an email with a lady playing catch with a potato

Countmeout · 08/06/2023 19:13

I thought it was a stone @Snowyowl78

Stoic123 · 08/06/2023 19:15

A stone but love the idea of a potato.

I'm missed the log carrying in silk dresses, pocket mushrooms etc. hope there is a bit more of that in AW collection.

ScottishMouse · 08/06/2023 19:26

On the Ikat items, Toast Edinburgh told me recently that they never got it in at all. So not sure if that means it will go into sale, or there was just a blip in getting it to some stores.
I was in the Edinburgh store today doing some returns. They had quite a few of the new things, but not all. The garment dyed denim trousers in pale blue are a beautiful colour, but completely impractical for me. The Selma dress in both colours was also fab.
The rails were quite bare of earlier in the season stuff, though I can’t remember specific things that were or weren’t there (bad sleuthing!).

Stravaig · 08/06/2023 19:28

If you kiss a stone potato it turns into a peacock ...

Snowyowl78 · 08/06/2023 19:33

@Countmeout i was just being silly :) although it does look like a potato on first glance!

Stoic123 · 08/06/2023 19:33

Thanks for the intel @ToastCosILoveIt

I've been buying and selling a lot of preloved Toast recently so not quite raring to go as much as usual on the sales and new collection front.

Of the new stuff: PJs are gorgeous (but not sure I'm ready to spend £160 on them), embroidered dress would be on list if hadn't bought last year's Slate one and, whilst Bryns are gorgeous, I'm not allowed any more Toast viscose dresses until I start wearing the ones I have.

Countmeout · 08/06/2023 19:35

Well if I hadn’t just taken out my contacts I might have thought it was a potato @Snowyowl78 . My one superpower is being able to see absolutely clearly an inch from the page when I do 😳

mizu · 08/06/2023 20:06

@Stoic123 I've sold a couple of TOAST dresses on eBay recently- and a couple of swimming costumes.

The dresses were just slightly too tight around the bust and this year, the midi dress just doesn't seem to look good on me anymore, or maybe it never did.

I'm on the look out for some longer length dresses.

Runtotheshop · 08/06/2023 20:10

SheilaWilde · 05/06/2023 21:56

Oh can I tag along? I've never got to the sale in time and still covet a mustard Aran cardigan from a few years ago. I intermittently search on eBay but I've never seen it. It's the cardigan of my dreams ...

Have you ever contacted them to see if theu have any archive stock? They sometimes do and will sell it to you for the sale price.
