Went out in my new frock last night thought I looked rather okay.

I've lost loads of weight recently and feel like heading towards a New Normal Me.

But then scrolling through S&B I find I'm ubiquitous Sad

Aibu to think I should change my style ALREADY?

Also bonus points, for guess my size, age, favourite animal Wink

Such a lovely dress. Like the bag. Denim jacket looks good on you. The trainers don’t go at all though. Far too chunky and utility

erikbloodaxe · 04/06/2023 17:55

Size 16. 54

Why would you post this and put yourself through a potential mauling?

For attention, to be told she looks younger than she is, to be told how great she looks. It seems an attention seeking thread.

And what's wrong with that? Loosing weight is difficult, she's put together an outfit she feels great in. Why not seek some positive attention? I probably am biased though since I'm a massive attention seeker in general.

Thank goodness the S&B "experts" have kicked her to the ground and stamped on her then.

Wexone · 04/06/2023 17:59

Change the trainers to a white slim plimsoll or converse or even better white birkenstocks. roll up the sleeves a bit on the denim jacket then your good to go

ohyouknowwhatshername · 04/06/2023 18:05

I think you're 43, size 12 - 14, your favourite animal is a meerkat but you have a cat called Barbara.
You look lovely x

The dress is Anthropoligie - apologies if I've confused anyone by calling it "this year's Zara dress"

Usually a Zara dress goes viral but Anthropoligie might pip Zara this year with this dress.

Not you
The person who said it looks good on the Zara website

Yes I know you weren't addressing me- I just meant I might have caused confusion by calling it "this year's Zara dress"

I don't know who you just described but I want to be friends with them!

TheChosenTwo · 04/06/2023 18:11

Well I think you look lovely and comfortable! No idea on age/size, I’d wear it and i’m 37 and a size 14 but wouldn’t wear the jacket because I find them restrictive!! I am not stylish though and tend to just wear what fits and is comfortable so perhaps my words don’t mean anything 😂

Daffodilmorning · 04/06/2023 18:12

You look lovely OP. I’m not guessing your age or dress size, because neither matter. What’s important is that you went out and had a nice time whilst feeling confident in your outfit.

And yes, lots of people wear dresses and trainers because they are comfortable and look nice… they wouldn’t be popular otherwise 🤷‍♀️

Fleebags · 04/06/2023 18:13

If it’s the cliche uniform you are after, this is not really it though. Wrong trainers both style and colour and jacket too bulky. But you look just fine!

NotQuiteUsual · 04/06/2023 17:55

It's a lovely outfit. It's a very popular look for a reason. It's flattering, comfortable and on trend in the mainstream.

Not everyone wants to look on trend though, I mean this is the sort of look you and your kids will see photos of in 10/20 years and will laugh at how dated it is. Some people try to avoid major trends, others embrace it. Neither is right or wrong.

I don't think floral dresses and denim jackets will ever be laughable. The look won't be on trend forever but I don't think we'll ever actually laugh at it like those thigh high 90s socks or 80s shoulder pads.

Sourdoughhunter · 04/06/2023 18:15

Size 14 age 48. I don't like the style of trainers with the dress, white pumps would have been fine.

Cornchip · 04/06/2023 18:21

The thing is with fashion, you really shouldn’t care what others think about you wear.

My style is very “niche” and I know 90% of users on here would hate it, but I like it so I don’t give a fuck. It wasn’t all that long ago I went out for drinks in a playsuit that gave off heavy Stevie Nicks vibes, fishnets and docs as an example. I highly doubt you’d like it but you wouldn’t see me changing my style/wardrobe over that.

If you like it, wear it, and be confident in that.

However, in terms of the outfit. The dress is nice, I’d have all the focus on the dress personally. Lose the jacket and swap the shoes out for converse or a chunky sandal if that is the look you want to go for.

Watchthedoormat · 04/06/2023 18:22

52, size 14. Favourite animal is a llama.
I really like the dress.
Not sure the jacket is quite the fit but it's fine.
Would prefer white trainers.
I think the biggest mistake is the bag- it dates the outfit somehow.

You look nice though OP and congratulations on your weight-loss.

Usually a Zara dress goes viral but Anthropoligie might pip Zara this year with this dress.

The Zara dress was relatively inexpensive, easily half the price, if not less than this Anthropologie dress. For that reason alone, I don't think anywhere near the same volume of women who bought that Zara dress will be buy this dress.

Even so, I can this dress ticking a lot of boxes for many on here. Interestingly, the current Anthropologie MD used to be at Boden, so am not surprised to see a marked change in who their merchandise is aimed at.

Fingers crossed

OP the dress is GORGEOUS...
LINK PLEASE!

electriclight · 04/06/2023 18:24

Keep wearing whatever you want and enjoy your weight loss and feeling great.

But some styles stick around and end up a bit too popular, so fashion types - who were probably wearing the style at some point themselves - start scoffing a bit, looking for or recommending alternatives. It always happens with any 'aesthetic' but it's good that it does really otherwise nothing would ever change.

FWIW I think you are 50, size 12-14 and like dogs.

The dress is pretty but jacket, bag and trainers are not best accessories imo. But then, who cares what other people think?

PrimalOwl10 · 04/06/2023 18:25

The trainners don't go you need converse or plimsole style to pull off the look your going for. I would say the dress looks abit heavy maybe team it with a belt to break it up and give you a waistline. Get rid of the denim jacket, it you want a jacket maybe a light cardigan and a small bag and you'll be good to go.

grayhairdontcare · 04/06/2023 18:25

53 and a size 14

Georgyporky · 04/06/2023 18:25

I thought white trainers were worn with dresses nowadays?

I'm old-fashioned, I'd wear proper shoes or sandals with that lovely dress
