Went out in my new frock last night thought I looked rather okay.

I've lost loads of weight recently and feel like heading towards a New Normal Me.

But then scrolling through S&B I find I'm ubiquitous Sad

Aibu to think I should change my style ALREADY?

Also bonus points, for guess my size, age, favourite animal Wink

It's a lovely dress. I would have styled differently (shoes/ denim jacket/ bag in that order) but if you feel good that's all that matters. I suppose you're mid-fifties, size 14/16, 🐩

I thought white trainers were worn with dresses nowadays?

I'm old-fashioned, I'd wear proper shoes or sandals with that lovely dress

Stan Smith's or similar, white tennis shoes.

3AndStopping · 04/06/2023 18:28

OP what you’re wearing is fine, sure people can nit pick about what they may/may not have style it with but it’s a nice dress, a nice jacket and some nice trainers much like what many, many other women are wearing currently. Remember you think about what you look like much more than other people do/notice. (They’re thinking about themselves too!)

rubydoobydoo · 04/06/2023 18:29

Age 42, size 16, squirrel!

The dress and jacket look lovely - but a white handbag and trainers would look better!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/06/2023 18:30

It's fine other than the clunky trainers.

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 18:30

I like the outfit it's lovely. Don't listen to S&B most outfits look terribly frumpy.

Drosselmeyer · 04/06/2023 18:30

I read OP's post as more of a "fuck you all, I'll wear what I like" than a request for tips, so the posts giving advice on how to improve the outfit are funny.

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 18:31

Wearing trainers with dresses is in fashion you don't have to wear sandals.

PegasusReturns · 04/06/2023 18:31

The dress is nice but trainers for 40- somethings are a challenge.

“Pumps” (veja/converse/arrigato’s) are definitely the preserve of the middle aged mums.

the teens/20-somethings all wear their outfits with the bulky white trainers of my youth (fila/Nike air/max /Balenciaga if you’re loaded/can get knock offs)

when middle aged mum wears the bulky trainer she always end up looking like she’s wearing them to manage her hip problems

Dymaxion · 04/06/2023 18:32

Well done on your weight loss, you look lovely in that photo.

I think you are a size 14, mid forties, and your favourite animal is a slow loris Smile

Oh Georgy white trainers and dresses were a thing, they're no longer a thing. Like you I'd always wear proper shoes or sandals with a dress like that !

They are a thing or why would 1000s and 1000s of women wear them?

Sensibletrousers · 04/06/2023 18:34

If you want to be seen as stylish rather than ubiquitous, you just need to view your outfits as you would an equation or a recipe, and be a bit braver.

For example, you chose a blue denim jacket, a mid blue and white floral dress, white / grey trainers and a grey cross body bag. Nothing wrong with each of those ingredients… but there is nothing interesting about them either, nothing brave or requiring flare.

If you had taken just one element - let’s say the bag for this example - and chose a bright fuschia or neon yellow instead, it would have elevated the whole look! Or if the dress had a more adventurous or unusual pattern… or if you wore bright pink lipstick and nails…

It really doesn’t take much to be less boring / ubiquitous and it doesn’t have to take you out of your comfort zone!

Just be braver and make one ingredient spicy!! 😉

They haven't caught up?

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 18:36

She's not asking for advice I think she's saying fuck off S&B good for you OP.

On who's authority? Yours?

Poblano · 04/06/2023 18:37

I think you're size 14/16, late 40s and your favourite animal is dog.

I still wear midi dresses, trainers and denim jacket and don't really care if it isn't fashionable any more, it's comfortable and practical. I'm also a big fan of long sleeved breton tops with rolled chinos and birkies. I am a middle aged cliche.

nahwhale · 04/06/2023 18:38

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 18:37

It's not a bad thing to have not caught up. I know im well behind. But it's cliché.

Oh definitely not asking for tips. Doesn't mean opinions can't be expressed - otherwise what would be the point of starting a thread?

JusthereforXmas · 04/06/2023 18:41

Why would anyone wear those trainers with that outfit?

Switch it out for sandals or at least matching colour trainers.

The rest of the outfit is just standard summer wear. Unless your going to wear a sallopettes and a thick knit turtleneck etc... then of course your going to wear summer clothes in summer and look somewhat like everyone else as its worn for convenience not 'edginess'.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 04/06/2023 18:42

I absolute love your outfit, especially the bag! You look amazing, rock it x

honeylulu · 04/06/2023 18:42

I like the dress! And the jacket. I'm not a fan of white or light coloured trainers or even trainers at all in hot weather. Always makes me think ooh yuck sweaty feet in the summer. Get your feet out into some nice sandals or structured flip flops. Age early 40s. Size 14? Favourite animal - seal? (Also my favourite.)

NatashaDancing · 04/06/2023 18:43

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 18:34

They are a thing or why would 1000s and 1000s of women wear them?

Of course they are a "thing" but you can't have missed the 100s of posts saying they are a "dated thing".

I was being sarcastic actually with reference to the "dresses and trainers are dated threads. As a combination they aren't a "thing" I ever wore.

qwertykeyboards · 04/06/2023 18:44

It’s just the shoes
