Went out in my new frock last night thought I looked rather okay.

I've lost loads of weight recently and feel like heading towards a New Normal Me.

But then scrolling through S&B I find I'm ubiquitous Sad

Aibu to think I should change my style ALREADY?

Also bonus points, for guess my size, age, favourite animal Wink

kindly, it’s not styled/accessorised the best. it would look so much better without the jacket or bag, and with sandals.

As it is, it looks like too much material - the dress hem reaches the bulky trainers; the buttons are done all the way up; the denim jacket is an unnecessary layer. It looks a bit too hot for the current weather (but it is over 20 degrees near me!)

Really?!!!

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 04/06/2023 17:41

It's what's in fashion and on trend. There's really nothing wrong with dressing for the era/life stage you're living in if you like the look.

lovescats3 · 04/06/2023 17:41

Think you look lovely, where is the bag from? Lovely shade of green

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/06/2023 17:42

Age 50, size 14, likes cats. I think you look lovely, and I'm guessing the jacket is a bit long because you have lost weight since buying it. The whole point of this look is that you don't have to lovingly curate every bit of it.

I8toys · 04/06/2023 17:42

Sometimes these dresses swamp you and just add bulk. The jacket is too bulky on top of that. Would ditch the bag and add sandals.

Early 50's, 5ft 6, 14, Cockerpoo

Moveoverdarlin · 04/06/2023 17:43

It’s swamping you. Need a shorter denim jacket, daintier, plain white trainers and ditch the wintery Mulberry bag.

size 14, age 55.

Hellenabe · 04/06/2023 17:43

Op, id get white trainers, fold up the sleeves of the jacket, plain white bag.

CuteCillian · 04/06/2023 17:46

I'm loving the bag, phone case and nails. My DD would look those before dress/jacket although would judge trainers as important.
I am guessing you are not looking to teens to judge your look though?
I'm guessing size 14-16, aged 56 and quite short (5"2') as the dress would be much shorter on me, I like the length on you.
I am trying to avoid florals now as they have become a bit cliched but I still like the look.

AnonyMenOhPee · 04/06/2023 17:46

the trainers and jacket make it look a bit frumpy (sorry). White tennis shoes or sandals and a less boxy jacket would look a lot better

SoupDragon · 04/06/2023 17:47

That’s why it doesn’t work.

At no point did the OP say she thought it didn't work. She felt good about herself!

Blossomandbee · 04/06/2023 17:47

You look nice! I think it's the trainers that let you down, as others have said you need less bulky and plain white. Or sandals.
I would also go for a more fitted jacket and a different bag. It's a lovely bag but I don't think the colour goes with all the blue. I would maybe go for a bright red for contrast.
Hard to judge age without seeing your face, I'm guessing 40's. Size 14ish and favourite animal a leopard (is your phone case leopard print Grin)

Highdaysandholidays1 · 04/06/2023 17:47

There's nothing wrong with a uniform. For ages it was dark skinnies and a navy and white Breton top. In summer, everyone wore 3/4 cargos for a long long time. I think you look nice but not startlingly on trend, that's more fashionable than most of the people I see when I go out (I'm a bit nosy). I live in a student city and even the students all copy each other in their looks. Hardly anyone is unique, and hardly anyone is extremely fashionable. This is not a problem- clothes are for living, you are living, there's no issue here.

themonkeysnuts · 04/06/2023 17:47

does it really matter to anyone else

leatherchaps · 04/06/2023 17:47

Why would you post this and put yourself through a potential mauling?

Bearpawk · 04/06/2023 17:48

Yeah I think it needs different trainers or sandals and a shorter jacket.

TheDancingFroglet · 04/06/2023 17:49

I have noticed people on MN, rarely in real life, seem to love getting themselves existentially worked up about frocks Grin

Gotta admit tho they always take off, so one might even suspect they're planted for page views.

Flakey99 · 04/06/2023 17:49

Why would you care what a bunch of internet randoms think about your clothing choices?

They’d probably crucify my choices but I have no fucks to give. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well done on the weight loss and the new You. You’re grand as you are. 👌

nahwhale · 04/06/2023 17:49

NatashaDancing · 04/06/2023 17:36

Keep the bag, ditch denim jacket and trainers of any colour or shape.

Yes the trainers with shoes look doesn't work. Never has.

nahwhale · 04/06/2023 17:50

Trainers with dress that should have said

BranchGold · 04/06/2023 17:50

Congratulations on the weight loss op! I think it can be very hard when you’ve lost significant weight, to dress for a new body shape.
The proportions aren’t great with all the items you’ve put together, it looks like you’re trying to drown your figure out and hoping not to draw any attention to yourself whatsoever. That’s a valid choice by the way, but obviously people who aren’t into visual/style at all dont tend to post pictures of themselves on style and beauty boards for critique.

are you someone who generally feels the cold? The dress has long sleeves, I’m curious what made you feel for another body layer over the top?

Setyoufree · 04/06/2023 17:51

Does it make you feel good? In which case, who cares?? Not that I'm exactly a fashion icon since I still have skinny jeans, Breton tops, cropped trousers, the whole lot 😁

Chocolatesandroses · 04/06/2023 17:51

I love what you’re wearing but no to the trainers . Maybe some nice sandals or white converse or white pumps/ plimsolls kind of thing .

nahwhale · 04/06/2023 17:52

NatashaDancing · 04/06/2023 17:25

It is the same dress. I like the dress. I don't like the jacket or trainers. The bag is ok and probably would be fine if the jacket and trainers weren't there.

Yes the dress there is baggy and oversized on the model. So it doesn't need extra bulk

Kitkatandcoffee · 04/06/2023 17:52

Well done you on your weight loss. You look fantastic. Too hell with what anybody else thinks.

NotQuiteUsual · 04/06/2023 17:55

It's a lovely outfit. It's a very popular look for a reason. It's flattering, comfortable and on trend in the mainstream.

Not everyone wants to look on trend though, I mean this is the sort of look you and your kids will see photos of in 10/20 years and will laugh at how dated it is. Some people try to avoid major trends, others embrace it. Neither is right or wrong.
