How Do The Royals Look So Polished?

KnackeredSheep · 06/05/2023 19:02

Watching the Coronation today and couldn’t help but notice that all the royals just look so well polished.

Camilla looked glowing and healthy, but pictures of her from her first marriage, she looked like a fairly average lady of her age.

Same with Kate. She has always had good bone structure, nice hair etc, but since she married into the Royal family she just looks great.

I eat well, exercise, have a good skin care routine, drink lots of water - all the things you’d think would help but I can’t imagine ever looking as well polished as any royal.

What is their secret? Is it as simple as hair and make up done for them, or am I missing something?

Drinking the blood of new born babies? I'm joking! Money and doing bugger all squared their entire life probably helps!

Kickingupmerrybehaviour · 06/05/2023 22:32

When you go to a weddding you get your hair and makeup professionally done, you put a lot of thought into outfit and accessories and usually people come out looking polished. This is their everyday except they don’t even do the thinking themselves. It’s all done for them.

doadeer · 06/05/2023 22:36

I used to know one of the princesses and in real life she looked very normal

There are amazing facial and make up products now, you can be made to glow

AzureBlue99 · 06/05/2023 22:43

Kate only glows when she smiles. Her smile changes everything. When she is in repose she looks normal and unremarkable.

Tinpanalley · 06/05/2023 22:56

I’m sure Camilla and Sophie are on HRT.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 06/05/2023 23:13

I thought Charles looked very pale on TV - then when I saw photos afterwards I wondered if his ruddy complexion had been toned down with make-up for the event? (Slightly off-topic sorry)

unsync · 06/05/2023 23:18

Money and staff.

StrugglingWeight · 06/05/2023 23:27

Imagine everyday is like your wedding day, but your wedding photos are broadcast to millions. You can see all the little mistakes in your appearance but have repeat opportunities to fix them

They have a team of people who know their hair and makeup, know what looks good and how to style it

They have money for treatments etc. They have clothes altered to fit their bodies. They have low stress lifestyles

Its also probably decade's of experience in looking polished, from each generation. Like if I suddenly became rich I wouldn't know where to start, whilst if I married into the royal family I imagine someone would be able to help me

StrugglingWeight · 06/05/2023 23:29

Kate hasn't always looked as polished. But she's had literally 1000s of opportunities to perfect her appearance

I doubt he'd ever use makeup.
I think he was very nervous about today, possibly not slept great.

He got such a hard time days after loosing his mum with the grummy moment at St James Palace when really the table was too small, then the leaky pen a few days later in Belfast.

StrugglingWeight · 06/05/2023 23:35

Also there's a reasonable chance the photos have smoothing filters or are edited

Not for the number of photos that are taken, it would look beyond odd if the were old and wrinkly on one paper and all ironed out on another.

CarpetSlipper · 06/05/2023 23:40

Their clothes are tailored to fit, shitloads of money and staff. Very little stress. Kate has also had work on her face - she used to look older than her age, now she looks her age. Definitely botox and some fillers.

I think most paparazzi photos have smoothing filters on these days

Although taking a look actually a lot of close ups most of them look quite standard, a bit tired with normal skin details etc. I don't think there anything that's abnormally polished outside of professional hair/make up and expensive clothes

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 23:48

@Sugarfree23 he was not grumpy, he was angry. There is a real difference

TheApplianceofScience · 06/05/2023 23:53

Money

I look better at knocking 60 than I did at 40, we are now debt free and mortgage free, we have a very decent amount in the bank, and a pension income of £50, 000 pre tax, we also have the following help.

A dog walker

An ironing lady

A cleaner

A gardener

A guy who massages both of us once a month.

DH plays golf regularly

I go to the gym.

I get my nails done every three weeks.

We eat meat from the farm shop these days.

We also have a very expensive hairdresser.

Why wouldn’t we look better ?

We are debt free and stress free

Like I said……………MONEY

Just for balance we give a large amount to food banks and the RNLI and cancer research.

But again we are in a position to do this due to fluidity of cash.

Sugarfree23 · 06/05/2023 23:55

@AskMeMore
I'll cut him some slack, on an already stressful day the table was too small. And he called it a 'ruddy pen' others would have used something requiring a beeb

TheApplianceofScience · 06/05/2023 23:55

And what I have just posted is small beer by comparison.

So yes MONEY.

AskMeMore · 07/05/2023 00:01

@Sugarfree23 If I behaved like that at work I would be out of work. But then I am low paid so different rules apply to the very rich.

aloris · 07/05/2023 00:56

I haven't read the full thread yet (sorry) but I do think that expensive clothing does a lot. The quality of the fabric and the way it's cut and the way it's constructed are different. There is more of a focus on it looking perfect. Just think about how much nicer you look in frocks you try on at a fancy department store.

Alterations also make a big difference. Shortly after William and Kate got married, she and another (anonymous) woman wore a nice dress to a wedding and Kate looked so much better, although the other woman was also pretty. And I read an article which discussed how Kate's dress had clearly been altered to fit her perfectly, whereas the other woman was wearing it the way it had come from the designer. And alterations can be very expensive, depending on how you do them. If you can tailor most things to suit you, then you too would look a lot more "put together" most of the time.

And I think access to stylists makes a big difference too. Sophie and Kate are both nice-looking women but they wear such elegant hairdos for many of these events. Before Kate married into the family, her outfits and her whole look were not as effective as what she wears now. Even her engagement dress looks simple compared to the way she dresses now.

Swansandcustard · 07/05/2023 00:59

😂😂😂😂😂

Sugarfree23 · 07/05/2023 01:00

@AskMeMore if you'd lost you mum less than a week earlier I'd be questioning why you were even at work.

I'm not exactly a Royalist but cut the guy some slack. Most people would call in sick, special leave, cancel any public events in the days after their mum died.

Sailingaround · 07/05/2023 01:02

Begsthequestion · 06/05/2023 19:42

A few million? Charles has got at least 1,800 million pounds 'in the bank'.

Your post sounds like you view them somewhat like a middle class family that's done quite well for themselves...

In reality their lifestyle is so beyond any of our life experiences that there's no point even pondering those trivial questions about the nanny taking away stress etc.

Iirc they (as in we, really) employ someone to put toothpaste on Charles' toothbrush every morning. Like he's an actual toddler. That's power for you. Every single whim is catered for, as it has been for all his family, for generations, every single day, from the moment they wake up to the moment they fall asleep.

The only time they're in danger of encountering any cortisol is those rare occasions the press dare to get slightly uppity after one of them is found (again) to be a liar, or corrupt, or just really, really good mates with high profile sex offender. And even then they can relax knowing that for them, mud doesn't stick.

That's the key to looking as 'polished' as the royal family - be a royal.

This 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

This is baffling.

Is the king royalty or a regular worker? He can't have it both ways. The royal family are privileged to an extreme extent due to being deemed to be 'royalty'. To justify their royal status, they must behave in a way that is different to the working masses.

Showing his face straight and doing his 'royal duty' after his mother died is part of the deal.

pigalow27 · 07/05/2023 01:26

I actually think Samantha Cameron looks more polished than anyone in the royal family. She looks amazingly young for her age and a mum of 4. She wore a dress from her own company, Cefinn which was under £400 but looked lovely.
