How Do The Royals Look So Polished?

KnackeredSheep · 06/05/2023 19:02

Watching the Coronation today and couldn’t help but notice that all the royals just look so well polished.

Camilla looked glowing and healthy, but pictures of her from her first marriage, she looked like a fairly average lady of her age.

Same with Kate. She has always had good bone structure, nice hair etc, but since she married into the Royal family she just looks great.

I eat well, exercise, have a good skin care routine, drink lots of water - all the things you’d think would help but I can’t imagine ever looking as well polished as any royal.

What is their secret? Is it as simple as hair and make up done for them, or am I missing something?

It's like anybody with a public image to uphold, they have money to spend on their appearance and they use it on make up artists, hairdressers and stylists. They also have time to pamper themselves. They don't have to slap on a layer of fake tan between serving up the chicken nuggets and getting the packed lunches ready for tomorrow.

Even if you look at something like Loose Women or This Morning - on screen the women all have great makeup and hair. See them outside the studios without all that assistant, they look like normal people.

It's the combination of money+time+access to experts.

Thinking back to before she married William I'd say that Kate has a very strict diet, not as in she's on a diet, but probably eating like some of us would if we were on a diet. Yes, she was naturally slender as a young woman, but she's thinner than she was then and manages to stay that way which wouldn't happen without iron will when it comes to what she eats. She also wears a shit tonne of makeup for big public affairs. Not a criticism, she's entitled to wear as much or as little as she's comfortable with. I'd guess that if you're in the public eye like that you'd feel that you'd have to look best at all times.

And of course, all of the stuff that loads of money brings as said by loads of people already. Possible "tweekments" for many of them too.

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 21:16

i wonder if Kate, Beatrice and Victoria Beckham use the same nutritionist. They were all normal sized in their twenties and then shrunk to 30% of their bodyweight and have maintained it.

wildfirewonder · 06/05/2023 21:19

This thread is hilarious! How come billionaires with loads of time and staff look so good? Grin

Caramac555 · 06/05/2023 21:24

It's hilarious and sad.

I feel like increasingly we will see how cheap diet, non existent dentistry, reduced NHS services for anything unsightly but cosmetic, and stress, will segregate us into "she looks poor" and "she must have money".

feelingfree17 · 06/05/2023 21:42

They literally have the best of absolutely everything at their disposal. No money worries would be a biggie too.

Just thinking about Kate today. All her children will have been fed and looked after, all dressed and ready to step out. Her outfit will have been laid out for her, and all hair and make up done professionally. Apart from being constantly in the public eye, their stress must be very low level.

I’d love a few million in the bank! But what are they spending money on? What are they buying? Is is certain products, paying people to do hair and make up or is it just stress free life knowing that the nanny will take the kids to school and they haven’t got to put up with annoying colleagues for 7 hours a day?!

All of that!

Very probably, All of the above

I couldn't live like that, at that level of scrutiny and criticism. There is not enough money on this earth that could make up for the loss of my freedom to be a slob and for people to appreciate my contribution other than how I look.

GellerYeller · 06/05/2023 21:51

I remember the start of lockdown when it was either one of the GMTV ladies or Holly, saying they were doing their own hair and makeup at work and not feeling so polished. Just shows the difference help can make.
I saw a clip of Diana’s wedding last week and noticed how minimal her hair and makeup was for the big day versus at big events later in life. Fashions change. Although she was so young and gorgeous she didn’t need it but now she’d be ‘Adele’d’ up to the max and every pore and follicle groomed wouldn’t she!

Birchtrees · 06/05/2023 21:57

I thought Sophie looked haggard today actually. Over made up with ridiculous false eyelashes. I thought both Kate and Camilla also looked far too heavily caked in make up .

I thought Kate looked a bit haggard in some pics and I agree, caked in make up.

Mumsgirls · 06/05/2023 22:00

I had an appointment at a private hospital once. A premiere league young footballer was in the waiting room. Only in sports leisure gear, but he somehow just screamed money. Like you say polish. Could not put my finger on why he just looked rich. Had noticed before they called his name .

Mumsgirls · 06/05/2023 22:03

Fergie looked like a potato, Not all gorgeous

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 19:10

There were pap picture of Sophie leaving her hairdressers a few weeks ago looking less-than-polished. She looked great today though. It's money and effort (well, the effort to turn up to appointments, I'm sure the thinking side of it is all delegated).

I don't think she looked unpolished, she's just 58 and looks her age.

I think the point is that they only look polished when they are wearing custom created clothing that fits them perfectly, have their hair and makeup done, are driven to and from places etc

LadyKenya · 06/05/2023 19:14

Also there is a lot to be said for wearing clothes that fit well. So tailor made clothes could make someone look a million dollars.

That's what I was going to say. Having clothes tailored to suit.
It crossed my mind after a similar thread on how good Charlotte looked at the funeral.
Many people would buy a kids coat but they'd expect them to get a winter maybe two out of it.
The Royals need it to look spot on for one day, so would have had it altered to fit her if necessary.

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 06/05/2023 22:10

😂They are multi-millionaires, with every possible professional doctor, dentist, beauty specialist, hairdresser, dietician, chef, etc., etc., at their beck and call.

EmmatheStageRat · 06/05/2023 22:11

Honestly, I think Kate looks a good five years older than her chronological age as she is only 41 (probably not a popular view here).

SpringNotSprung · 06/05/2023 22:17

I would look 100% better everyday with no hair and no makeup if someone would just bring me a pot of tea and two digestives first thing every morning, ran my bath, laid out my clothes, drove me.to work, cooked my dinner, folded down my bed, leaving a glass of mineral water at the bedside, etc, etc, etc.

I thought she wasn't even invited!
Where was she potato-esque?

ConstanceReid · 06/05/2023 22:18

Kate always looks very polished but I thought she looked very tired today, she had bags under her eyes which is unusual for her. She wears a tonne of makeup, which is partly why she looks great in photos. Being tall, slim and blessed with good hair helps too.

I really liked Camilla's makeup today, yes it was heavy, but it needed to be under all those lights and for the myriad photos.

The rest of them, I would say, look pretty ordinary and not 'polished'.

IfICouldIStillWouldNot · 06/05/2023 22:22

Not living in the real world with real world stresses or chores.

Robinni · 06/05/2023 22:24

MONEY!!!

Greenkitchen · 06/05/2023 22:26

I was just thinking this. The photos of Kate before marriage show an attractive, homely, but normal looking young woman..

Nowadays she glows!! I’d bloody love to know who does her Botox and skin peels 😂

I think she has time for self care that someone else a) arranges and b) does for her!! She isn’t doing her own body scrubs or trying to shave half a leg whilst getting annoyed that there’s no hot water and the kids are banging down the bathroom door shouting that they need yet another snack 😆

Lack of graft = ethereal and unharried appearance.

P.s. I think Carol and Pippa borrowed Kate’s make up and hair lady today. As they usual look quite blah, but today also looked super glowy!!

Motorina · 06/05/2023 22:27

Also, healthcare. I have chronic backpain. The NHS, of course, doesn't want to know. Not a slipped disc, take two ibuprofen, bye.

If I had access to daily physio/massage/whatever, I bet I'd look younger and glowier simply because I wouldn't be in chronic pain.

I suspect a lot of us are carrying a chronic health condition or two which isn't serious enough for the NHS to deal with (or, if it is, is managed suboptimally) but which is impacting on our appearance. Take that away and you'd immediately look better.
