Friend's 50th birthday. DH doesn't like one because it's too grannyish and MIL says that one is better (but then, she is a granny!)
Which is better? I prefer one over the other, but my fashion sense is questionable

Black jeans and probably a dark blue (or black?) cardigan with it

Boots, both knee high and ankle boots, tights midi dress also a winner, without tights in the summer with ankle boots with small heel.. That could be your regular uniform instead of the black bootcut jeans.

OP- you look to have a very long body compared to your legs. To help you look more balanced I would suggest trying high- waisted jeans/trousers with a wide leg and get them too long for you and wear with a wedge heel to elongate your legs.

I like the middle three. Is anyone really going to notice the cut of the jeans? They might not be the absolute best but the whole impression, with the red, green or sequinned top is really nice.
Really. They are nice tops. OP, if you are comfortable in them, then any of those would fit in and look really good.

You have such a lovely figure and I really hope you can find something you're pleased with.

For what it's worth, my tuppence worth is that the purple sequins are the best of a bad job so far. I'd like it much better in black though, or maybe cream or silver. Blouse One from your OP looks better than I expected, but for work, not a party. The green one looks as if it could work, but not with those jeans.

I don't think the jeans are quite working for you - they look too low slung imo. And I really don't think the boots and jeans work together. They look clumpy and a bit clownish together, sorry.

Better jeans, sparkles and some heeled boots and you'll be stunning!

Nice figure OP but those jeans are not doing you any favors. I like the green top and it would be great with black trousers and gold necklace and bracelet and a pair of high heels.

Hey OP, your figure looks very similar to mine, proportionally long back and short legs, pear shape. My top tips for dressing it would be 1) High waisted bottoms and 2) ALWAYS tuck tops in.

I have enjoyed this thread as am also 42 and also feel similarly flummoxed by what suits me. I would have worn the first two tops especially in my 30s when juggling small children - it is only now that I'm feeling a bit more confident and want to find what suits me (while never really having known this- whenever I find something it's accident rather than design!).

I like the purple sequins. I also like the docs. I think the trousers are fine but I think everyone else on this thread probably knows their style onions better than I do!!

I have spent a lot of money on some clothes to try that I've liked in this thread...

I hope you have a fab time when you get to the party!

If you are set on wearing the black trousers can you get a pair of boots with a bit of a heel to wear? The flat DMs are fine for day time but not a night out. A small or medium block heel would lengthen your lower half and bring more elegance. You have a great figure!

OP you don't have a leg problem or a tummy problem or a different sizes top and bottom problem- you have a self- esteem problem. You have a very good figure and good hair from what we can see from the photos

Goodness knows what or who has contributed to that- if it was a person , frankly I'd like to give them a piece of my mind.

I hope you enjoy the party but in the long term I hope you find your confidence.

I would suggest a nice black or white top with a bright coloured blazer and a chunky necklace. You can wear jeans and heals or just nice shoes with it

My choice would be the red. It seems to work really well with your skin tone and hair colour. I have to admit I do like the first shirt on you - not for a night out, but for casual day wear.

I'm 42 and I like the black one with the sleeves from Roman.
The top of my arms are a bit wobbly now so I like sleeves but you have to be careful. A floaty sleeve can add 40 years 😂

I don't know why you would think just because someone is 82 they'd want to wear them. They are awful.
