Friend's 50th birthday. DH doesn't like one because it's too grannyish and MIL says that one is better (but then, she is a granny!)
Which is better? I prefer one over the other, but my fashion sense is questionable

Black jeans and probably a dark blue (or black?) cardigan with it

I try never to buy anything from China since I heard about what is happening to the Uighurs there - forced lanour, forced sterilisation of women and their children taken away. My little protest won't make a difference but I'm trying my hardest not to support the current regime. And not buying things made in China is really difficult as our country is so reliant on their products...

I too avoid consciously buying Made in China products - though I am highly conscious of the almost unavoidable provenance of the device I’m currently typing on.

Clothes are the voluntary purchase I can most control, so I try. It’s infuriating when, having done all I can to check this before ordering, an item arrives with an unwelcome label. But I certainly would not be bulk buying cheap clothes, in the full knowledge that they are made there.

Few ideas. Tops that can be dressed up a bit more with a necklace etc. Good price range too

Thank you for this. I actually bought the pink top on top left, albeit in ivory, and am really pleased with it. I can see it being a really useful wardrobe staple. I also suprised myself by buying this - definitely outside my comfort zone - and really love it.

@OldGrannyish - thank you for starting this!

Thank you, also, to all the people who talked me through care for silk. It's convinced me it's not for me!

I've ordered a silk cami top, knickers and two pillow covers from Lilysilk @LadyEloise1
Very happy with my purchases and will order again in the future

whattheheck2 · 26/04/2023 15:05

Neither. I hate paisley!

tiredhadenough · 26/04/2023 16:51

My friend wore a t shirt and blazer the other week and looked fab!

I prefer the first one. Long-sleeve patterned blouse

unicornjewels · 27/04/2023 14:11

The green one.

mewkins · 27/04/2023 14:11

I like the red and the green one.

ladygindiva · 27/04/2023 14:17

I agree neither. Check out monsoon , they have a sale on at the moment and do lovely tops, but a bit more dressy. This one is also in blues which you seem to like? I found it in about 10 seconds.

I think it would work better with black jeans than your choices

ladygindiva · 27/04/2023 14:19

Just seen your update. Rather like the sparkly purply blue one

ladygindiva · 27/04/2023 14:19

Wear a blazer instead of a cardy. Marks and Spencer have some lovely ones.

Hiddenmyname · 27/04/2023 14:21

I can't really help as I'm a real trendy fashion follower and what I like you wouldn't.

However you have an amazing figure - why are you hiding it? The fact are you a size 8-10 says your belly is nothing to hide. You could go for a tighter top and some high blue waisted jeans, that would hide any (tiny) belly. The green top could maybe be tucked into some high waisted denims.

Hiddenmyname · 27/04/2023 14:22

Sorry just noticed you are 12-14 on the bottom but still I stand buy you having a gorgeous figure!

Strawberrydelight78 · 27/04/2023 14:45

I'm sorry but bootcut jeans don't do anything for your figure. Have you any other trousers you could wear? I like the green top and the purple sparkly one but more for an older person. I'm 44 the only one I would wear is the top you posted in your OP but for casual wear not for a special occasion.

What's your budget? I think you need to think about a whole outfit and not just bunging on a top with black jeans and a cardi.

OldGrannyish · 27/04/2023 14:58

Op have you never been to a party?
I got married 16 years ago and I went to my bf's wedding about 2 years later but was bridesmaid so in both cases dress was sorted. Since then, no, I haven't been to a party.

Really? Do you not have friends?

What about my other questions? Do you not feel like you deserve to look nice in beautiful clothes? Everyone does. It doesn't have to be the latest fashion if that's not your thing but there are loads of beautiful classic clothes out there that would make you feel amazing.

EllaPaella · 27/04/2023 15:16

All those tops would look better tucked into high waisted trousers.

souranddoughy · 27/04/2023 15:16

If you want to go low-key / buy something that you can get more use of, I'd go for some black trousers instead of jeans, and a silk shirt, ie

EllaPaella · 27/04/2023 15:25

You have a cracking figure OP. I think the clothes you have chosen are a very 'safe' option, totally inoffensive but a tad dull, sorry. Out of all the tops the red looks best imo.
