Which top?

Friend's 50th birthday. DH doesn't like one because it's too grannyish and MIL says that one is better (but then, she is a granny!)
Which is better? I prefer one over the other, but my fashion sense is questionable

Black jeans and probably a dark blue (or black?) cardigan with it

How old are you OP? Right one is marginally better for anyone over 60 but both scream frumpy to me, sorry. *I'm 51 and wear bright colours with a 50s vibe, Lucy and Yak dungarees and loud prints.

timesaretight · 24/04/2023 14:07

Short sleeves

Nr6 · 24/04/2023 16:17

I would wear them to the office. Maybe. Not to a party...

Blacksheepcat · 24/04/2023 16:18

Have you found something to wear yet OP?
On a slightly different note… you say you have an issue with sweating so I just wondered if you have ever considered having Botox injections? It can completely stop the sweating for 6 months at a time I believe.

It was just from a Google search and says it's from Mango but I doubt it's current unfortunately

here

Thank you

Has anyone on this thread ordered from LilySilk ?
If so, were you happy with your purchase ?

The second one os a bit better. The first one is work wear. Neither with black jeans as the top is navy.

This^^

i would wear the 2nd one for work with blue jeans. Not for a party.

@sofamarathon didn't go out in my 30's

Have you lots of children? Are they very dependent?
You're only 42 - reclaim yourself!
I'm 42 too and a wobbly size 12 with a belly and terrible skin. But I love clothes. Midi dresses, nice New Balance trainers, cargo trousers, mom jeans, jumpsuits, alllll the leopard print, wrap dresses, ankle grazer trousers, loafers - I feel comfy and smart in all of these.
Try Vinted for experimenting with new looks at a very low price, you can always re-sell if not your thing.

Any of these?

They are school receptionist looking tops.

IndysMamaRex · 24/04/2023 23:33

Not a huge fan of either. However the second one could be nice with a decent pair of jeans. Boots or wedges. Instead of a cardigan go for a nice casual blazer in a lighter colour, make that the statement piece

I try never to buy anything from China since I heard about what is happening to the Uighurs there - forced lanour, forced sterilisation of women and their children taken away. My little protest won't make a difference but I'm trying my hardest not to support the current regime. And not buying things made in China is really difficult as our country is so reliant on their products...

LadyEloise1 · 25/04/2023 11:13

I understand @Snippysocks and admire you for your stance.

nopuppiesallowed · 25/04/2023 11:53

Thank you, @LadyEloise1 . Perhaps this very small stone will gather some moss?

I will be 58 in August and would not wear any of those tops, not in the house, for work or to go out in.

I wore this dress with biker boots and leather jacket on Thursday when we went out for my husbands birthday.

That dress is lovely. Where did you buy it please?

Silentbarking · 25/04/2023 14:44

Do you prefer these kind of tops OP? If so it’s best to look up tunic tops.

Silentbarking · 25/04/2023 14:51

Or this? Batwing for sweat problem: https://www.very.co.uk/quiz-sequin-batwing-top-grey/1600819886.prd

I think it’s All Saints. They always have a couple of lovely dresses, but very expensive.

Farr85 · 25/04/2023 15:30

I quite like the one on the right. Looks comfy and will look nice with black jeans

You see it's all individual - dungarees have become almost a uniform for a certain group of older women.

Morestrangerthings · 26/04/2023 04:51

A single colour is almost always classier

I agree, in tops and pants it is. I think a stripe can look out if the mix of colours is right.

crazyaboutcats · 26/04/2023 05:19

OldGrannyish · 23/04/2023 09:18

I'm quite tempted to go for one of these and hope it gets here in time. Lily silk or This one I guess that will be the most versatile, although no idea how you choose which colour - stick to black? Or is navy more wearable?

This is lovely OP. I find navy more flattering and think it goes perfectly well with black

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/04/2023 08:18

Another option for nice tops which are cotton or silk is preloved. I have a great local boutique who sources preloved too and I’ve got lovely vintage silk tops and a printed 80s floral Next top. Then you see how quality has deteriorated over the years!
