I'm going to Chanel tomorrow...

I posted recently about my intention to buy a white bag. I was considering one from Launer, but in truth what I'd really love is another Chanel 😬

I've been going round the houses having conversations with myself in my head ("it's a white bag, it'll get dirty, you'd be mad to spend Chanel money on a white bag, yes I know but I just love Chanel more than any other, look at the joy I've got from my 2.55, well yes but...") 😀

I've got the opportunity to go to a Chanel store tomorrow. My SA says she has the mini 2.55 in white available to show me, & a few others too. I'm not sure whether the mini would be too small - I think I have the medium 2.55 & I do like that size. I need to see it in the flesh. And possibly spend a lot of money

If anyone wants to talk Chanel please do so! I posted on here when I bought my 2.55 & people were lovely, right from me having the first notion of getting one to posting a photo of my purchase when I unboxed it at home a couple of weeks later!

Does anyone have a mini? How do they come up for size? I've watched some reviews which say that because they're single flaps they actually feel almost as capacious as a standard double flap.

@highfidelity @Snowite it's probably not the done thing on here to namecheck people onto a new/empty thread but I really appreciated the knowledge & advice both of you offered on my other white handbag thread especially re: Chanel so thought I'd mention you here 🙂

@AprillaCourt Hiya...was wondering about your last thread only yesterday, actually 😁 As you may remember I'm a white bag coward, but always happy for you to tag me. I was quite a collector few years ago: clothes, jewellery and shoes too!

Niftythrifter · 17/04/2023 16:46

Ooh have a lovely time! I’ve bought something from a Chanel boutique before and it is really very nice in terms of the experience! Have fun!

AprillaCourt · 17/04/2023 16:50

@Snowite Lovely to be remembered 🙂 👋🏻

I've always been a jewellery girl, very boring on the footwear front though 😀

AprillaCourt · 17/04/2023 16:54

@Niftythrifter It's a delightful experience isn't it? I've bought a couple of scarves & a purse along with my 2.55, I've bought in Chanel Bond St as well as Harrods & both Selfridges in Manchester & on Oxford St.

I will admit though that when I bought my 2.55 I was rather worried about the price & that took away from the experience a bit. Now I know how much joy it's brought me & am comfortable to spend that I'm hoping that a second bag purchase - should it happen - might be less angst-ridden & more enjoyable 🙂

Good luck, OP!

Chanel medium boy is my dream ‘you’ve made it’ handbag 😁 I have told myself I am only allowed to buy it after a significant promotion (making partner) and alas, that is a few years away.

Looking forward to the unboxing!

Usernamen · 17/04/2023 17:03

Also, can you pls link to your other thread / share a photo here?

AprillaCourt · 17/04/2023 17:41

@Usernamen There might not be an unboxing, although I can feel myself weakening 😀

Previous thread: I'm thinking of buying a white leather handbag... http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/4778881-im-thinking-of-buying-a-white-leather-handbag

There's a link on there but it's the Launer Elizabeth in pure white.

I'm not a fan of the Boy or the 19 in truth. I love the 2.55, quite like the Classic. I'm quite boring a purist! Though anything Chanel is fantastic.

I hope you get your bag one day - I'll share in your joy 🙂

My 2.55 medium and my classic flaps in small, medium and jumbo honestly, don't get used much. All that internal flappage just makes them impractical. My minis get used a bit when I want a small cross body as they hold a surprising amount considering their size.
Things have become a little better since I have pretty much git rid of a purse and just go digital using my phone but sunglasses rarely fit in any of the flaps.

Tealsofa · 17/04/2023 23:26

I'm not into handbags, and I am not bashing (I love candles....)

But... what is it about a handbag that makes it worth that many £££?
I'm really not bashing, but I just don't get it

Bluebellwood129 · 18/04/2023 09:43

I find minis have plenty of space to hold whatever I need but I'm also a great lover of cross bodys, so maybe I just travel light!

AprillaCourt · 18/04/2023 09:55

@mybeautifuloak Thanks for that. I travel very light - literally just have my small Chanel purse, Launer key holder, lip balm & phone in mine! Leighton Denny nail file in the zipped pocket & debit card in my Tube wallet in the Mona Lisa & I'm good to go 😀

@Tealsofa It's a combination of quality, style, & buying into the brand. The design of the 2.55 in particular is wonderful if you know something of Gabrielle Chanel's life - the red lining that is the colour of her uniform at the convent orphanage she was abandoned to, the chain handle resembling the chains the nuns kept their keys on, the flap pocket supposedly where she kept her love letters etc. She was evidently a tough woman & I'm not sure she'd have been easy to get on with, but she is a beguiling & impressive figure - the woman who introduced/popularised everything from the handbag with a shoulder strap to women in trousers to the little black dress to nautical stripes to jersey. Her contribution to women's fashion & her insistence that female comfort & movement came before everything (she was furious with Dior putting women back into tight waists & heels) can't be underestimated.

My closest friend of 30 years carries her life in a battered Kipling & has spent many hours sat on a seat in Chanel having no idea why I'm doing what I'm doing, & she's a massive fan of candles - I try & find her new ones all the time!

@Bluebellwood129 I travel very light too, so I'm starting to think a Mini might work for me. Thank you 🙂

Currently on the train. I've brought my insurance details with me just in case I need to specify a new item on my policy at any point today 😀

Thank you for answering in the spirit of my question

Bluebellwood129 · 18/04/2023 10:13

@AprillaCourt I think you'll fall in love instantly. I'm rather excited on your behalf! Have a wonderful day.

highfidelity · 18/04/2023 10:17

❤️

I will admit that I miss the Chanel boutiques of the late 80s, 90s and early 00 Even so, I still adore all things Chanel and will enjoy (on this thread at least), shopping vicariously through you.

Happy Chanel-ing. I shall check in later!

@Bluebellwood129 I travel very light too, so I'm starting to think a Mini might work for me. Thank you 🙂

If I were to buy a new Chanel bag, I would opt for the mini (lambskin with gold hardware) - it's a really beautiful, compact shape. It sits neatly on/against the body and holds all the essentials one needs to carry.

I also think it's the best value for money.

AprillaCourt · 18/04/2023 10:30

@Tealsofa No problems 🙂 I understand why some might find these bags odd things to want to spend money on. Tbh I feel the same about cars - no idea why people spend so much money & get so excited about lumps of metal that just depreciate in value. But if that's what makes them happy, it's all about the joy. Horses for courses!

OP posts:
AprillaCourt · 18/04/2023 10:31

Ah thanks @Bluebellwood129 I've felt the same when others have had threads like this 😊

OP posts:
AprillaCourt · 18/04/2023 10:32

Thanks @highfidelity 🙂

I'm leaning to the same way of thinking - I'll let you know once I've seen things in the leather flesh 😀

Currently in Chanel where I seem to have bought a 2.55 Mini in white & matching purse 😮

ApolloandDaphne · 18/04/2023 13:14

Ooh I can't wait to see them. My DD was obsessed with Chanel as a teen and for her 16th birthday bought a 2.55 black calfskin when we were in NY on holiday using her birthday money and a loan form her DF. The experience was magnificent. She paid back the loan diligently. That was 14 years ago and imagine it is worth a bit more now!

Lykia · 18/04/2023 14:19

@AprillaCourt how wonderful. I'm hankering after a black WoC but they have gone up so much in price this year.

Enjoy your bag and let's have a peek. Wink
