I'm going to Chanel tomorrow...

I posted recently about my intention to buy a white bag. I was considering one from Launer, but in truth what I'd really love is another Chanel 😬

I've been going round the houses having conversations with myself in my head ("it's a white bag, it'll get dirty, you'd be mad to spend Chanel money on a white bag, yes I know but I just love Chanel more than any other, look at the joy I've got from my 2.55, well yes but...") 😀

I've got the opportunity to go to a Chanel store tomorrow. My SA says she has the mini 2.55 in white available to show me, & a few others too. I'm not sure whether the mini would be too small - I think I have the medium 2.55 & I do like that size. I need to see it in the flesh. And possibly spend a lot of money

If anyone wants to talk Chanel please do so! I posted on here when I bought my 2.55 & people were lovely, right from me having the first notion of getting one to posting a photo of my purchase when I unboxed it at home a couple of weeks later!

Does anyone have a mini? How do they come up for size? I've watched some reviews which say that because they're single flaps they actually feel almost as capacious as a standard double flap.

@ApolloandDaphne It will be worth about 4 times what she paid possibly! What a great decision she made, I can imagine the joy she's got out of it over the years 🙂

They really do last & last, Chanel advise sending them in to be cleaned & refurbed every 15 years, & they'll repair any bag they can authenticate (that's why it's good to buy from them directly as they have a record of your account & every purchase & can easily see provenance.)

@Lykia The thing is they never come down in price, they only go up. When I paid £6050 for my 2.55 in 2021 I was aghast at how much it had increased in price in recent years & wished I'd bought one before. But I learned today that it would now cost £9500, so I'm glad I got it when I did!

I'm not trying to persuade anyone to spend money, but if anyone is considering one I'd get it sooner rather than later. It might be expensive now but it's only going to get worse 😬

She paid about $2000 which was around £1000 because of the good exchange rate. I think it is worth maybe 6x that now. Good financial decision I think!

I’ve been hankering after a Chanel for decades, would you say the quality is still good OP? I hope you find something you love, either the white one or a different option.

AprillaCourt · 18/04/2023 17:59

@ApolloandDaphne £1k seems an incredulous price given what they cost these days!

It depends on the size, but my medium black aged calfskin 2.55 costs £9500 today 🫢

The Maxi now doesn't have an advertised price, it's POA 😬

Hi @AdoraBell 👋🏻

I know a lot of people say the quality has lessened but I think the standard is still excellent. I have one vintage Chanel bag that is 30 years old & I'd say the quality is easily the same as my 2 year old bag, & possibly even not quite as good. Others may have different opinions though!

I bought the Mini 2.55 in white & a complementary purse, I'll unbox & upload a photo later - I'm just on the train home right now!

Thanks for that info, hope you enjoy your new purchase 😁

schmalex · 18/04/2023 18:42

Ooh you're making me want to go shopping @AprillaCourt! Please share some photos of your new purchases.

I have a black 2.55 reissue from 2012 and a more recent purple boy. I would love a WOC or a lovely tweedy mini. Waiting to get promoted first though. I do love the whole experience of shopping at Chanel - I bought my boy in Bond St after much deliberation. The 2.55 was a gift from my husband but he's under strict instructions to bring me with him if he wants to buy another one as I love the shopping experience and don't want to miss out.

Did you phone your SC before going in? Will they give you a heads up on what they have in?

EachandEveryone · 18/04/2023 18:50

I just cant get beyond baby animal skin despite how gorgeous they are.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 18/04/2023 18:58

How did I only find this thread now?! But I would have only badgered you for photos earlier 😂

Come on, show and tell!! And congratulations - you’ve made a very wise purchase 👏

GenAndWine · 18/04/2023 20:45

What makes the shopping experience so fabulous? I mean I assume it’s vastly superior to my click, collect and return all with small kids hanging off me shopping experiences but I want the details.

Appleblum · 19/04/2023 00:42

Yes do share pics and let us know how you get on with your mini. I had 2 minis and a square mini and sold them as they weren't very practical for me. I pack lightly but I don't like playing tetris in my bag, I like to just chuck the whole lot in.

The classic flap looks so lovely but it always surprises me when people tell me it's the bag they use regularly. The 3 classic flaps I have have been used less than twice in the past year 😅

Noeggsontoast · 19/04/2023 06:54

How exciting! I just came across this thread. Please do share some photos, so we can share the joy of unboxing your new beauty. I have a medium black 2:55 as my day bag and a classic black lambskin extra mini for evenings. My favourite between the two is the extra mini, it's just so soft. I think with it being so tiny I haven't had to baby it too much. I'd love another in a more vibrant colour but have never been able to decide which to go for.

UnaVaca · 19/04/2023 07:05

Has anyone bought second hand? Enjoy your new purchase OP.

schmalex · 19/04/2023 08:12

@GenAndWine It's just very relaxed and luxurious - you get an individual sales consultant who takes you over to a seat and asks you what you'd like to see. They bring you a few things, you have a look at them, they show you some more, you try them on. You really get to see a lot of options, touch the leather, they don't rush you to make a decision. Definitely wouldn't want to do it with my kids with me :)

I also love the people watching in there, but that might be because I'm a writer.

schmalex · 19/04/2023 08:13

@UnaVaca I haven't ever bought secondhand but have been tempted. Just need to make sure it's from somewhere 100% reliable.

AprillaCourt · 19/04/2023 12:41

Hello all 👋🏻

Sorry for the delay - yesterday evening turned out to be insanely busy & this morning has been no different!

I've attached a photo here, I hope you can see it 📷

I went for the Mini 2.55 in white which this season comes with antique gold metal. I surprised myself by actually really liking that option. It didn't come in silver this year but I think that would have made it look too cold. In previous years they have had it with black metal or ruthenium & I know I definitely wouldn't have liked either of those, not on white. The matte antique gold is IMHO rather sophisticated, & will work perfectly with navy, red, & that whole 1980s/nautical look that I love.

I was in Selfridges in Manchester & this is one of only two Mini 2.55's in white that they have had this year. the other sold in Feb. The SA checked & there was one left in Bond St & that's it for the UK. So it's been a very limited production & I was lucky to get one.

I went for the purse at the same time as the SA checked & it was literally the only one in the UK! I didn't buy the purse when I bought my medium black 2.55 in 2021 & then had to search for it later. That wasn't difficult as they usually have one in stock in each boutique but this was clearly different & very limited so it was now or never!

The purse has champagne gold metal but I don't mind as I think it's complementary. I said on my other thread that I don't like inconsistency but it occurs to me that I don't mind that when it comes to Chanel, I think that's partly because Gabrielle herself mixed things up but it all had a common theme & pulled together well. So it doesn't matter that my bags are both 2.55s & my purses are both Classics with the interlocked CC, because they are all definitively Chanel & work together.

After I left the store I nipped to & Other Stories & Zara but thankfully didn't find anything as my credit card was fanning itself to cool down 😀

Thanks to everyone on my thread for keeping me company 🙂

I now desperately want a Classic in navy argh 🫢😀

I'm going to Chanel tomorrow...

@schmalex I have to admit the Boy is the one Chanel I don't like 😬 I know I'm in the minority though! They had some gorgeous tweeds yesterday, including a pink one to match a pink suit. It looked stunning.

I know exactly what you mean about wanting to be there to experience the gift! My partner bought me a Chanel scarf in 2019 but I insisted on being the one who went & actually bought it as I didn't want to miss out!

My SC was about to send me photos but I arrived before she had chance! It was nice to see her again, although the young man who served me was delightful too (oh god I sound so old describing him as a "young man" 😀)

Hi @Justfivemoreminutesplease 👋🏻 At least you're here now 😀

I might start a Chanel chat thread, what do you think? 🙂

OP posts:
AprillaCourt · 19/04/2023 12:50

@GenAndWine They do make a fuss of you but it's understated, as @schmalex says. I've done years of Click n Collect with children clinging to my skirt so I know what that's like! This is very different - it's grown up, personal to the customer, zero pressure, just a lovely chat over beautiful things with someone who really knows their stuff (the staff are very well trained in the Chanel brand & it's history.) Considering that it's high couture with prices to match I've always found it very relaxing & peaceful. Just a lovely experience all round 🙂

Also @schmalex you're a writer - am I likely to have read your stuff? Very exciting to be in your company 😀

OP posts:
AprillaCourt · 19/04/2023 12:53

@Appleblum I have the medium 2.55 double flap rather than a Classic but I think it's roughly the same size. I find it nicely capacious, but I was surprised how much I could comfortably get in this Mini. I definitely prefer a smaller bag for summer as a bigger bag starts to feel irritating in warmer weather, so this will be perfect 🙂

OP posts:
AprillaCourt · 19/04/2023 12:54

@Noeggsontoast I've never craved a colourful Chanel but having seen some of the beautiful pink tweeds yesterday I may be changing my mind! I think a bright red would be nice too

@UnaVaca I know a lot of people rate Naughtipidgins Nest, I gather it's a very professional outfit, though I've never bought from there myself so can't give a personal recommendation

Beautiful 💞 I'm on the hop now but congratulations on the new family members 😄

AprillaCourt · 19/04/2023 12:57

Thanks @Snowite 🙂

When you've stopped hopping 😀 would you appreciate a Chanel chat thread? I might start one 🤔
