The orange skin/fake lashes/massive eyebrows type of look…

Fake nails, fake hair, fake everything really… where does that originate and why does anything think they look good in it?
Yes I know, we are all free to do what we like, of course. But honestly, I find it so bizarre and truly ugly, nobody ever looks good with it, it’s so bad.
How does one become convinced that’s the way to go to look good!?

"I actually think most people unless they have black hair look good with a bit of a tan, but I'm mixed race so may be biased!"

I agree, because we associate paleness with illness and tiredness. I use tanning drops myself. I think people are judgy about the orange tans and too much of it more than just using any fake tan, which is healthier than having a real tan.

Is it OK to sneer at older, richer women then or is that also unsisterly and misogynist? Amanda Holden gave me a fright on the cover of The Times today with her new, not improved face.

But I am probably 'jealous'. Or maybe I just think it's appalling that so many women are not allowed to age.

People sneer at older, richer women all the time.

By mince and cheese you mean ombre and balayage?

Not a fan, but I will say that I think the orange look is at least slightly toned down from the 2000s. I thought most celebs looked dirty through the amount of fake tan back then. Yuk!

I think fake tans are better these days.
No idea where Trump buys his though. Proof that money can't buy taste.

I don't like tans. I don't think most people look better with a tan. They just make me think fast track to wrinkles and skin cancer.

That “look” is a class signifier.

You wouldn’t catch girls from Marlborough going around like that.

Well I was just born this way...

But as PP says these days we know so much more about the dangers of sun damage its why there are all these products out there, unfortunately some are better than others!

We've got 'common' and 'young' being mentioned, but Botox and filler (cheeks not lips at least) is mainly rich older women.

I think the other thing about extreme fake tan really being pushed out as something women need to look good is that generally speaking, women in the Northern hemisphere are lighter skinned so this can be sold to them as a product they need, whereas in other countries where the average woman has darker skin, skin whitening/lightening products are pushed out. The beauty industry is not going to make any money telling women they are ok as they are.

This!

It's a money making con.

Why can't people see this?

Because they're blinded by what certain parts of society have told influenced them to do.

Sheep!

Haven't RTFT so sorry if someone else has posted this but there was an interesting article in the FT on this very subject yesterday, entitled How Millennial Faces Fell Out of Fashion. I have used my quota of free articles but hopefully others will be able to read this:

Getting botox and fillers is not minimalist or less is more, IMO. That's my problem with current beauty trends. Injectable appear to be the same as getting a hair cut. They are not. Especially not in your 20s or 30s.

Well yes subtle small amounts of Botox (with a skilled professional) is a quick procedure that actually gives results unlike other expensive treatments that don't. It's not particularly painful at all getting waxed and plucked hurts much more but is seen as socially acceptable. Botox is also used for excessive sweating and TMJ pain not just for wrinkles. There's so many people with Botox Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex pretty much most celebrities get it. Botox is supposed to be preventative cosmetically there's no point starting at 65 when lines are very deep. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the human body that's what is used in fillers and skincare. It's not a freaky substance.

Most of the people you see in the media who you think look well have had subtle injectables done. The ones with massive lips and overfilled have gone too far.
