The orange skin/fake lashes/massive eyebrows type of look…

Fake nails, fake hair, fake everything really… where does that originate and why does anything think they look good in it?
Yes I know, we are all free to do what we like, of course. But honestly, I find it so bizarre and truly ugly, nobody ever looks good with it, it’s so bad.
How does one become convinced that’s the way to go to look good!?

But they do say this! Everyone has an opinion on everyone else, that’s life. If you use fake tan, reposition your eyebrows and have lashes that mean you can’t see, people will judge you. Some will equally judge you if you wear no makeup and Boden. Each to their own! Like it or not, you are making a statement about yourself by the way you present yourself. Truth is, people make these judgements a thousand times a day, it’s human nature. we seek people out who have similar values to ourselves, neither is wrong just different.

What is the mince and cheese look?

I’m here just to find this out too :)

Me too. Googling it just gave me lots of recipes.

Adrelaxzz · 24/03/2023 23:41

I shared a clinic space with a cosmetic therapist studio. They did fillers/lips/ Botox. High end.
The fillers and lips rarely improved anyone. high end. Always busy. I did feel for the people having it done as they would walk in looking fine and never leave looking better. I always hoped they felt better about themselves but worried they wouldn't.

Train007 · 24/03/2023 23:44

Every generation has a different look..yes they do look hideous but I looked bloody awful with my perm and puffed sleeves in the 80s absolutely loved Simon Le Bon 😂

pagopago · 24/03/2023 23:45

It started around 10 years ago when The Only Way Is Essex was big. Porn culture also has a lot to answer for.

C'mon, we need to know ..

DeeCeeCherry · 25/03/2023 01:09

Every decade, including the one you were young in, has young people who looked a state, and older women who bitch about younger women. There've been some decidedly weird styles Inthe past it's nothing new. HTH

SocksAndTheCity · 25/03/2023 01:31

Of course it has, as plenty of posters have said already. The bitching years ago (IIRC) mostly involved calling women whose appearance met with disapproval 'common' rather than prim references to 'lower socioeconomic backgrounds', but we all know what they mean. The snobbery is appalling.

bookbuddy · 25/03/2023 01:32

Drag queens & porn are a huge influence, you’ve only got to watch drag race to see it’s all there. The massive lips, contouring, huge lashes, big eyebrows, big cheeks, big boobs, long nails, padded butts & huge hair. It’s just an exaggerated version of a female that’s been glamourised. I personally don’t find it glamorous but each to their own!

Minirrriot · 25/03/2023 02:32

I so want to know what the mince and cheese look is.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/03/2023 02:46

I live and work in Essex, supposedly the epicentre of this look. And I rarely see it. Very rarely.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/03/2023 02:47

Maybe they're Muppets fans?

The orange skin/fake lashes/massive eyebrows type of look…
BeggyMitchell · 25/03/2023 03:16

Will the mince & cheese poster please come back and explain herself? 😂

LadyOfTheCanyon · 25/03/2023 06:19

I reckon mince and cheese is wearing thin leggings so tight you can see every bump of cellulite and arse dimple.

That's what came to mind for me, anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mercurial123 · 25/03/2023 06:40

I don't think this look is going anywhere, unfortunately. There are so many women where I work who still look like this, and they are all ages.

Forever42 · 25/03/2023 07:06

I think it is a very British thing too, most young women in the rest of Europe would never want to dress or look like that

Just a snapshot but I was struck while on holiday in France last year that I didn't see any teens/young women on the streets etc who had heavy makeup, lashes, thick eyebrows etc. Lots of short hair and round, gold-framed glasses. Having said that I remember back in the 90s living in a town popular with language exchanges that the European students wore little make up and dressed in a way that us "trendy" Brits considered distinctly nerdy so I think tastes have always been different.

There are plenty of young girls here who don't subscribe to it either of course, I just think the ones that do are more noticeable.

pictoosh · 25/03/2023 07:11

We call them ‘the orange and yelly people’ - orange face, yellow hair…no discernible natural features because they’re all plastered over by make up. To each their own but to my eye, they look a state.

I was a youngster in the 90s and as much as we had an our fair share of dodgy trends, they didn’t touch the obnoxiousness of the current look. It was beach waves, fat trainers, hoodies and combats.
We appear to have reached a stage where fashion for women is simply ornamentation for pleasing men. How sad, desperate and frankly grotesque they look to me.
I have a 14 yr old daughter who has zero interest in emulating any of this clowning, thank fuck. The wee girls in all this get up look weird as shit…yet their mums are so proud of their little plastic porn stars to the point of facebooking photos of them looking ‘beautiful hun’.

What the fuck has happened?

pictoosh · 25/03/2023 07:15

Ps…I think the mince and cheese comment referees to the heavy brown fake tan and orange (blonde, sorry) hair combo.

Orangetapemeasure · 25/03/2023 07:16

@Forfrigz 🤣🤣🤣🤣

zizza · 25/03/2023 07:18

Done well, I think some look lovely, but generally I just think what a waste of time, money and natural youthful good looks 😆

Also, these are the same generation of women who say they can't afford to get on the property ladder - it's no wonder - financial priorities?!

scoobycute · 25/03/2023 07:26

Wow this thread is so nasty and judgemental!

Turmerictolly · 25/03/2023 07:26

I think it's a socio economic thing too. You get this look in pockets of the more deprived or traditionally working class areas of London but it seems more ubiquitous in the northern towns and cities. As someone said earlier it's the equivalent of the shell suit trend from years ago. However as a pp said, as long as the women feel good in themselves, who are we to judge.

RampantIvy · 25/03/2023 07:41

scoobycute · 25/03/2023 07:26

Wow this thread is so nasty and judgemental!

It's judgemental because so many of the women who go for this fakery just look like caricatures. It's almost like a uniform really.

There is nothing wrong with making the most of yourself, but I'm just not a fan of the Barbie doll look and neither is DD.

It would be interesting to see if there will be any impact on the health of people who have had a lot of botox/fillers when they get older.

Artemisty · 25/03/2023 07:44

It's just a 'look'. In the same way grunge is a look, or punk, or whatever I did in the 90s.
Probably started with the Kardashians although they have the money to do it well. If you're getting your lip filler done for £100 by the local beauty therapist it's not going to be great is it.

I think it will reverse soon enough. Trends come and go. we're seeing so many more people do it there's a saturation point.

Will be interesting to see what today's 17,18 year olds start spending their money on once they've got the disposable income.
