The orange skin/fake lashes/massive eyebrows type of look…

Fake nails, fake hair, fake everything really… where does that originate and why does anything think they look good in it?
Yes I know, we are all free to do what we like, of course. But honestly, I find it so bizarre and truly ugly, nobody ever looks good with it, it’s so bad.
How does one become convinced that’s the way to go to look good!?

I can't imagine brushing my eyebrows up and cementing them like that with eyebrow gel (like glue)
I don't get how people can afford lashes, nails, tan, eyebrows and hair all done every few weeks!

“It doesn’t make money for the people who look like that but it sure as hell keeps people in business. Lashes are £40-60 every few weeks, hair £100 plus depending on what you get more for extensions. Tan £20-30 a spray , Botox is £150 and lips £50-100 there is now also tattooed eyebrows & lips. Plus waxing and facials”

So not exactly a bottle of sun in and a perm. I don’t know where they get the money from or the bloody time to do it. Where will fashion go from here? What next? Probably hit DD 🫣 😫

Most of the girls I know who look like that a) live at home with parents and work or b) are heavily in debt or c) dare drug dealers
or all of the above
i was In hairdresser last week and a young girl about 20 sat next to me she looked deformed with fillers was really shy it was very sad. Another girl was saying she’s thousands in debt but is there paying £40 to get her make up done.

A lot of it is designed to look good in still images with careful lighting and posing.

I wonder if people get so used to seeing themselves this way that they forget it doesn't really translate to motion/daylight/other angles.

This

kitsuneghost · 24/03/2023 21:00

I think because tgd procedures are expensive some girls think it makes them look wealthier. But in reality most genuine well off women (except the odd WAG or influencer) don't feel the need.

It's sad because they people that waste money on all this are often the ones that can least afford it.

I had my nose and my eyebrow pierced when I was seventeen and that was considered pretty niche at the time (1989); now piercings and body mods are commonplace. I liked the way it looked, I still do and I had my fair share of judgemental comments from wankers. Nothing changes

I was 17 in 1981. By the time l was 20, loads of people had pierced eyebrows and noses.

People are modifying themselves as there’s nothing new going off clotheswose. Everything’s been done, so the only thing left to modify is yourself.

I'm guessing you didn't live in a small Northern town in the arse end of nowhere. My mother actually threatened to pretend she didn't know me in the street (not that that was much of a threat) 🤣

I agree that the fillers and so on are just a different kind of modification, though.

Pinacalola · 24/03/2023 21:11

The men are the same though, all their body hair removed, except maybe a beard, but not the underarms, highly groomed hair styles (in the barbers every week), they all wear the same clothes and spend hours in the gym, bulking and shedding, drink the protein shakes, quick round of steroids, spray tans and get Turkey teeth. It's not just women who are suffering, and a lot of the things like fillers and Turkey teeth aren't just a passing fashion. They are a lasting body modification.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 24/03/2023 21:13

The ganguro style in Japan is similar - not my thing at all but fascinating. More stylised than how girls wear it here, though.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2023 21:28

To be fair, I don't think Barbara Cartland made a bad job of it, considering her shaky hands and Coke bottle glasses.

MumOf2workOptions · 24/03/2023 21:47

One of my friends has a 19 year old daughter she is 44 and her and the daughter both look like they have 2 slugs on their faces, spiders as eyelashes and sprayed in orange paint
Not a good look
Both naturally attractive and they have also had lip fillers

I get a19 year old experimenting but at 44 you just look stupid!

LakeTiticaca · 24/03/2023 21:53

Some of them look like they've been tangoed 🤣🤣

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 24/03/2023 21:54

The duck lips, orange face paint, daft eye lashes, Botox and so on all look utterly ridiculous in my opinion. But the sad irony is that I reckon everyone who's had all this done looked really pretty beforehand, only to pay good money to ruin themselves. Surely it's down to low self esteem?

Kranke · 24/03/2023 22:06

Wotnowconfused · 24/03/2023 20:16

It has got out of hand a bit. Nothing wrong with some makeup but eye brows and lashes that look like a drag queen or panto dame certainly look ridiculous. Especially with orange skin and lip fillers.
It's sad that the younger generation who have great skin and natural beauty feel this is a look to aspire too and it's so heavily pushed in social media.

We had no eyebrows in my era. Also Rimmeled to the 9s with cheap foundation on people with perfect skin. Those who had acne also used to plaster their faces in it. Also we were told to strip our faces in acid for problem skin. It made a lot of problems worse. At least now people have better guidance for different skin types.

Imagine if someone had been able to create a new version of a perm that just created very slight beachy waves without destroying your hair.

to be fair I would have loved that for much of the last ten years!

My hair does this on its own since I had some long layers put in. I just wash it in the evening, comb a bit of serum through, put in a clip and scrunch it up a bit in the morning. Not sure if that would work for all hair types but worth a try?

WimbyAce · 24/03/2023 22:11

It's the lips that I don't understand, truly bizarre!!

I absolutely WISH this was the case, but even though I have done no shampoo, no silicone, etc etc mine will always be straight as a die.

Museya15 · 24/03/2023 22:24

Don't forget the collagen in the top lip that makes them look like ducks.

Kardashians, TOWIE, online porn, drag queens...

I find that look is just cheap and ugly.

It is also the triumph of consumerism/marketing. Young women have been conditioned to think that they need to redo/fake everything about their appearance, fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake nails, fake tan, the same long straightened hair...

I think it is rather sad.

When you think about previous trends, 90s grunge, punk, goths, Emos, 70s hippy chicks or whatever...at least there was a sense of freedom & individuality.

This look is just to me just says over-made up, not too bright, sheep...

I think it is a very British thing too, most young women in the rest of Europe would never want to dress or look like that because there is nothing classy or sophisticated about it and it just does nothing to enhance how these girls look.

I agree. Of course young women have always experimented with style, and their parents disagreed with how they looked, but this particular look is particularly horrible. I'm not in the UK and that look is not nearly as common here - thank goodness.

Absolutely spot on.

*As pp said, in the 80's we had peroxide blonde spiral perms and blue mascara.?

Except the vast majority of people didn't. The people who carry the latest fashions to the extreme always look bloody stupid!

iminvestednow · 24/03/2023 22:39

Season0fTheWitch · 24/03/2023 20:41

I've got lip filler, botox, subtle eyelash extensions, acrylic nails, bleach blonde long hair, etc. No orange skin or big eyebrows. I like how it looks, I think it looks bad when done cheaply but I've invested a lot into how I look both long-term and short term procedures. But when people with money create a trend, it always gets imitated by people without money so it loses it's novelty.

At least we don't get perms and wear shell suits...

Are you sure? With all that it sounds as if you look like every other person doing the same.

iminvestednow · 24/03/2023 22:41

The thing is, you are the 2020’s equivalent of the shellsuit wearers!

Forfrigz · 24/03/2023 22:43

The fillers really do reach a point where if you happened to fall unconscious in public there's a chance your condition could be mistaken for anaphylaxis

AliceMcK · 24/03/2023 22:55

Nrtft

In the immortal words of meatloaf, you took the words right out of my mouth. I know there are fashions, but surely we’ve learnt, or at least, fashions should have improved. I have a SIL, DH & I refer to her as my Umpa Lumpa sister, because she’s so fucking orange, her and my mother, the whole orange, fake lashes, nails, dressing way beyond age or body style. I’m just grateful the whole mince and cheese look has gone.

I had the conversation with my tweens, if they ever come home all fake and looking like umpa lumpas I’d disown them. Of course I won’t, but im hoping to teach them they don’t have to fake it all.

I dont have a problem with fashion, or trends, I’ve been victim to a few myself, but there is a line I draw and it’s anything fake looking.

Liorae · 24/03/2023 22:58

What is the mince and cheese look?

ywnbarwkitty · 24/03/2023 23:02

Alot of the replies on this thread are so horrible and catty, saying people look deformed and like they have slugs on their face or not classy enough, and alot of these posts specify that theyre "young girls" too, just smells a bit like jealousy that you don't think they're doing the right thing with their looks, or you're angry because you think they're appealing to "porn" images as some posters have said. It's a very feminine focused look and not really for men, it's a woman's idea of beauty to an excess just like the male version is juiced up with a huge jaw.

I don't wear any makeup unless I'm going out somewhere fancy and always have my hair back but I can appreciate people who are all glammed up with extensions and fake tan and filler if that's their thing, it's interesting to look at and if they like it and can afford it good for them. Imagine if this was said about overweight people, or boden frumps or people who used tret looking like they have leather for skin, it wouldn't be received well.
