The orange skin/fake lashes/massive eyebrows type of look…

Fake nails, fake hair, fake everything really… where does that originate and why does anything think they look good in it?
Yes I know, we are all free to do what we like, of course. But honestly, I find it so bizarre and truly ugly, nobody ever looks good with it, it’s so bad.
How does one become convinced that’s the way to go to look good!?

I hope the trend for this look passes soon but it’s not showing any signs of being over yet.

Mercurial123 · 25/03/2023 07:47

Maybe it will become less popular if people are influenced by "celebrities ".

They look fine. Most people look fairly standard, I don't see how it matters if they are a bit orange or a bit heavy on the makeup.

It's just a look. It comes from wanting to look better, knowing that say longer lashes will make you look better and so buying primark lashes, then getting bigger and bigger lashes/lips etc. Seeing people on Instagram look good and wanting to emulate that. In most cases it's very young girls who haven't learned how to do their makeup yet and want to look like their friends.

It's been around for nearly 20yrs now. Its not a new look and if anything is going out of fashion. As I said mostly very young girls doing it. Time and time again we get threads on this look that's hardly even worn anymore. Its a sad attempt by people to make themselves feel better than other women

AbsolutePixels · 25/03/2023 08:28

This look is an example of a supernormal stimulus, in my opinion.

SilentHedges · 25/03/2023 08:30

I do think the look is very drag queen, I.e how men think they should try and look, to look like a woman. Quite insulting and pushes stereotypes most women want to disassociate from.

When the latest Katie Price pics hit the press a few weeks ago, it was interesting reading Twitter comments from people in other parts of the world who had no idea who she was. They were asking "Who's this man?"

Come ON @AliceMcK , there’s a whole queue of people here who NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE MINCE AND CHEESE LOOK IS!!!

Wow this thread is so nasty and judgemental!

Awful.

I knew it would be before I even read any of the replies.

Would love to know what the oil paintings who are posting look like.

For the record, I couldn’t look less like the description the OP is referring to.

Personally, I think there’s a huge difference between perms, blue mascara, shell suits etc and Botox/fillers, hair extensions.

Everything we do is our choice, however, seeing young women, some not even out of their teens, with lip fillers and Botox is something I find concerning. Will they be happy to go back to normal sized lips and movable faces in years to come or will they never feel comfortable seeing their normal features 🤷‍♀️
I see a young woman I’ve known all of her life, she’s now 21, she’s had lip fillers from being 17, is never without fake tan, lashes, gel nails etc. It’s not a look I like but it’s none of my business. There’s no sign of the filler stopping.

Nrtft

In the immortal words of meatloaf, you took the words right out of my mouth. I know there are fashions, but surely we’ve learnt, or at least, fashions should have improved. I have a SIL, DH & I refer to her as my Umpa Lumpa sister, because she’s so fucking orange, her and my mother, the whole orange, fake lashes, nails, dressing way beyond age or body style. I’m just grateful the whole mince and cheese look has gone.

I had the conversation with my tweens, if they ever come home all fake and looking like umpa lumpas I’d disown them. Of course I won’t, but im hoping to teach them they don’t have to fake it all.

I dont have a problem with fashion, or trends, I’ve been victim to a few myself, but there is a line I draw and it’s anything fake looking.

In my experience knowing multiple people who look like this and are insecure. Also having a daughter who I brought up in london who happily went down a “ it’s cool to be clever and alternative”. And lastly being someone acutely insecure in my younger years. I can tell you the only way you can help your kids to avoid going down this path is to guide and support them to value and love themselves for things outside of their attractiveness

tiaandduck · 25/03/2023 12:12

My 19 year old niece has lip fillers, was nothing wrong with her natural lips. She has the nails, tan, eyelashes and laminated brows. Money to burn but people are valuing this stuff over saving for a house etc. mostly it's to do with insecurity, validation, especially from opposite sex, I personally feel. Inspiration from love island mostly.

5128gap · 25/03/2023 12:35

I'm surprised at the number of people attributing insecurity to young women who favour this look. Unfortunately women in general are prone to insecurity about their appearance, but I don't find those who go in for this look particularly susceptible. On the contrary, whatever people on here think, who are after all chasms apart from them in age and lifestyle; these young women typically like their look very much indeed and I can't imagine any of them for a moment wanting to look like the older women sneering at them. Yet interestingly you don't find threads where young women who groom laugh at the appearance of older ones who don't, mocking their sensible hairstyles and seasalt tunics. Because that would be rude.

It's the lack of individuality that I find interesting. At their age I could be Goth one week, Ska the next etc, so many different looks to go with the oh so many different types of music

Yes everyone ends up looking the same and being sheep following trends. Individuality is so much better imo

TheOGCCL · 25/03/2023 12:50

I agree with PPs that there seems a difference between working with what you have so perming your hair as opposed to adding to your hair, using blue mascara as opposed to having extensions, wearing frosted lipstick as opposed to pumping your lips up. But then maybe if these things had been easily available in the 80s and 90s people would have done it then too.

People just seem to want to fit in these days. You see hundreds of girls who all look pretty much the same. The shops all sell the same thing.
I wouldn’t have the time or energy for it.

They really don't "look fine". I understand wanting to look better, but sadly the complete opposite happens.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/03/2023 12:59

Being tanned has been in fashion since we transitioned from a country of laborer's to a country of service workers. In the past it was fashionable to be pale because it meant you were rich enough to just stay in doors, eating grapes or something. Now its mimicking the rich jet setting lifestyle.

I actually think most people unless they have black hair look good with a bit of a tan, but I'm mixed race so may be biased!

As for the lips and lashes, aren't we blaming the Kardashians for that? Again fashion is cyclic again and thinner brows are making a comeback.

Personally I looked bloody ridiculous as a teen/student with my black and purple lipstick and industrial hairstyle. Also ruined my hair with sun-in. So I'm not going to judge!

Me neither, it looks, erm, regional….

thedevilinablackdress · 25/03/2023 13:22

On the one hand, yes it's just fashion and if you don't like it, well it's not for you.
On the other, fillers, turkey teeth etc. can have lasting consequences.

RampantIvy · 25/03/2023 13:27

You get them on some of the S & B threads.

TBH it all sounds exhaustingly high maintenance and time consuming.

lenorofavenor · 25/03/2023 13:34

Would love to know what the oil paintings who are posting look like.

Awful would be attacking someone's actual looks- their weight, facial features, hair type, weight etc.

Criticising a cortina loon is not awful anymore than saying you hate a style of clothes is awful. Your fillers are not your face and every single person looks better without super overdone fillers.

The only way I can see anyone being upset by this thread is if they know that their fillers are overinflated or their extensions are a bit cheap.

lenorofavenor · 25/03/2023 13:35

Or when people attack all big pups which is going to include naturally big and targets people from certain backgrounds. Have not seen anyone do that on this thread so🤷🏼‍♀️

Some weird auto corrects going on there @lenorofavenor Grin
