The retail price of some brands/products is laughable! I’m a beauty box addict, and I’ve received for a tiny fraction of the cost creams/whatever “worth” £100+. Obviously things are only worth what people are prepared to pay for them, but £100+ for a 30ml (or 50ml) moisturiser? Avant springs to mind - I like the brand, and it’s a staple in beauty boxes so I’ve tried loads of their products, but they aren’t better or even nicer to use than other much cheaper brands. Ditto Eve Lom, and ESPA, and others I can’t think of atm.

Yeah I have been using some of the products from the Harper's Bazaar beauty box and whilst they were nice enough, there's no way in hell I'd pay £90 for a small serum.

I really am irredeemable. Just subscribed to Grazia magazine’s “Beauty Club”, £7.99 a month - anyone else a member? You get fortnightly copies of Grazia delivered by post, and an annual beauty box (should get it within 28 days of joining). Plus all the offers and discounts that apply to every other beauty subscription.

As I will soon be 60 and no longer liable for £20 a month subscription charges, I have the money to spare!

FiveShelties · 31/05/2023 18:41

I am flying back to NZ with all sorts of goodies in my suitcase, I think I may have to do a new stock take. On my last visit to UK I left quite a bit of stuff at Mum's so have brought most of that home, together with the odd new item!

Hope they have not lost my suitcase en route. So spoilt in UK with great prices and so much choice.

I mean PRESCRIPTION charges, not subscription charges! In case anyone was wondering which beauty subs become magically free at the age of 60…

@FiveShelties I hope you managed to get things settled with your mum.

@FiveShelties I hope you managed to get things settled with your mum.

Thank you @PomRuns - sadly Mum died on 14th May, she declined very rapidly and to be honest it was the best outcome. It would have been her 93rd Birthday on 22nd May and up until April when she fell and went into hospital she had been living without any assistance, cooking her meals and cleaning the house. I hope I do as well as that.

StarryNightAddict · 01/06/2023 00:01

So sorry for you loss @FiveShelties 💕

FiveShelties · 01/06/2023 00:05

@StarryNightAddict thank you very much.

PomRuns · 01/06/2023 07:58

@FiveShelties I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sending you a huge hug x

Experiment627 · 01/06/2023 08:53

@MavisMcMinty I did wonder... thanks for clarifying about sub charges 🤣

@FiveShelties sounds like your mum had a great innings 💜 sending you my best wishes.
Am also hoping your suitcase made it just fine over to NZ

@FiveShelties sorry you are going through this. Sending love and prayers 💐

OchonAgusOchonOh · 01/06/2023 10:27

@FiveShelties Sorry for your loss. It was great she was so independent for so long.

nickyschof · 01/06/2023 11:10

Hi, can I join you ladies? I've got a massive storage box of products to get through, not helped by being an Avon rep as well, and ordering new lines of their products.

Fraaahnces · 01/06/2023 12:22

@FiveShelties I hope you have landed safely in Aotearoa and can feel the earth under your feet now that your Mum’s house is done and she is at peace. I hope that you get some time to just “be” before you are required to get back to your new normal.
@nickyschof - welcome! You’re amongst friends here. I’m a tragic addict.

Experiment627 · 01/06/2023 14:15

@nickyschof welcome!!!!! Are you a fan of Avon products? Any HG ones you can recommend? Yonks ago I was a rep but ended up spending way too much on stuff for moi 🙈🙈🙈 never made a penny!

I’m liking my Latest in Beauty subscription, now on my 3rd or 4th month. It’s so nice getting a box where I like/want all 6 items, and take ages browsing backwards and forwards to make my selection.

Last month’s LF box was great, the first in ages where I’ve liked all 6 products. Glossybox is probably my least favourite, rare for me to like anything at all in their box, must remember to discontinue my sub when it’s due again next January.

FiveShelties · 01/06/2023 18:09

@PomRuns @Experiment627 @Thereislightattheendofthetunnel @OchonAgusOchonOh @Fraaahnces

Many thanks for your good wishes, I am very grateful. I have my feet very firmly on NZ soil and very, very pleased to be home. I will have to return when Mum's house is sold and completes but will think about that later.

It is 5.00 am in NZ and stupid jetlag has me up and seeing what is going on in the world. My suitcase is very much here and there seems to be a lot of new stuff in it - cannot imagine how that happened.

Experiment627 · 01/06/2023 21:49

@FiveShelties hopefully the jet lag will be gone soon xxx how lovely to have so much new stuff to try out 💜

I started using Plantur 39 dark brown a few days ago but am going to put on back burner for a bit... the Tresemme Beauty-Full shampoo & conditioner combo seems to have irritated my scalp so need to try something gentler. I bought the cheap as chips Garnier Hair Food range earlier... funnily Yuka would not work in Superdrug!!!! I kept on getting funny looks from the staff trying to make it work 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I just got a clothes delivery from some online shopping and my 4 year old said "mummy is it more beauty?" 🙈🙈🙈🙈

OP posts:
Fraaahnces · 01/06/2023 23:26

@FiveShelties - that jet lag is a beast isn’t it? Much worse this way than the other. The extra bits in your suitcase can easily be explained as a healthy coping mechanism.
@Experiment627 your kid sounds awesome

Experiment627 · 02/06/2023 10:01

@Fraaahnces he is 🤩🤩🤩he is also a cutie patootie 🥰

The glossybox limited edition boxes are worth a look. I've ordered the rituals one and the loving proof one. Loads of full size products at a decent price

MavisMcMinty · 02/06/2023 10:45

Oh yes, @BluebellBlueballs , I’ve bought a few of those, most recently the Grazia Winter box which had been reduced to £50 - such a big beautiful box too!

Cyclingmummy1 · 02/06/2023 11:03

@MavisMcMinty that was a great box. I don't know how I managed it, but I only paid £35! And then was gutted that I'd missed the blue light discount 😆

Loving this thread, it makes me giggle and I look minimalist compared to some hoarders. It has spurred me on to use things up, sell things on, and bin products I don't like.
