Have you had your colours done? What did you think?

I always said I'd never do it as I associate it with women in huge bright patterns and chunky necklaces. No idea why!

But decided to bite the bullet after realising my wardrobe is just every colour under the sun

I was surprised to be a deep/dark autumn. No idea I was surprised tbh but I was

It makes sense now I think about it more but I definitely wanted to be a bright summer or something!

Donkeys years ago long before the internet - my sister and I took our Mum to get her colours done

Then she paid for both of us to get ours done a few weeks later

I was sorting out cupboards the other week and found my wallet of colours - I am deep autumn (but years ago so might have different names/terms now)

I have got my DS wedding coming up and chose my outfit from my colours - Green with hint of dark red it looks lovely on me - so found the wallet just at right time

In between times I had forgotten and got blue tops just cos I like the colour blue but the green sort of changes something but hard to describe it exactly why. My mum used to tell me (before getting the colours done, to wear green but I liked blue - so moral of the story is listen to your Mum)

I don't wear any make up btw

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 21/03/2023 01:02

My mum is a spring, I think it was anyway,

As a result her wearing silver rim glasses rather than gold rim was amazing to see the difference, her eyes sparkled in silver

@MistySkiesAreGone

I know I look best in medium scale, nothing too fussy collar wise, slim straight silhouette or balancing contrast like tight top wide leg, not sure what else I can learn.

Mine was about scale of prints/accessories, neckline, waistline, skirt length, trouser shape, texture, fabric, structure/drape. Also 'vibe' - like rock chick vs Hollywood starlet for instance. It sounds like you might not benefit that much, tbh.

I was given tons of things to try on and ended up with new ways of seeing things. I found basic first principles incredibly helpful.

Like any advice, you have to take what works for you!

I just got mine done yesterday- House of Colour. I've just had a semi significant birthday and treated myself!

The consultant was excellent. I thought I was on the cusp of dark winter and dark autumn but turned out to be jewel winter! It was interesting to see I was naturally putting myself down as dark colours type when I actually I look better in bright colours. My consultant wore blacks before getting hers done years ago and then found she's spring! Think people tend to want to hide themselves away.

One of the good colours is electric blue 100% and I kept thinking Hilary Clinton pant suit!! I won't go down that route.

Anyway the make up colours were the best actually - the lipsticks were an omg moment - "this is the shade I've been looking for!"

CrapColdCoffee · 22/03/2023 14:13

@tobee Wow I wish I could say the same. I thought I would be a jewel winter as well, I looked amazing in the brightest colours, but then she told me my best ones are the dark ones. I really couldn't see what she saw. I think I will just wear the jewel tones as I think they looked best. I just couldn't see it what she did at all. Feel like I threw lots of money away.

How does this work if you colour your hair? My hair is candy floss pink and has been for around 5 years I do get lots of compliments on it and it's very different from my light brown( with lots of grey) that I would be if I didn't colour my hair. I'm not sure how that goes with having colours done

tobee · 22/03/2023 14:19

Oh that's a shame @CrapColdCoffee!

Taking it all a bit too seriously I put off going coz I was worried about being autumn and didn't want to be! 🙄😁

I colour mine and hair colour doesn't really come into it! Except for advice for as I get older and may want to stop dyeing to cover grey.

What happens is the cover your hair in a white head scarf thing and it's down to skin tone etc. My consultant said something about cells?

MissCherryCakeyBun · 22/03/2023 14:38

Thanks @tobee that's really interesting

@Fellsidefeather I would also love a dm with details of your colour person, ta.

I’ve sent a pm - it’s come up under a different name I use sometimes but it’s from me!

VenusClapTrap · 22/03/2023 17:32

Just got my results through from Emily at Style Me Happy. I’m a Muted Summer. They’re all my favourite colours and what I’ve been wearing for years! So that’s quite funny.

FinallyHere · 22/03/2023 18:16

Maybe I'm missing something. Doesn't seem 'funny' to me, just that you already had a good grip on what suits you.

Were you unsure about your own sense of what works for you ? What did you hope to gain from the analysis?

VenusClapTrap · 22/03/2023 23:13

I found it mildly amusing that I’d paid someone to tell me what I already must know. I did it because I was curious what the analysis would conclude. It was still useful in that it confirmed I’m getting it generally right. I wasn’t 100% sure.

Chocchops72 · 23/03/2023 05:52

i think what I benefited from was being given permission to wear my ‘star’ colours. A long history as a former goth / metalhead 😂 meant that even years later my wardrobe was full of black, and I rarely bought anything bright. It turns out that - like @tobee consultant - I’m bright Spring, with coral pink, aqua turquoise and leaf green as my absolute best colours 🤷‍♀️ . And they are. So I immediately binned all the black.

i guess it can be hard when the ‘you’ in your head doesn’t match the ‘you’ that the colours point to: for me it was liberating.

Theos · 23/03/2023 06:05

Years ago. Maybe twenty. Muted summer. Def true

KatharinaRosalie · 23/03/2023 06:10

yes same here really, I already knew muted pastels were best for me, but I also loved bright spring colours (too strong and drain me, even if I like the colour as such) and for some reason started believing brown is a good colour on me (it really isn't). So it's still useful.

MargotMoon · 29/03/2023 22:35

I got my colours done online and think they might be wrong - I'm down as dark winter but my skin isn't that pale. I'm Caucasian but have lots of freckles and tan fairly easily so think maybe I'm autumn so warm shades rather than cool. Not sure whether to email back and ask or just go and do some shopping to try to work it out for myself (I hate shopping! Which is why I need someone to tell me what to buy! 😅)

Southstand · 29/03/2023 23:30

MargotMoon - try putting blue based colours up against your face versus yellow. I thought I was a winter but a wine colour cardigan brings every blotch out on my face whereas I look alive in coral. The right colours also look expensive on you rather than garish.

I like watching Annie Castano from Castanohel on Insta doing colour analysis on people.

I talked to someone more experienced and it seems I am a jewel winter after all, my original person got me wrong. I think it proves it's more important who you go to rather than the system. Makes a massive difference in my experience. I still feel angry I spent so much money on it!!

Dark Winters aren't pale normally.

Also winter's can tan.

I'm a cool winter, but my skin is quite mediterranean looking. I thought that this must mean I was an autumn, despite my eye colour and wore quite a bit of brown but could never wear orange.

My analysis now though makes loads more sense and the colours suit me better.

I have done quite a bit of reading now around colour analysis and it seems fairly common to believe that cool seasons are fair and don't tan. That isn't true.

It might help you to look at others who are your season too. The style me happy Facebook page is quite helpful for this, there are people on there who were analysed elsewhere and if you have serious doubts about your analysis after some reading and experimenting she will tell you whether she thinks you might benefit from another analysis with her (basically whether she thinks it is accurate).

The website "concept wardrobe" is helpful in understanding the analysis too
