Have you had your colours done? What did you think?

I always said I'd never do it as I associate it with women in huge bright patterns and chunky necklaces. No idea why!

But decided to bite the bullet after realising my wardrobe is just every colour under the sun

I was surprised to be a deep/dark autumn. No idea I was surprised tbh but I was

It makes sense now I think about it more but I definitely wanted to be a bright summer or something!

I had mine done 27 years ago. I got a lot of colours for lingerie and can recall being a bit disappointed. One thing it did agree with is I should not wear black. I have always thought black looked awful on me so that was nice to have affirmed.

Very hard in the real world though people assume you have black clothing.

Thank you @Fellsidefeather

Very interesting app, quite unlike anything else I've ever seen.

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 15/03/2023 12:51

That app is odd; I have got cool summer + deep winter + warm autumn all from the same photo!

FinallyHere · 15/03/2023 18:58

@Mistymoonsinastarrysky

I wouldn't trust any colour analysis which uses photos. It absolutely needs to be in person, without the distortions that a photo introduces.

MistySkiesAreGone · 16/03/2023 00:02

@Puffalicious you sound like a cool tone...summer or winter. Do you have piercing bright or solid colour eyes - winter? Or feather patterned eyes - summer? Springs tend to have a characteristic ring around the eye, sort of like children have, we never lose it. Autumns have flecks and hints of warmth in their eyes. A spring could have warm flecks, but Spring eyes are characteristically BRIGHT.

MistySkiesAreGone · 16/03/2023 00:20

I had mine done between lockdowns as I was sick of my wardrobe. It is a bit of an existential crisis at first. I look like an autumn and I came out as Paintbox Spring. I would never have figured that myself. I felt like mustard SHOULD look good on me but always fell short. Actually canary yellow (spring) looks AWFUL on me too.

It also cuts down on shopping time picking clothes in shops.

I just tried the app using a selfie in bright daylight and got Classic Summer.

I'm olive skinned, hazel eyes, warm brown hair. Look good in olive, chocolate, plum, midnight blue, camel.

I am NOT any kind of Summer!

BatFaceOwl · 16/03/2023 08:00

The app is rubbish, not a colour 'diagnostic' tool at all. A bit of fun maybe but that's about it.

I’m white haired (was once dark brunette) olive-ish skin that tans easily, brown eyes.
Goodness knows what I should be!

Would anyone mind sharing a £££ guide for an in person consultation, please, before I embarrass myself? Someone mentioned £250 - is that about normal? Thank you.

supadupapupascupa · 16/03/2023 08:20

The app gives me soft autumn and is way off. I'm deep autumn

IlonaRN · 16/03/2023 08:43

Puffalicious · 07/03/2023 21:52

I'm interested in getting this done for sure. I'm confused when I google the colours as I look best in a real combination!

Any blue really, but cobalt/ denim/ cornflower are best, also pinks but best are pale pink/ fuschia/ coral. I also suit red and a true, bright green and it must be white- anything cream/ beige looks totally crap on me, ditto browns/ olives/ burgundies. I love navy. I wear black only with a slick of bright lipstick in the winter.

Blue eyes, medium skin and originally mousey/ dark blonde now light grey/ blonde (natural).

Any ideas anyone?

This sounds similar to my colouring, and I am a Summer.
However, I don't look great in fuschia, a mid-pink is much better.

Although actually, since coral is good on you, you may be a Spring.

Nothing beats an in-person analysis!

Yes I enquired last week on the back of this thread, and was quoted £250 by my local consultant. I think I’d rather spend that on a dress, curious as I am about all this.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 17/03/2023 16:47

I think it's saved me more than £1500 in unwise purchase decisions since I had the analysis (over the course of several years) but I appreciate that if someone already has a good sense of what suits them then it might not make economic sense.

MultipleVeganPies · 17/03/2023 19:21

£250? ridiculous

BatFaceOwl · 17/03/2023 19:43

@MultipleVeganPies well to you maybe! Not to others.

We all have different priorities and wants and needs

LookingGlassMilk · 17/03/2023 19:49

I haven't had mine done but I'm pretty sure that I'm a deep/dark autumn. I have very dark brown hair and eyes and pale olive skin.

I have always known what colours suit me. I wear burgundy, olive green, mustard yellow, turquoise, red, navy and brown etc. I can't wear pastel colours at all. My sister looks amazing in royal blue but it looks bad on me.
I went to a school that had a brown uniform, and adults used to always comment that it suited me (to my disgust, as I hated the uniform).

Can your colours change as you get older? If I let my hair go completely grey as I get older, will I stop being a dark autumn?

MistySkiesAreGone · 17/03/2023 21:53

You can change sub season @LookingGlassMilk but you would always be an autumn. You sound v confident with your colours, you will figure it out!

CrapColdCoffee · 20/03/2023 12:05

Did you end up doing it OP? I must say I regret going. After reading all the hype about it here on MN I thought it will be life changing. It wasn't!
I managed to successfully analyse myself using the free websites, I recommend truth is beauty.

I went with House of Colour, it cost me £££, but I guess it validated I was right already. Not worth the money if you are not completely bad with colour yourself. She also put very heavy make up on me and suggested some really dreadful colours I know don't work on me (because I need lots of make up!).

It's not 'your best colour' if it needs a ton of lipstick an eye make up if you ask me. I never looked at my 'fan' since and continue as before.

FinallyHere · 20/03/2023 19:34

I would never encourage anyone who is already happy with their colour and style choices to spend £££ on an analysis by any consultant.

It was totally worth it for me because I needed a lot of help to get mine sussed so that I don't have to think about my wardrobe ,just 'know what suits me' the way my DM and DSis have always known for themselves and always have something suitable to wear for any occasion.

No need ever to dash out and buy an outfit because I have nothing to wear, and often find that compromise outfit is never worn again

They didn't enjoy the analysis and came away saying they knew all that already. They also claimed they had told me what suited me and I never listened to them.

For me, it was life changing. I really wanted to look 'put together' with minimal effort, and I absolutely do. I could if pushed get dressed with my eyes closed d still look pretty good because all my clothes suit my figure and colouring: they all work with each other.

I don't spend much on clothes generally and am confident to occasionally splash out because I know that measured as the cost per wear, ill get value even from really expensive items.

ImpossibleDrear · 20/03/2023 20:52

I found it genuinely life-changing. I couldn't tell AT ALL what suited me. This was partly because I'd always been told by my mother that I was a particular season because SHE was that season.

I found shopping overwhelmingly ghastly and couldn't find anything I felt confident in. After the colour and style sessions (and a few years later advanced sessions) I feel very much myself in my choices and know when I look good.

CrapColdCoffee · 20/03/2023 23:56

Telling warm from cool and bright from muted might be helpful, but the whole wow colours HOC do is not exact science. What I saw was not always what my consultant saw, in fact according to her one of my worse colours was my best. Guess what? She was wearing it head to toe! As I said if you have spare money and need some help with your colours, go for it. But I do wonder how much overlap you'd get if you went to a few different consultants. My bet is there would be quite a few differences.

MistySkiesAreGone · 21/03/2023 00:18

Interesting @CrapColdCoffee . Sounds a bit heavy handed. My consultant spent a lot of time so that we could both 'see' what she saw.

Things like the heavy autumn colours bringing out the shadow on my chin and making my face look more square (it is square tbh), it looked more oval in spring colours that don't cast the shadow. Overall they just looked heavy. I KNOW I liked some other season colours and I would still wear them, but I tend to not go out in them...burgundy fluffy dressing gown for example. The real aha moment was a particular shade of blue, I just looked in focus. My consultant loved violet on me and it is such a hard colour to wear without looking either really aged or really young, but I still keep look out for the perfect item.

No need ever to dash out and buy an outfit because I have nothing to wear, and often find that compromise outfit is never worn again

This. I went shopping with a friend and she suggested a dress not quite in my shade. I KNOW I won't reach for it time and again and it won't be as versatile. Sticking to the palette I can create endless new combinations as they all go.

@ImpossibleDrear what actually happens at a style session? I have thought about it but I know I look best in medium scale, nothing too fussy collar wise, slim straight silhouette or balancing contrast like tight top wide leg, not sure what else I can learn.

I struggle with the lipsticks - tonnes of lipstick is not that fashionable for every daywear, so I bought a light lip tint in my season for when I prefer natural. Also looking at more earrings, scarves instead.

CrapColdCoffee · 21/03/2023 00:25

@MistySkiesAreGone perhaps I was just unlucky, but some of the colours that I thought looked great didn't end up as my wows, while others I thought not much of I later saw listed as my best! I was very surprised she marked them as my wows. I guess it depends on the consultant, but I remain sceptical.
