Trainers again - what's cool?

LostidentityM · 18/02/2023 07:04

I have white canvas supergas as a go to, plus multicoloured flyknit Nike for day wear. I'm looking for something stylish and more white/plain to wear with flares or pastel clothes. I just don't know what's trendy anymore. Any tips?

Rain, mud.

Usernamen · 18/02/2023 16:52

My trainers survive rain and I just wipe off any mud when I get home.

pharmachameleon · 18/02/2023 16:54

Love HOFF trainers-I've never seen them before so glad I clicked on this thread.

Toottooot · 18/02/2023 16:59

Anybody worn Air & Grace? Keep seeing sponsored posts for them and like the look of them. Tried Veja on today and they just felt so hard.

hoardod · 18/02/2023 17:09

But I'm always fascinated when an item of clothing that's supposed to be the epitome of comfort and practicality becomes a signifier of who is and isn't cool.

I think trainer brands are quite tribal or at least were a in my 90s youth. Reebok Classics were ubiquitous at one point & I hated them so have never worn Reebok even now. I don't like Veja because they are a bit for the people who don't like trainers. Nike will always be my brand although I quite like NB. What's different now is that a brand or style becomes the one so everyone from 16 to 50 has the exact same trainer on. It was the Stan smith, then veja v10, then Nike airforce, NB 327, etc

Rain, mud.

I understand, it must be hard not knowing how to clean things.

Shoes232 · 18/02/2023 17:36

New balance 327
Nike dunk low- panda if you can possibly get them

Cocolapew · 18/02/2023 17:48

I wear trainers every day, if they get wet they get dried by the radiator, if they get muddy they get put in the washing machine.
Or just wear all leather ones. Its not rocket science.
I like Adidas best, I find Nike a bit narrow for my feet, though DD just got a lovely pair of green and white Jordans.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 18/02/2023 17:50

On cloud is another brand I’m seeing all the time, but it tends to be men rather than women. Particularly teenage boys and men in their 20s.

Whydoitry · 18/02/2023 18:18

Tbh I agree with another poster. Most white trainers I see people wearing look grubby and not very attractive and def not good in the rain.

Having said that, I want a pair of trainers that look like Superga 2750 but good for very narrow feet, if anyone has an idea! I tried on the Superga at the weekend and even in a size below normal they were like boats on my feet!

OrangeKnot · 18/02/2023 18:25

@Tallulasdancingshoes I was so disappointed in OCs colourways for women, pastels and horror.

I like Maison Margiela Replicas. I have a pair of Lora Piana Nuage too that are good. And my old faithful Nike Internationalists.

pompei8309 · 18/02/2023 18:31

McQueens for me , one pair in black , one in white, they go with everything, I don’t really care if they’re still in or not , they’re comfortable and I love them

SwedishEdith · 18/02/2023 18:38

I genuinely do need to wear trainers because, once it gets past boots weather, I need something for a longish walking commute. But I simply couldn't keep up with trainer trends. Those Nike Blazer ones people have linked to just look so flat, I can feel my calves burning already just looking at them.

fridaytwattery · 18/02/2023 18:41

I guess it depends on your overall style @LostidentityM

If you like something a bit different, I can recommend Ash.

Vans Old Skool in black for my latest. We don't do the baggy floral dress and trainers here in Canada. Haven't seen it even once.

Can anyone comment on which of these trainers might be better for slightly wider feet?

I have a new pair of NB 574s that fit my wide fit feet.

I like Saucony, great colours!

Me too, I don't have a pair yet but next time I need trainers I'm going for these. Not stupidly expensive either. I also really like Wushu trainers.

LookItsMeAgain · 18/02/2023 20:10

I have grey suede Nike AF1 on and they go with nearly everything and are soooo comfortable!

EcoCustard · 18/02/2023 20:12

I used to love superga (not white ones though, navy, grey colours) however the pair I purchased last summer are not comfy, they rub and are very uncomfortable. I recently went back to a pair of gazelle’s and I love them, very comfy and I have wide feet.

louderthan · 18/02/2023 21:10

I hate Vejas. I'd go for adidas stan smiths or superstars in white, or possibly Nike Air Force 1s. My personal favourite white trainers are reebok club c 85.

louderthan · 18/02/2023 21:11

Eatglass · 18/02/2023 12:43

I just bought these - reebok classics - reliving the late 90's. I love them.

♥️♥️♥️

Husband that is in the know says it’s all about Adidas Gazelles at the moment if you want a nice low profile trainer

Gazelles are an absolute classic. I wear mine with black tights and a mini skirt, just like I did for school in 1995....
