Trainers again - what's cool?

I have white canvas supergas as a go to, plus multicoloured flyknit Nike for day wear. I'm looking for something stylish and more white/plain to wear with flares or pastel clothes. I just don't know what's trendy anymore. Any tips?

I like those Nike AF1 platforms, LookItsMeAgain.

Husband that is in the know says it’s all about Adidas Gazelles at the moment if you want a nice low profile trainer

love these. bought them as a 90s teen because Kate Moss wore them all the time.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/02/2023 22:50

I really like Adidas Astir or Ozelia at the moment - really chunky. I still love my Stans and Continental 80s though!

rosyvalentine · 18/02/2023 23:19

I love my New Balance 574+ platforms. They are so comfortable! Currently considering a pair of NB 327s. New Balance definitely seems to be the brand of the moment.

Ruthietuthie · 18/02/2023 23:23

With @Eatglass I just bought a pair of Reebok classics, exactly like I used to wear in the late 1990s...
I don't think they are very trendy but there is something about them that feels just right. I've been searching for the perfect white trainer and I think this is it.

EasterIssland · 18/02/2023 23:36

I have a pair of hoff and they’re quite comfy.

I’d like some white ones but worried of them getting dirty

Hartlebury · 19/02/2023 00:09

Those tigers look like old ASICS and cheap Lonsdale had a baby. Good lord, absolutely not.

trainers are a bizarre choice of footwear?

That's a bizarre thing to say.

They seemed an odd choice to me when they became mainstream, every day footwear. Trainers were sportswear when I was a teenager and even well into adulthood. At university in the late 70s early 80s the practical, comfortable everyday footwear for most people were desert boots, Docs, or boots of some style or plimsolls in summer.

Then there came the trend late 80s of women wearing trainers to walk to work and changing into heels at work. And now they're everywhere. And wearing a sports shoe as every day wear still looks odd to me.

Anybody worn Air & Grace? Keep seeing sponsored posts for them and like the look of them. Tried Veja on today and they just felt so hard.

I've got a pair. They took a bit of breaking in, but I have a wide foot. Comfy now!

journeyofinsanity · 19/02/2023 07:30

@Growlybear83 @QuertyGirl

Having zero interest in fashion tends and wearing what you like is why we have batty women rocking puffed up big hair and bad looking makeup that they felt great in in their 20s and never moved on from.

Is this bad? Nope. Do most people want to be this? Nope.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/02/2023 07:36

I am ambivalent. I wear ASICS when I have to walk a lot and they are good for my feet, but not pretty. I have a pair of dark colored Nike AF1s that wil outlive me by the look of it.
What I object to is the trend for white trainers and one s that appear to be incredibly flimsy mesh. Seem difficult to clean and keep good for any length of time so need replacing more quickly. Bad for the environment, bad for your pocket.

MadameSapphire · 19/02/2023 07:49

Thanks for this, OP. Can someone tell me what the sizing is like for New Balance trainers please? And does the suede get dirty easily? Thanks!

LostidentityM · 19/02/2023 08:19

Op here again, I'm looking for a decent pair to wear with flared jeans or trousers. Ideally not suede, but something a bit chunkier (not spice girls like) than my supergas which are too flat for my flares. Plain colour, ideally white with a bit of colour, so they go with all my bright coats. Just going through the thread now.

I am clueless about what is cool in trainers - I have black Nike internationalists which are my everyday go to, and an ancient pair of Asics which are falling apart but I still wear. I've just bought a new pair of Asics Lyte classics, which I'm in love with. I don't know if it's 'trendy' or not, but Asics just suit my feet, they are supremely comfortable.

Thanks to this thread I have started to covet those NB 237/327s though...

So, don't buy the mesh ones. Wear white ones on streets not in muddy woods. Problem solved

I used to have a pair, they came up quite big.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/02/2023 08:58

@journeyofinsanity I don't buy or wear things inappropriately. I wasn't talking about my own buying, but more broadly - if this is what it's in fashion/in the shops it potentially leads to increased waste & consumption because things don't last so long.

Wiennetta · 19/02/2023 09:00

I don’t wear trainers much - I live in Scotland, and have a dog, so I am often walking in muddy parks. My day to day shoes are boots. But… how can someone not understand that trainers are a practical choice for lots of other people? A lot of my friends’ day to day lives are walking on pavements to and from the shops/work/school drop off etc. Not walking through mud. If it’s torrential rain, yes maybe you need waterproof shoes like wellies, but that’s hardly every day is it?

Wiennetta · 19/02/2023 09:00

Sorry, completely off the topic of the thread.

SilentBob · 19/02/2023 09:03

I have Puma Mayze chunky trainers. Loads of colours to choose from, mostly muted but some bright. I couldn't tell you if they're in or not but I like them!

i have new balance 327s and I love them. They are true to size and so comfortable. The suede is a total pain though and I have only been able to wear them when it’s not raining - they are not shoes to wear on a muddy walk they would get absolutely ruined.

I also have silver converse, white supergas and white Air Force 1s. The latter have been stolen by my 12 yo DD.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/02/2023 09:16

i really like the Mexico 66! Also like Nike blazer, dunk, internationalist and Adidas continental.
gazelles and samba just remind me too much of school in the 90s!

hopeishere · 19/02/2023 09:42

I have new balance that are like slippers they're so comfy.

I still wear addidas Stan Smiths. I don't care if they're trendy.

Orangeslemon · 19/02/2023 10:07

At the moment I’d say Adidas Gazelles, Adidas Sambas, New Balance (various styles) & Nike Dunk Lows (especially the black & white ‘panda’ colourway) are the ‘trend’ trainers.

I'm currently deliberating between New Balance 327s & 237s. I prefer the 237s looks-wise but the 327s get rave reviews for comfort on here which is probably more important as looking for something i can wear all day wandering in the city. Anyone with both able to comment on how they compare?
