Trainers again - what's cool?

LostidentityM · 18/02/2023 07:04

I have white canvas supergas as a go to, plus multicoloured flyknit Nike for day wear. I'm looking for something stylish and more white/plain to wear with flares or pastel clothes. I just don't know what's trendy anymore. Any tips?

Some odd comments in this thread. I struggle to think of more practical and comfortable footwear than trainers.

The Reebok classics posted above are VERY tempting….

I need to stay off S&B, I don’t even need new trainers lol

They all look exactly the same to me- lots of rubber and random stripes.

I like a trainer thread. Posters get very passionate about different brands and styles but I can't see the difference between any of them.

It's interesting to read with the comfort of knowing I don't risk being tempted to buy anything.

I agree with both of you. I have awkward feet and wear some insanely comfortable Nike trainers (I couldn't tell you which ones they are) and some Remonte ones. I have some Skechers Trail walking shoes as well.

I suspect that if you removed the logos from all the trainers that some of the S & B afficionados sneer at they would be less snobby about them.

Fashionistas hate Skechers, but some of them look very similar to the much lauded brands on here if you removed the S logo.

€4,762.95 EUR

I searched the image and found this.

As they're out of stock possibly someone is daft enough to pay that price.

This!

"On trend" is a bit secondary school

Agreed, I can't be arsed working out what my trainers might signify to random people who care about trends. There's rarely a consensus among those people anyway, as this thread makes evident.

I have various pairs I love and find comfortable, mostly Novesta. My dodgy ankles never roll over in them and the colours hit a good satisfying spot for me.

I think there's an error on the website somewhere as the main page shows all the footwear prices as €3000 - €5000+ but when I click through to individual products the prices are normal/reasonable. Weird!

FlashDash · 18/02/2023 13:23

Depends on your age. Over 40 or from East London? Vejas and New balances are apparently "trendy".

Under 40? Nike dunk low's.

Newnamefornewyear2023 · 18/02/2023 13:26

Can anyone comment on which of these trainers might be better for slightly wider feet?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 13:28

I'm not really a trainers person but every few years develop a yearning for a particular pair. I can feel an Adidas Samba (black) yearning coming over me

They all look like the cheap ones in supermarkets so what's the point?

Get soggy and grey as soon as it rains as well.

Bizarre choice of shoes for everyday wear

trainers are a bizarre choice of footwear?

That's a bizarre thing to say.

QuertyGirl · 18/02/2023 13:37

@Rainbowshit

Yes. Decent leather shoes, well cared for are waterproof in all but monsoon weather

Trainers are like sponges in the wet

I'd say the only thing that is bizarre is your opinion.

JerkintheMerkin · 18/02/2023 13:40

I bought a pair of Nike Blazers Mid 77s and have finally found my trainer. Soooo comfy, don't look bulky on my stick legs and can wear with skirts, dresses or trousers.

Ha ha. No. My daughter comes home with her decent leather school shoes squelching sometimes.

I had never heard of Onitsuko Tigers until yesterday when I googled the trainers I'd seen everyone wearing. They're everywhere, especially the Mexico 66.

And they're lovely. I'm in my 50s and I love fashionable trainers as I can't wear heels any more after a bad ankle break. Just bought a pair of Hoffs for spring and I love them.

We all love different things. I don't know why some people are so sneery.

Sadlifter · 18/02/2023 14:01

I've just bought some emerald green Adidas sambas with red stripes. Love them.

Same. I don't like or wear trainers so I know I'm being a rubbernecker on these kinds of threads, which is not an attractive quality. But I'm always fascinated when an item of clothing that's supposed to be the epitome of comfort and practicality becomes a signifier of who is and isn't cool. It reminds me very much of the battle of denim brands in the late 90s/early noughties. (What happened to Earl?)

Casualbrowser21 · 18/02/2023 14:21

Adidas gazelles :)

rockpoolingtogether · 18/02/2023 14:23

Well I don't like any of these! I found a pair I liked and clicked on shuh but they were child sizes.

QuertyGirl · 18/02/2023 14:29

@Floisme

Me too. I don't understand it at all but it is fascinating (even though I don't think they're at all practical).

RoseHarper · 18/02/2023 14:33

I like Saucony, great colours!

Divebar2021 · 18/02/2023 14:39

I don’t think there’s one brand or model which epitomises coolness and if there was the cool people would immediately stop wearing them. As to their practicality- perhaps if you live in a very rainy part of the world there are better choices but down in the South East where I am it’s not that wet they’re a great choice ( to my mind). If you want to have a look at a smaller range check out & Other Stories who always offer something interesting. No necessarily super cool but then most of us are not super cool anyway… but nicely curated and wearable styles.

Tatiani · 18/02/2023 15:13

I quite like HOFF. Another brand I‘ve come across is M.Moustache - they make colourful trainers similar to HOFF.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 18/02/2023 15:36

Went shopping in Liverpool this morning and most people seemed to wearing either New Balance or Nike air Jordan’s. I’m after some new trainers so now keep noticing what everyone is wearing.

Christabel23 · 18/02/2023 15:51

It's Veja, Veja, Veja around here, all the mums and older kids are wearing them. I love my New Balance 327 as I walk a lot and they're unbelievably comfortable. I'm not from East London as per previous poster but am over 40! One of my uni age teenagers also wears New Balance, the other prefers Converse. The one in Converse sometimes has sore feet but the one in New Balance doesn't!

RampantIvy · 18/02/2023 16:13

I have no idea what brand of trainers people round here wear. The brand isn't always obvious.
