Why is a proper cool toned lipstick so hard to find these days?

Anything with a hint of warmth is useless on me and makes me look very 'odd' 🙄 Even MAC doesn't have anything suitable, they're all too warm or too nude.

I got a Bourjois one this morning which I think will be ok, properly pink.

Primark used to be fantastic for lip crayons which were fantastic pinky nudes but no more 🙄

Am I missing somewhere obvious I should be looking? Even Rimmel Asia is no good for me but Soft Hearted is.

Test the shade on your finger pad which will be the same tone as your lips, it's a good way of seeing of it looks right. If it doesn't suit ,it just looks wrong-tip from Bobbi Brown.

I need cool colours as I'm pale with pink undertones so need a blue based lippy. I also have thin lips so can't wear anything too dark as I look hard.

That's me,I don't know how you tell of you are neutral/warm.

Thank you!

My foundation needs to have a yellow tint to it so I guess that's connected too?

This is giving me a good excuse to wander around the beauty counters!

I just bought one from Victoria Beckham called Jump, described as a mid tone cool rose. It’s the best my lips but better lipstick I’ve ever bought. I’m pale cool toned with dark hair and definitely post menopausal lips.

If your foundation has a yellow tone then I'd say you're warm toned. My foundation is generally cool ivory or cool vanilla or beige rose etc. So I'm cool toned (pink) with a hint of beige.

Ah, @MistyRock might have explained it- I'm pink skinned but yellow freckled. Maybe that's why I don't quite fit.

I've always paid attention to foundation tones but just guessed with lipsticks. It makes sense that the two are connected. I'm not sure why I didn't make the connection?!

Some people ( not me) like a yellow foundation to counteract the coolness in pink skin. Sorry to confuse matters even more 🤣

I have loads of brown freckles! I've often been matched to darker foundations but I prefer matching to my actual skin tone. My favourite foundation at the moment is Lancome teint miracle in beige ivorie. It's light enough to show my freckles but also gives me a bit of cover where needed.

I really really cannot get on board with the yellow foundation trend. It looks terrible imo. I just hate it so much.

I adore these two colours from the new Avon hydramatic lipsticks, in viola grey (right) and mauve. They are extremely wearable and look more natural on the lips than they would appear to.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/02/2023 11:03

Viola grey looks great!

If you use a yellow toned foundation that’s going to be at odds with a cool toned lipstick!

nickyschof · 06/02/2023 11:22

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor it really is beautiful on.

I've got cool to neutral skin with warm tones in my hair and it makes finding foundations and lipsticks awkward.

My solution is having two shades of appropriate lightness foundation that both blend well, one properly cool and the other more towards neutral and selecting which one I wear based on my lipstick/blush/outfit colours.

Me too. I’ve got olive skin with red highlights in my hair but I’m definitely cool based.

l tend to mix lipsticks.

That is a beautiful lipstick. I have a l'oréal one like that and one from the Polish brand Bell. I've really been drawn to these shades for a while now.

The Maybelline magic eye concealer sponge thing in 'fair 03' is a perfect match for me. Would anyone care to comment whether that's cool or warm? Pink or yellow?

To me, looking on Google, fair is the pinkest out of them all. If it suits your overall colouring then you are definitely cool.

MistyRock · 06/02/2023 15:26

Actually on one website selling them, it describes fair as being very light, neutral.

nickyschof · 06/02/2023 15:30

This is the shade mauve.

picklemewalnuts · 06/02/2023 15:31

I barely blend it. I use it on blemishes and around my eyes. Pat the edges and it blends right in. I don't use foundation with it.

picklemewalnuts · 06/02/2023 15:32

They're both lovely, Nicky.
I'd probably use the viola one most.
