Smells way too overpowering and sweetsy when I put it on but it has faded to something more pleasant!

LizzieSiddal · 23/12/2022 10:34

@RoxieLoxy i tried it and unfortunately it did nothing for me. I’m 57 so maybe I’m beyond hope! It may work for younger eyes.

notanicepersonapparently · 23/12/2022 10:58

M&S Fragrance Society hand and nail cream 30ml today. I can’t find this one for sale on their website but based on other ones in this range 30ml would be under Β£2. Our running total is now Β£250.
Although the scent is described as Poppy, Peony and Pearl Barley the fragrance notes mention Lily of the Valley, so perhaps that is what is mostly coming through. There was a thread on here about enjoying β€˜Granny’ things, and this has that kind of comforting old fashioned vibe.

HeySeamus · 23/12/2022 17:44

I do not like the smell of this one at all. Way too overpowering for me but I'll pass on to my mum.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 23/12/2022 19:37

I love M&S Fragrance Society products & have used their hand creams before so I'm very happy with today's offering!

CointreauVersial · 23/12/2022 20:31

I get through tons of hand cream, and if it smells nice it will definitely be used.

RoxieLoxy · 23/12/2022 21:26

@LizzieSiddal I'm not sure it works now either. I mean, how can it? It would have to be stronger than the muscles that lift our eyebrows. I nearly believed it though!!

I like today's although it is quite strong.

I got impatient and peeked at tomorrow's (!!). My DD managed to stop me looking at number 25 though 🀣🀣

I won't comment on number 24 now of course. I'm just wondering though - can we expect number 25 to be the best or most expensive product?

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 24/12/2022 06:15

Well this is underwhelming, and there's no way we'll hit the promised Β£300.

Don't think I'll bother next year, on the whole this has been pretty disappointing.

Falalalalalal · 24/12/2022 06:40

Today’s is rubbish. Very disappointing for Christmas Eve

TheBelmont · 24/12/2022 07:00

It’s another one of those…meh…I’m sure I’ll use it but I don’t find it very interesting.

TheBelmont · 24/12/2022 07:08

I’ve also gone ahead and opened 25 since everyone else in my family advent calendars only go up to 24 and there was outrage when they saw I still had one left πŸ˜‚.
no spoilers….but I’ve enjoyed the journey with you all! Overall I might give it a year or two before doing it again…or might try one of the pricier ones next year with more full size products.
there’s probably 2 or 3 things I might get full size from this box (I really like the ren eye cream, nuxe powdery base and the this works close up ready cream). The peach crayon was a miss although I liked the texture so may buy in a different colour. Also did not like the Tweed rip off perfume or the super smelly hand cream yesterday or the gold nail polish but everything else was either useful or interesting and will be used at some point! Overall a hit from me…for Β£40 I can’t grumble! I’ve enjoyed the anticipation every morning!

notanicepersonapparently · 24/12/2022 08:37

A useful spf lip balm by ultrasun today worth Β£8 bringing the total to Β£258. Even if we don’t quite get to the promised total by my calculations (and I have had to make some assumptions) then it’s been fabulous value for Β£40. It’s a much higher multiple than the other calendars I’ve looked at.

I tried the elastisier and shampoo and conditioner yesterday and loved them. The only misses for me were the eye liner and red nail varnish although I see they would be good products for a lot of people.
last day tomorrow 😒

RoxieLoxy · 24/12/2022 08:39

Gah I'm going to let myself open 25 too. I've got Covid again (had it last Christmas too). Feeling rubbish and sorry for myself and my family so I'll have 25 now. Plus yes 24 is a big let down and not something I'll use.

I've liked and will use most things so I do plan to get this one next year too if it's around the same price. Happy to have found the Nuxe powdery cream which I'd have never tried otherwise.

RoxieLoxy · 24/12/2022 08:41

And thanks @notanicepersonapparently for keeping track of the value. Definitely well worth the cost.

TokyoSushi · 24/12/2022 08:48

Just allowed myself to also open number 25 too!

I have liked but not loved this years, I might save up and buy a slightly fancier one next Christmas. I have loved the anticipation every morning though!

Countmeout · 24/12/2022 09:03

24 is in every years as far as I know. I have a stash of these which I give out to family going on holiday, I opened 25 too . I looked at the label and found out what it was. Much preferred the earlier days. They should have let us fill it, I think we could have done better. I do like the Lumene and the hair stuff.

Yes thank you @notanicepersonapparently . Happy enough to have paid Β£40 as the value is much more.

I bought last years and really enjoyed it after a gap of a couple of years but will have to think hard if I want this one next year. It’s the only calendar I have this year and it’s been a little underwhelming some days.

Neversaygoodbye · 24/12/2022 09:45

Not the most exciting today but still a useful product. I've really enjoyed this years as I haven't bought the M&S one for a few years, it's nice to have a range of products and I think the value is good.

TheBelmont · 24/12/2022 09:50

Yes bravo @notanicepersonapparently thank you for keeping us up to date on value! Cheers! πŸ₯‚

lbnblbnb · 24/12/2022 10:51

24 is a good product, have used it before and will use it in the summer but it seems a bit....utilitarian for Christmas Eve?

Am going to keep 25 for tomorrow. Kids (15 and 21) unlikely to be us early so will have some time when DH goes to look after his DM tomorrow morning to myself. Will open it then.

PatChauncey · 24/12/2022 11:19

Today's is quite boring, but is the only lip balm with SPF that doesn't have a horrible taste, so I will use it.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 24/12/2022 12:22

Underwhelmed by today’s - I agree it’s a bit utilitarian for Christmas Eve - but I expect I’ll use it when summer comes. I’ve enjoyed following this thread, anyway!

AnnieSnap · 24/12/2022 12:26

I have had 3 advent calendars this year, M&S, NUXE and Lookfantastic. I have enjoyed them all, but for great value M&S knocks the others out of the park. I have really enjoyed it (although someone needs a serious talking to about today’s) and the box is much better than the others and useable after the event.

Brilliant lip balm to wear whilst running and as I'm marathon training from1st Jan, this will go straight into my running belt.

Good idea - adding it to my running belt in a moment.

GlomOfNit · 24/12/2022 13:36

Xmas Grin of all the underwhelming, unfun things they could have put in Christmas Eve ....! Oh well. I'm less than halfway through last year's identical lip balm. I have lip balms in the car, in all bags and some coat pockets so I'm sure I'll find a use for this - or maybe just pass it on. But jeez M&S, could this not have gone in on the 14th or something? Grin

Agree we're unlikely to top the Β£300 advertised value which is a bit rubbish of them, though obviously this is still very good value. I preferred last year's though (or was that because it was my first time?). Though personally, having missed getting one in store, I bought mine on ebay for about Β£65 Shock!

I did crack and try the peachy lip stain thing that I'd set aside for passing on, and now quite like it (if blotted half off!) so that's ok.
