Agree on Camilla’s tiara - nice to see some colour and that blue does suit her very nicely, but the piece itself is rather ugly. Very clumsy looking.

Kate would have looked fantastic in that dress with the fringe tiara!

I like Sophie's dress, it's nothing fancy but I like how she looks in it. I bet we don't get any good photos of her though.

Camilla’s lost some weight I think. Her face is looking quite thin.

Not the tiaras I was hoping for, but I think Camilla, Kate and Sophie all look lovely. At least the Duchess of Gloucester pulled out her gorgeous Cartier Indian tiara…

Maybe now the first post-QE2 tiara event is done and dusted they’ll feel able to break out of their sparkly ruts a bit. Camilla in the Belgian sapphire tiara is definitely giving me hope!

As an aside, I see Johannes Radebe, one of the Strictly pros, was invited to the State dinner. I wonder if either of Oti or Motsi Mabuse were also on the guest list, as they too are South African? Camilla and Kate are apparently both big Strictly fans 😀

I actually think they all look pretty silly really, done up in their dressing up costumes. Never really felt like that before. It's all seemed quite regal and fitting previously but something about this just seems quite ridiculous. Probably cos Liz has gone now. Anyway, less about that and back to the fashion....

I think Kate looks BLOODY GORGEOUS! Bravo! Yes, the blusher could be a bit reined in and yes she could go a bit more tiara glam (but maybe she's worried about backlash in times of austerity when the rest of us can only dream about such bonkers valuable jewels!)

I'm disappointed Rishi's wife didn't wear a tiara. If I had her money no amount of negative publicity could prevent me from wearing a tiara for an event like this! I'm sure they could have loaned one from Cartier (eg) like Carrie liked to rent dresses.

They already own the bling so may as well use it. I don't think Kate can be too worried about backlash or she wouldn't have bought a new dress for the occasion!

Kate needs to make a different tiara her own signature one now. One that isn't all about Diana. Poor girl even wears Diana's ring.. there's nothing wrong with remembering Williams mother of course, but she's POW in her own right now. As such she should be able to make her own mark.

The tiara didn't belong to Diana, it was on loan to her. It belonged to QE2. Diana wore others as well.

But it's got Diana written all over it, and every time she wear it out come the Diana references.

True, but it’s undeniably linked with Diana. It’s the one that many think of as her signature tiara. I agree that Kate needs another one.

Yes the papers go on about it every single time. I’d like to see one that has no link at all. That Kate can wear in her own right, as Princess of Wales.

I really like Camilla's outfit tonight and live that she's gone for a coloured stone tiara for a change. Kate looks fab, that dress makes quite the statement.....like she took one look at Charlene's Star Wars nun dress and thought 'I can do better than that!'

I actually think it was restrained and respectful that they mainly wore their 'go to' pieces. Too soon for eager rummaging in the vault.

@themessygarden it’s Queen Elizabeth’s family order, given at the Monarch’s discretion to senior women in the Royal Family. Elizabeth used to wear her grandfather and father’s orders, now Anne, Kate, Camilla, Sophie and Princess Alexandra etc ear the Queen’s, having been given it in her lifetime. Charles obviously hasn’t issued any yet.
