Fingers crossed for some good festive style!

Not a fan of the black and white photography. But Kate looks great in the shot! She’s very elegant.

At the risk of sounding like the thread police, I have noticed that there have been some mention of these fashion threads on some of the threads that tend more to personal criticism of members of the Royal Family and others. I am also noticing quite a few new posters on these threads.

These fashion threads are discussion of the clothes. Obviously sometimes that reflects on choices that individuals have made. But anyone who wants to focus criticism on the individuals wearing the clothes, unfortunately, has plenty of other opportunities to do that on other threads.

I agree. This is not a thread for arguing, making things personal about certain people, or getting het up about opposing camps and so on. That’s been in the roolz for a long time.

That dress wouldn't be my favourite, but it is interesting to see some more unusual choices in recent weeks.
I loved Queen Mary's fashion sense, not that I remember her personally. It must be amazing to have access to all the jewellery.

When reading about the times Diana wore the choker, I learned something I never knew before - Diana would switch out her sapphire engagement ring for a totally different cocktail ring from time to time, if she was wearing stones that she considered didn’t match it.

I imagine it would cause all sorts of unpleasant speculation if Kate were to do that, but I’d love to see some more of the lovely rings in the royal vault. QEII wore gloves all the time, so they never got seen.

According to the comments section of NMR guests were asked to attend the gala in ‘not new’ attire and only vegan make up. No idea if that is true. But if it was it might account for the different look for Kate.

I'm not a fan of neon green but I thought the whole look was magnificent.

It’s nice to see some fresh bling brought out too. I prefer the choker worn as a choker than the headband Diana wore.

According to the Mail, Diana wore it as a choker after finding her nose was too big for it to go over her head.....interesting. I always thought it was because when she was getting dressed they realised they'd forgotten to take a tiara.

Well said Seneca we self-police these threads really well and when things do wobble a bit it's usually when we have a flurry of new posters it seems. Critique the clothes not the women wearing them has been the motto from the beginning.

Kate has green eyes so the choker might've looked great as a headband but that could have been a bit Star Trek.

Some one uothread mentioned a Diplomat Reception. When and where is that?

That's a gown and tiara reception that is usually private so we never see photos of it apart from the royals in their cars. But I think there might've been a photographer at the last one?

It's in a few weeks. I was talking to someone a few days ago who will be working at it. It's white tie but usually
Closed for photos.

Crowns to be used in the coronation next year

Charles better start building up his neck muscles in advance as those crowns will weigh a ton! Even the late queen admitted as much.

Read recently that Diana had a bad headache on her wedding day because of the tiara. The thought of a crown is pretty daunting. I wonder if and where they get to practice wearing one. Think I'd be in my dressing gown wombling around at night to break it in.

I love those crowns. 😍I like the white one better. It shines more. The yellow one, though, reminds me ones we used to make as children with fruit gums for jewels. But it's very regal.
I can't wait to see what they all wear that day.

@justasking111 I’m sure I’ve seen Charles on a programme saying that he remembers being in the nursery as a child and HMQ wandering about practicing wearing her crown.

I don't know if he said it or not, but I'm sure that was in an episode of The Crown.

I thought the reason Diana wore the choker as a headband was because she was sunburnt on her shoulders and it was too sore wearing it on them? I think it was the Australian tour - that's what I remember from the time anyway (yes I am old)!

...and I think he was in the bath. But I might have imagined that. NOT that I spend time imagining Charles in a bath. ☺ 🙈
