I have been musing on the new emerald earrings that Kate wore last night with the emerald choker. They are quite delicate drop earrings, with a round emerald suspended in a diamond circle. A good match for the cabochon emeralds in diamond circles on the choker … but also a good match with the Grenville emerald tiara that Eugenie wore for her wedding maybe?

The main emerald tiara in the vault is of course the Vladimir, which is pretty much reserved for the Queen. QEII mostly wore it with big emerald drop earrings, and indeed most of the emerald earring options are large drop styles. The Delhi Durbar earrings are (relatively) simpler cabochon and diamond studs, but likely Camilla will use those ones too? ( her ears aren’t pierced, apparently).

Anyway, it seems likely that the new earrings were acquired to be worn with other emerald jewellery. Maybe we’ll see something exciting at the Diplomatic reception?

Better with photos! Wouldn’t these look nice together…

@Serenster you're just missing a stonking right hand ring and an exquisite bracelet for the full set. Grin

MotherofPearl · 03/12/2022 14:10

I love all those emeralds together @Serenster. Just needs my Wallis Simpson's beautiful and enormous emerald ring to complete the look.

I am a republican but I like Kate. She has such a beautiful face and figure and really lovely hair, but the entire green outfit is a definite no from me. I was rather disappointed by it all tbh. I think it's better to wear something a bit more regal and princessy in the States rather than try and play them at their own game and come up short.

Don't get me wrong, I couldn't fit one of my thighs in that sheath style, so I applaud her for giving it a go, but I just don't think the shape or style did her any favours. And how that is possible when she has such an amazing figure I don't know!

The underwear wasn't right (sorry Kate). Her make up was too heavy or applied incorrectly. It made her look what my mother used to call "a bit brassy" (sorry again Kate). And there was something about the choker that looked wrong and I can't work out what it is! And that's one amazing chunk of jewellery!

And green for Earthshot! Come on! Who is advising her?

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 03/12/2022 16:06

Oh my goodness! I hope Catherine isn't reading some of these comments! To be honest after the things that have happened over the past few days and what has been said about her, I'm amazed she got dressed up and made an appearance at all! think I'd have hid under the covers and refused to come out.
I know when I'm upset about anything, I need more make up than normal as stress shows in my face.
Personally I thought she looked fantastic when she must have been really struggling and wondering why she bothers.

I was expecting green but the organisers could've told her the carpet would be almost exactly the same colour as her dress!

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 03/12/2022 16:32

I never feel I can comment on clothes, hair or jewellery because I know nothing about any of them. However, I think she looks amazing. She stays in great shape, impeccably groomed and I can't imagine how you keep putting yourself out there again and again with a smile on your face.

(In her shoes (ha!) with all of yesterday's news, I'd have been curled up on the sofa under a quilt stuffing myself with chocolate).

KillingMeDeftly · 03/12/2022 16:36

I have to say I find it a bit odd that the media are saying how great it is that she rented the green dress when almost everything else she's worn this trip was brand new. Including green coat number 15!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 03/12/2022 16:53

I don’t think anyone’s been unkind about Kate! We’re all very much about discussing/dissecting/analysing/critiquing fashion, without being disparaging about the individual, their looks or their body. A caution/plea against too much intervention isn’t a bad thing, imo.

She always looks fantastic. Her make up will have been done with very bright lighting in mind, too, which often means a tendency toward a little (or a lot) too harsh.

frugalkitty · 03/12/2022 17:03

I think she should have reworn a frock rather than renting one for Earthshot. She has so many fab gowns that could easily be reworked/tweaked which would have suited the 'green' theme. But then she's in an unenviable position, whatever she does she has people who love it and people who don't. I'm just glad she wasn't in another Per Una Erdem frocky horror.

themessygarden · 03/12/2022 17:17

i thought she looked absolutely stunning, the jewellery was just the perfect accessory for the dress.

I have no issue with anyone doing botox, it's run of the mill now, like getting gel nails, but I do wish she would do something about the botox eyebrow. Her Dr. must be able to adjust the dose to prevent it, because it's happening to her regularly now.

CrinchyGrinchy · 03/12/2022 17:21

I hate to say it but I think Kate looks dreadful in the green dress. It was entirely the wrong colour for her - far too bright, was poorly cut and did nothing for her body shape. She's an inverted triangle and should stay away from designs that make her appear wider across the top shoulders. She just looks unbalanced and with no shape to her in that dress. The chocker didn't go with it at all. Too straight across on both the dress and the chocker, and the tones of green clashed.

And don't even get me started on her makeup. It was way too heavy and dark. Her eyebrows also look much darker and thicker (not sure if they actually were or not).

I feel like the stylist and makeup artist on the occasion need to be fired. They've aged her 15years

lipstickwoman · 03/12/2022 17:24

I really hope she's not on Mumsnet.

HeddaGarbled · 03/12/2022 17:57

I think Kate looks dreadful in the green dress

Oh, she does not! The dress may not be to your taste, you may even think the dress is “dreadful” but that remark is uncalled for.

Come on now, let’s not tip over the edge into nastiness on this thread. Plenty of other threads and places for that.

Quarique · 03/12/2022 18:00

I think the earrings are from Garrards. I really like them.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 03/12/2022 18:04

I really hope she's not on Mumsnet.

Me too. Also, some of you are judging her on a close-up, but she'll have dressed and had make-up done for the bright lights, camera lights (like stage make-up) and being visible in a huge auditorium.

RomainingCalm · 03/12/2022 18:40

I love this photo that was on their Instagram page. It's the Earthshot rehearsal and looks like the orange dress and boots.

MarshaMelrose · 03/12/2022 18:41

I'm not the biggest fan of her style although I think shes worn some great stuff on this trip. But she never looks dreadful. She's got a lovely figure - I never saw anyone whose figure looked so great from every angle - , she carries herself well, she's pretty, got a lovely smile and gorgeous hair.
With all that going for her, I dont see how anyone can say she looks dreadful.

frugalkitty · 03/12/2022 18:52

I agree that from the neck up she never looks dreadful, but she's definitely worn some dreadful frocks. In my opinion, anyway. I also agree with the poster who said that Kate has the hair while Meghan has the skin. I'd love to know how Meghan has such flawless skin (probably didn't have a galaxy ripple and Diet Coke for breakfast this morning for a start)

Charlene and Charlotte took Jacques and Gabriella to a Christmas village. The children are so cute! Charlotte's coat is a bit loose for my taste, but she still looks gorgeous. It's so nice to see Charlene looking well and happy. Navy coat and black polo neck. Very nice.

Is Kates stylist (Natasha Archer) a proper stylist or is she a friend who has fallen into the role?

The mismatch of the emerald necklace and the dress and the green dress for "earth" just seem so basic.

gluenotsoup · 03/12/2022 19:17

I think Kate’s done a great job style wise on this trip. She must have felt under huge pressure at times, but has looked as relaxed as she could. I personally think she has made a bold choice, and it worked. For me, the emeralds do match, as would other choices. She looks fab! A rented dress can’t be tweaked in the same way with the tailoring, but it still fits very well. Seen in video clips rather than stills, she looks great, stands out, doesn’t blend with the carpet and the heavier make up worked from a distance with the bright lights, much like stage makeup for dancers.

MarshaMelrose · 03/12/2022 19:23

I don't get the jewellery didn't go with the dress. That jewellery goes with everything. 🤩 I'd never take it off if it was mine. It'd look lovely with jeans and sweatshirt.

lipstickwoman · 03/12/2022 19:27

Any coloured gem would rarely be worn if it had to perfectly match what it was being worn with.

Including her engagement ring!
