Kate looks lovely, I like her hat (and no droopy hair). Camilla looks quite subdued, in other years she's worn a huge cluster of flamboyant silk poppies and a hat smothered in black ostrich feathers, so she's much more restrained this year.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 13/11/2022 12:03

I wonder if Camilla is feeling quite exhausted after funeral/aftermath and getting used to a new way of life with ramped up expectations...she’s older than Charles. I suppose she might also be getting used to dressing for her new role since how one presents becomes even more crucial to others’ perceptions. Quite a burden to bear (with many rewards, of course).

PrincessJanet · 13/11/2022 12:14

Maybe they've been watching The Crown and found it as gruelling as I have.

Oh I like it a lot. I think if I were Kate I’d stop at 10. That means you can switch through quite a few without repeating too often. But if I actually were Kate I’ve got to be honest and say I probably wouldn’t stop at 10...because I love fashion, and I absolutely adore a beautiful coat!

But how soon before one can start recycling the ones worn to very significant occasions ie funerals of Prince Phillip and Her Majesty The Queen?

I loved what she wore to Prince Phillip's funeral, I think she has the same in red. Such a shame to leave it hidden at the back of the wardrobe. But I feel those particular outfits may never see the light of day again.

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/11/2022 12:25

I love that coat but the amount of new wears we see is bloody ridiculous.

No amount of Mango dresses and earrings from Accessorise is going to balance the sheer waste of money on similar clothes.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 13/11/2022 12:36

It’s their money to waste though. Any other very rich person would have that many coats or more and no one would bat an eyelid. It doesn’t bother me, really. It’s ridiculous for them to try to pretend they’re just your average person. They’re not. I admire frugality, greatly! But I don’t begrudge the wealthy their spending habits.

Serenster · 13/11/2022 12:53

Also, projecting forward, Kate’s going to have a fair few funerals to attend in the coming years of some of the current working royals, and potential foreign rulers as well (I guess she and William will now be in pole position to represent the King at those). Plus two at least formal Remembrance events every years. I think she had some 6 or 7 formal appearances following the Queen’s death too. One thing she can bet on - she needs a big selection of black clothes.

justasking111 · 13/11/2022 13:12

I think they go to a lot more funerals than the media report. Aristo ones, old retainers, I'm glad the media afford privacy here

hopeishere · 13/11/2022 13:25

I love that coat. Very elegant. There's a nice photo of her and Camilla smiling at each other. I wonder if they get on!

mikado1 · 13/11/2022 14:19

Well, I do judge a little from a sustainability POV, not just the cost, and that includes her green coats but maybe I got out of the wrong side of the bed! Hate the unnecessary waste of it. I don't think she quite looks herself in the pic above, maybe the hair swept under the hat or maybe the makeup, I don't know.

Gooseysgirl · 13/11/2022 14:28

Wasn't going to say anything (in a grumpy mood!!) but seeing as I am not the only one that picked up on yet another new Kate coat... it has actually made me annoyed! We are in the middle of a cost of living crisis ffs... she has loads of black coats, a rewear would have been far more appropriate this year. However... I will concede that it is in fact a gorgeous coat and far nicer than lots of other ones she has. The wide brim hat is very MM - I really like it on Kate too!

KillingMeDeftly · 13/11/2022 14:44

@Gooseysgirl interest that you picked up on that about her hat because I find a lot of Kate's sartorial choices in the past year or so have been very MM!

I agree with all your points in your post.

If anyone Daily Mail pointed out she rewore something, she can play the ecological card.
In these hard economic times it would be more sensitive.

I agree with this post too.

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/11/2022 15:07

I don't mind rich people spending like rich people, I would and I'd enjoy it too.

What I mind is seeing new clothes for nearly every engagement, that's just ridiculous.

Apparently the Palace are only going to comment on her clothes for significant events now because they think there is too much emphasis on what she wears. I'm here so I obviously have an interest (here for the jewellery mostly) but the best way to shift the focus is to work more and to rewear far more often.

mikado1 · 13/11/2022 15:20

Agree with Gooseys and DisforDarkChocolate also. Just no need.

paradyning · 13/11/2022 17:13

Prince Edward's coat was amazing! Floor sweeping

Eaumyword · 13/11/2022 17:22

I like those grey military coats, so smart. I thought PW looked rather nice today.

KillingMeDeftly · 13/11/2022 18:41

Kate's coat is a bespoke version of this raspberry Catherine Walker, which would also suit her for another occasion.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 13/11/2022 18:45

DH was wearing the same hat as William this morning but as it is so warm he didn't wear his great coat just his dress uniform. The other school run mums are always impressed with how well he scrubs up on Remembrance Sunday (I never point out that most of the time that he is in uniform it's cammo print 'pyjamas').

Eaumyword · 13/11/2022 19:01

I like the raspberry version!

gluenotsoup · 13/11/2022 19:26

I really liked today’s coat, she usually wears a military themed style for today, so it was nice change. I agree though that she does have some beautiful black coats and outfits, and hopefully we will see some more rewears. I especially liked the one from PP’s funeral.
Its fab in raspberry! Hope she’s got a buy-one-get-one-free deal. 🙂

BeaLola · 13/11/2022 19:26

This is probably a daft question so apologies in advance ... wear for they get the 5 petalled poppies from that they were wearing ? Very different to the standard paper ones you but with the top smaller petal and larger bottom one

LadyEloise1 · 13/11/2022 19:30

BOGOF I like it @gluenotsoup 😂

I don't know about the five petaled ones but I was Scotland last week and they had four petaled ones.
