I thought Letizia was Meghan for a moment there! The dress looks great on her and makes her look like she was once a dancer, if you know what I mean. I think it's something about her posture.

gluenotsoup · 25/10/2022 09:53

I don’t like Mathilde in the pink and blue thing, it just looks odd, but I really like the orange patterned outfit! It’s bold but works.
I do love the boldness I’d the backless dress on Leti too, I can take or leave the flouncy trim but it’s a very elegant look. Not as keen on the fake tan 😂, and although she is very toned she doesn’t have a pretty back if you see what I mean, so I think it could look even better on someone else, maybe one of the scandi royals. I like backs. 😂

NiqueNique · 25/10/2022 09:55

@justasking111 me neither!! I just can’t cope with the patchiness!

I love Mathilde’s orange dress. The other outfit is just awful.

I thought HMQ’s outfit was right out of Queen Mary’s mould too!

LadyEloise1 · 25/10/2022 10:07

Didn't Princess Grace wear something similar to Mathilde's kaftan at one stage ?
Definitely a Princess Grace vibe about it.
Speaking of Princess Grace - doesn't she just embody her name.. she had such luminescence.

Maireas · 25/10/2022 10:10

She did, @LadyEloise1 - such a beautiful woman. She did tend to go for the kaftan look in the late 70s, it was a popular look.
Very Margo.

Leti has that lovely olive Mediterranean skin, surely she doesn't wear fake tan unlike me with my fair Irish skin with accompanying freckles though I'm not red haired. Smile

Maireas · 25/10/2022 10:45

I've noticed that Meghan uses fake tan as well, I'm wondering if perhaps people use it to even up the skin tone, maybe it looks better in pictures?
Leti may have felt her back was a bit pale in comparison. Let's hope Felipe isn't responsible, he'll be in trouble!

Princess Grace did love a kaftan, it is true. Often with incredibly elaborate and sculptured hairstyles too. A very regal look!

Ooh, I like that black and white one. Grace looks like a Roman Empress!

Letizia uses fake tan. And not all Spaniards are olive skinned. I’m sure I am fairer skinned than most people here and I am 100% Spanish.

I do not understand why anybody can say this is normal or nice looking.

Oh my goodness is that just fake tan ? It looks like scarring or maybe it’s just the photo.

I love the photo of HM the late Queen in fur trimmed coat and boots definitely a different look to her usual stye. @Maireas I miss her too, was just saying to my husband yesterday how strange it still feels that she isn’t here.

susiebluebell · 25/10/2022 14:00

What it looks like is the body of an athlete, which is essentially what Leti is with the amount of exercise she clearly does. Catherine also falls into this category. Thinner and more muscly than your average woman, but wouldn't look out of place on an athletics track.

In general I think these threads are better when we don't make personal comments about people's bodies, other than in the style context of whether their outfit is flattering or not. That's part of why I enjoy them.

gluenotsoup · 25/10/2022 14:43

I wasn’t making a personal comment actually, just commenting on the high tone of her back. For what it’s worth my back is also extremely toned due to lifting a disabled teen day in and day out, I personally don’t like it. My comment on clothes and appearances are always positive to neutral, similar to when we have commented on the positivity of her allowing some grey hair to show.

I can really see a resemblance between Stephanie in that photo and Gabriella.

I just read today that Camilla doesn’t have her ears pierced, I’m sure lots of you ladies know this already, but regarding the royal jewellery that is “ communal” lol fir want of a better word, I wondered if it’s a mixture of clips/screws or pierced otherwise I guess she would need to have a pair of earrings altered to wear them. My Mother is the same only wears clips as she cannot bare the thought of pierced ears, personally on the rare occasion I have worn clips they have been excruciating.

gluenotsoup · 25/10/2022 17:57

Ha! Communal jewels indeed, and that’s just our Spreadsheet of Splendour.
Clip on earrings are agony, I agree, I don’t know how anyone can bear to wear them. I’ve only got one set of ear piercings, and don’t much fancy the pain of having any more. Dd has a fake helix earring (not allowed the real thing) and they’re comfortable. I borrow it sometimes to pretend to be cool. 🙂

AdaColeman · 25/10/2022 18:41

There is quite a bit of interest in the diamond and sapphire brooch that Mathilde wore on her arrival in Lithuania, as it hasn't been seen previously.

The style looks nineteenth century, and recently both Mathilde and Princess Elizabeth have worn other unknown pieces in a similar style. There is speculation that they were acquired as part of a bequest, rather like the Greville bequest.
Personally, I had wondered if the brooch had belonged to Mathilde's maternal grandmother, and Mathilde was emphasising her links with Lithuania. No doubt all will be be revealed in the fullness of time!

Think some of them have hooks that go over the top of the ears. Sure I've seen CPV with them before on some heftier pairs

@LaBrujaPiruja , maybe it just didn’t post? That happens to me all the time, usually when I’ve spent ages typing it. I think deleted posts usually have a message confirming it.
@AdaColeman , that’s really interesting about the brooch, I’ll go back for a closer look. @Maireas was on the ball with spotting it was unusual too 🙂
