A sad start to a new thread, but I hope we can celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Regina, what a woman, and what style!

I think they’re allowed to wear hats. It might have been a decision between them - a unified look but also makes it less about fripperies somehow (to my mind, at least).

Someone somewhere coordinated the look not the wearers I suspect

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 13:37

Yes it may well have been made in conjunction with advisors/aides. But I think it’s just as likely to have been a personal decision between them (unless there is a rule that I’m unaware of).

SenecaFallsRedux · 18/09/2022 14:21

There's never been an official title of Queen Consort, but that is how Camilla is referred to on the RF website, so for now it appears to be a de facto title. I wonder if, as the coronation nears, the "Consort" will be dropped. She will be crowned along with Charles, and that might be the appropriate time for her to be simply The Queen.

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 14:23

Yes that’s what I was trying to get at. Would be a sensible way to do it, I think.

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 14:27

On another note, I’m just reading about the 4 horses that will lead HMQ’s funeral procession, ridden by Mounties from Canada. A long and happy collaboration has existed between them over many years and I’m sure the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are incredibly proud. What an honour for the individuals too.

All the details are lovely. The RCMP gifted the Queen one of her favourite horses (Burmese) which she rode at Trooping The Colour for 18 years, and was the horse she was riding when the blanks were fired from the crowd in 1981.

This will be a highly personal funeral.

Maireas · 18/09/2022 15:04

I remember her riding Burmese, that was a wonderful horse - even when shots were fired!

Yes HMQ recovered control very well indeed - a testament to her character, and to that of the horse!

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 15:21

And while riding side-saddle too, which strikes me as far trickier than riding the usual way!

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 15:24

Which brings me to another question - who gets her horses and her stables? Surely it has to be Anne? Although Charles can ride I'm not sure he's ever been as much of a horseman (horse person?) as his mother and sister.

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 15:25

Yes indeed, I expect it is! I should have said it’s a testament to HMQ’s equestrian skills too.

European royals are paying respects in Westminster Hall.

paradyning · 18/09/2022 16:21

This is a fab picture of the hurrahs resting. What a great job they've done.

Bloody hell. Guards resting

paradyning · 18/09/2022 16:41

Think that was Olena Zelenska. Not sure who the lady next to her was though.

Serenster · 18/09/2022 16:44

I thought that’s who it was too, paradyning.

Serenster · 18/09/2022 16:46

A quick google later, it looks like she was with the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, Vadim Prystaiko, and his wife.

gluenotsoup · 18/09/2022 17:05

I thought the same! Hive mind

hopeishere · 18/09/2022 17:38

Leti has been to the lying in state looking very elegant.

RomainingCalm · 18/09/2022 18:10

@Maireas That is a fabulous photo of the guards resting. From a distance it does rather look like tea-break at a Father Christmas convention though.

Leti looks stunning, I love that black dress with the floral detail. Just seen Queen Rania of Jordan (I think) being interviewed who looks stunningly elegant. Dr Jill's dress is an unusual choice, not sure I like it very much.

Maireas · 18/09/2022 18:14

I thought the same about a Santa convention. Haven't seen Dr Biden.

OP posts:
Serenster · 18/09/2022 18:34

There are photos of the Bidens at Westminster Hall in the Mail (I won’t link). And also a photo of Kate meeting Olena Zelenska (they had met before, with their respective husbands in 2020 before the war).

It looks like Kate is wearing the same bow-necked coat dress she wore to Phillip’s funeral to tonight’s reception.
