What clothes items do you like but can't pull off wearing?

What are the items of clothing you'd like to wear but can't really pull off, or if you do, you need to make alterations to your look so it works.

For me - it's always been a crisp white shirt. Either it's too white or just too clean a look for me, I have worn it in the past.

I ordered this the other day because I think it'll look nice on me with the frills and is fairly versatile. First time ordering from Kitri.

I also got a lovely grass green pleather blazer and QED pleather black dress in my favourite local boutique. I'd tried the dress the other day but it was so humid and the blazer is just perfect (not with the dress). I'm not overly a fan of pleather but it really works with these items.

High waisted/mom/boyfriend jeans.

Anything you tuck in :(

TightDiamondShoes · 13/09/2022 15:40

Shorts. My legs are built for pulling heavy machinery across fields - not for being seen by the naked eye.

ShirleyJackson · 13/09/2022 15:41

Trench coats.
Cropped flares.
High waisted jeans.

bluefrog11 · 13/09/2022 15:44

Jumpsuit/play suit. They do not flatter my pear shaped bottom. I’ve only ever seen tall, slim women look good in them.

Dinoteeth · 13/09/2022 15:46

Dresses 👗 with a waist, I'm the wrong shape for them. Need to loose some lard.

MintyGreenDreams · 13/09/2022 15:47

Wide legged trousers look shit on me

LaQuern · 13/09/2022 16:04

Peasant style blouses. I think I look all boho and hippy but in fact I look like a fabric balloon

Lampzade · 13/09/2022 16:07

Halter neck tops
i have slim arms but they are flabby despite me exercising like a demon.
I blame my mother. I inherited all the bad parts from her and none of the good parts

FourChimneys · 13/09/2022 16:11

Dungarees. I love them and am slim but look like a badly put together sack of potatoes in them.

isometro · 13/09/2022 16:11

Shapeless, flowy things. Mainly a summer thing, when it's warm I'd love to throw on one of those barely there, floaty, strappy dresses that you can go braless in. Unfortunately I have decent-sized boobs and any clothing without some kind of waist makes me look about 3 sizes bigger than I am.

21secondstogo · 13/09/2022 16:12

I can’t wear high waisted trousers or jeans as I have a short body (only just worked that out) and there is barely a gap between my boobs and the waistband. So not flattering.

FunsizedandFabulous · 13/09/2022 16:12

Dresses too. I am very very pear shaped. So I wear separates.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 13/09/2022 16:18

It would be quicker to list what does suit me to be fair.
But anything tucked in, high necked, tiered, flouncy, shapeless, high waisted, low waisted, bell sleeved, cropped or tunic length can get in the bin for a start.

SatinHeart · 13/09/2022 16:20

Shorts. I'm very pear shaped and 'does my bum look big in this' is an understatement...

carefullycourageous · 13/09/2022 16:20

Another vote for dungarees.

This made me lol. I'm with you on that - I have Proletarian corned beef legs that can walk for miles without flagging, but are not by any stretch of the imagination, things of beauty. Asked my husband to describe them and after a very loaded pause he said "...sturdy".

123rd · 13/09/2022 16:23

Cord trousers and maxi dresses.

minipie · 13/09/2022 16:25

Oh gosh so many.

Shorts and short skirts. (Chunky legs)

Anything frilled, flounced, puffed sleeved, tasselled, loudly patterned, loose and floaty, oversized. (I’m petite and these things just drown me).

Skinny jeans. (See: chunky legs). Although I own some anyway, as for a long time it’s all I could buy.

Smilingwithfangs · 13/09/2022 16:25

Denim jackets
blouses with frills or peaked sleeves

i have big shoulders and they make me look like a bouncer

cant wear high waisted anything nor dresses that fit the waist or belly as I’m an apple. Mum jeans are actually horrific on me.

Mrsjayy · 13/09/2022 16:29

Wide legged trousers I'm under 5ft and they just look ridiculous , empire lines too busty. Anything frilly or fussy drowns me . I hate clothes shopping.

Another vote for dungarees.

I agree with you on dungarees. I look ridiculous in them. My DM on the other hand a young looking 81 year old, really rocks them, especially Lucy and Yak ones.

She also rocks double breasted jackets/blazers and used to wear boiler suits/jumpsuits.

I don't think I suit pinafores either, way too busty for them.

Biker jackets. Feel a right prick.

cheapskatemum · 13/09/2022 16:39

@LadyOfTheCanyon (are you a Joni Mitchell fan?) I love your husband's comment Grin. He's a keeper.

For me, it's anything drop waisted, or that doesn't go in at the waist. As a broad shouldered, child-bearing hipped hourglass, I look like a wall, or the back end of a bus.

Agree with the frills and flounces. Yuck and not for me at all. Some people look great in them, not me.

What colours and patterns do people suit/not suit?

I've loved all the greens around this/last season especially grass ones. And have invested wisely in them.
