Not sure what thread number we are up to here but ALL ABOARD if you get JOY from buying and trying beauty products!!!

We sometimes enable but we also share out thoughts, support one another and generally share our love of beauty consumerism!

In a cut up, tape randomly and hope for the best kind of way !

FiveShelties · 25/02/2023 21:07

Three more down, nothing exciting but still count. Mitcham Roll which I use all the time and have many more in the drawer. Lipcote which I have been using whilst I use up lipsticks bought years ago. No 7 Radiant Results Wipes, very handy and another pack somewhere.

I've been having a dot about the thread - inspired at the moment as I've been having a new dressing table built and have much more storage.
So relieved I'm not the only one with a crazy amount of skincare/beauty products.
Just wanted to ask what "HG" means please?

Experiment627 · 25/02/2023 21:47

@LaMarschallin HG means Holy Grail - so a product you would not be without cos it is so damn good.

Experiment627

Ah! Excellent - I'd gathered that it was positive, but it's obviously rather more than that: thank you! Smile

In that case, my HG (see how I just slip into the lingo) is Ren 1 Minute Flash Facial. Makes a huge difference, especially if I've been under the weather (or neglecting my skin Blush).
Annoyingly, it's getting harder to find.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 25/02/2023 23:14

Is the lipcote thing for lipstick that moves all the time any good? I have been thinking about it to make mine last more than 2 min without smudging

Fraaahnces · 26/02/2023 03:45

Very, very drying @Thereislightattheendofthetunnel. It’s an ancient formula when it comes to makeup history and it contains a hell of a lot of alcohol in it. Frankly, I think you would do better to get yourself something like one of the Revlon Colorstay Satin Ink Lipsticks (reasonably enjoyable formula) or the Maybelline equivalent which stay on well. You just need to reapply after eating or drinking anything greasy or fatty. There are heaps of fabulous Korean lip tints in various formulations also, that no matter what you do leave behind a lovely stain. Happy to advise if interested.

FiveShelties · 26/02/2023 06:32

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel yes it does stop lipstick smudging and I use with older lipsticks which do not gave the staying power of the newer types. I am not good with lipsticks so part of the problem could be my impatience. Have not found it drying though, maybe because I don't use it very often.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 26/02/2023 09:59

Thank you both for your insight @Fraaahnces and @FiveShelties.

I have one of the Revlons and it’s my fave to wear in summer. The others from maybelline I own 3 and I like them too, although I prefer revlon.

The problem I have is that before buying those, I had a full box of lipstick that smudge and still want to use up.

I tried wearing a bit of foundation on the lips but it dries up, so I don’t know what else to do other than buying the miracle product.

Kiko milano have a felted lip tint that looks amazing and stays ages on. I love that for the beach or pool. I will take a picture so you can see too.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/02/2023 12:04

Empties update:

13) M&S Fragrance Society Shower Gel - I quite like this range from M&S. It's decent quality, lasts for ages, and the bottle looks nice in the bathroom. Reminds me of MB.

14) Pai Cleansing oil - I usually prefer a balm or foaming cleanser, but this was quite nice. Would happily use again, but probably wouldn't go out and buy it. I have a full size in the stash from my Sephora advent calendar.

Keracolor Silver Clenditioner. If you are ever in a filthy mood on NYE (because you have a broken rib) it’s probably not smart to bleach the ever loving life out of your own hair. (Especially when you don’t dye your hair at all.) White hair makes me look like an anaemic, aging Tweety Bird, so I purchased this product. For the first use, I slathered it through dry hair and left it on for an hour, rinsed it off, towel-dried, re-applied for five mins, rinsed, dried it off and styled it and I had silvery hair that made me look “like a husky” according to DD2. (A compliment. We love them in our house.) Now I use once a week after washing to add silver, and it also imparts moisture and protein so serves as a treatment which my poor, fried head really needs.

Also finished Beauty of Joseon Retinol Eye Serum. Gorgeous, gentle but very effective eye serum that actually made a difference. Would recommend. It’s in an enormous 30ml tube and lasts forever. What’s more, it’s really cheap! I would recommend to anyone. I didn’t repurchase because I have bought a more extreme product. (Big guns!)

Laneige Peach Tea sleeping lip balm. Devastated. This was a limited edition. Loved it. Was my favourite night time one. You know I’m an addict.

Experiment627 · 26/02/2023 15:44

@Fraaahnces how did you break your rib & are you all recovered?

OP posts:
Fraaahnces · 27/02/2023 04:37

@Experiment627 I am fully recovered thanks! And that was a funny story. I have a soft tissue disorder which makes dislocating, sub-luxating joints and breaking smaller bones ridiculously easy. I also have a bestie that I grew up with. (Started school with, played in sandpits with, etc…) who is a mad fool triathlon athlete, CrossFit cult member who decided to pick me up and swing me around in a big greeting. He forgets that he is the Hulk and I am a 5ft broken old fart. (Not at all cross with him, btw. Was peed off with Ehler’s-Danlos Syndrome and aging. I bloody love that guy, even if he is an over-grown golden retriever.)

Experiment627 · 27/02/2023 08:24

@Fraaahnces so glad you are all better!

I have some empties to report:

  • The rest of the Thalgo trial sizes - hand cream, day cream, night cream and body lotion: all ok, the smell is very nostalgic for me, the day cream made me break out. No RP but was nice to have the brought back memories and I so want to go back to the spa where I first was introduced to the brand.
  • Hairburst shampoo & conditioner for oily scalp & roots: so glad I got on offer as full price I would have been well disappointed. The best thing here was the pineapple and coconut scent - which actually could have done with being a bit stronger.
OP posts:
Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 27/02/2023 17:07

I remember I got a Thalgo shower gel as a freebie and loved the spa smell. If I am not mistaken it contained seaweed?

Some empties here:

I finished a couple of Guerlain skincare samples abeille royale and I am gutted I didn’t liked them. Their product is just too sticky for me and I can’t get past that. Smell is nice but the cream and serum does not absorb well on my skin and it sits on top. Glad I got to try them first otherwise my décolletage would have benefited and my wallet would have resented the price. Can’t comment on the benefits as I only applied twice.

Sudocrem huge 400ml tub that we use for little bums. I like it and smells pleasant to me.

Rituals sakura bath foam I am not sure if mine was faulty but it didn’t lather well once it came out of the bottle. The first one I had did. Smells nice but won’t repurchase atm.

Colgate whitening toothpaste my teeth are still the same shade, as toothpaste is ok although I rather not use minty ones.

Jimmy choo fever edp sample I think it’s a fruity gourmand, very nice and sweet and it transported me to a fairground eating cotton candy.

  1. Neal's Yard bath foam, lovely scent. Not too drying on the skin and didn't make me itch anywhere. I won't repurchase as I have other products to get through and prefer bath oil.
  2. Bamford sage hand/body wash. It's fine, not particularly enticing scent, effective cleanser. No way would I pay for full size when so many products do the same job for less money.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/02/2023 18:21

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel was the Guerlain one called Watery Essence or similar? I had a very small sample bottle of that. I wanted to like it, but I think it was made for drier skin than mine.

@Experiment627 I first came across Thalgo at Ragdale Hall. Aiming to go back for my next big birthday.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 27/02/2023 20:45

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants Hi! Yes indeed.
The one you mention is called youth watery oil. The serum is called Double R , renew and repair advanced serum and the cream is just day cream without spf so the stickyness isn’t even justified.

Neither of the 3 works for me, but to be fair I should have known better because the older formulation didn’t suit me either.
Honestly, I think it’s a matter of them having to perfect their product as it doesn’t state anywhere which skin type is meant to work for.

Mine is on the sensitive-dry type so I don’t know if it is meant to be like that…

Imperial Leather mallow and rose milk pampering bath soak - not pictures as husband chucked the empty before I got a pic Shock I really liked this, smelt nice and plenty of bubbles. Nice and cheap too, would RP.

Prai Beauty ageless upper arm creme - I don't think this did anything but I found it pleasant, it had a cooling/soothing effect. At the moment I wouldn't purchase something specifically for my arms so I wouldn't buy this (came in AC).

Body Shop himalayan charcoal purifying clay wash - I love the face mask version of this and also liked this.. but wouldn't RP as I prefer the Vit E face wash and also found getting splatters of this on the shower floor annoying. At first I thought it was some kind of mould Grin

Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2X. I didn’t use two of these - 2X is part of the name. My word, this stuff is effective. I’ve been pottering through this little pot of muck for a couple of years. I paint a thin layer on my face every now and then and it sucks it all tight and o suspect it contains some acids as well. I am not a regular masker (but should make more of an effort, probs). My DDs both nick this as well. It’s quite moussey and light, spreads easily, and is cooling. It’s just a clay mask though. Not remotely hydrating or anything. I also have the mousse in a Can version in my stash. Maybe two. It’s fab as well.

Um... my apologies if this does not help anyone's addiction but Sephora opens on 8 March at Westfield - the one by White City. Fortunately I live miles away!
