Not sure what thread number we are up to here but ALL ABOARD if you get JOY from buying and trying beauty products!!!

We sometimes enable but we also share out thoughts, support one another and generally share our love of beauty consumerism!

That would have been a tragedy @clary

Fraaahnces · 07/10/2022 01:12

@Experiment627 Thanks for asking… Sooooo much better, plus I also have ANOTHER new job (totally different role.) I am now a first aid officer at our city’s cultural centre. (Two concert halls, a new bigger one being built and four theatres.) I had my first shift last night. Fortunately uneventful.

Fraaahnces · 07/10/2022 01:13

*still doing the other one too, btw

Experiment627 · 07/10/2022 09:13

I am so pleased the new job is going well @Fraaahnces and wow for the additional gig - I bet that will be interesting but what a way to serve your city. Amazing!

More empties - an exciting one for me as there's an empty perfume and I never finish perfume!

  • Watermans conditioner - found this in the cupboard with no idea where/when it came from! It was fine though, did the job. Wouldn't repurchase as was nothing special for my hair.
  • DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom - was gifted this a couple of years ago, wouldn't pick it myself. Possibly had gone off a bit, wasn't much scent. Was pleasing to reach the end of a bottle but sadly won't get to make a new purchase as I have plenty more to use.

Lush Sakura bath bomb - husband got me this as he knows I love this one. Would happily have again but not repurchasing at the moment as I enjoyed my bath oil I used recently so going to look into those once my bomb supply is depleted.

Wild sea salt & Cotton deodorant - I really liked this, BUT at the end it doesn't twist up far enough so you have a load of product leftover you either need to scoop out like a savage or chuck. It was probably 3 weeks worth so I went for the savage approach, but it annoyed me. I have a few refills in so will use them, but I probably won't repurchase unless they change this as I don't want deodorant under my nails.

Body Shop drops of youth sheet mask - from last years advent calendar, nice enough. Prefer masks you brush on rather than sheet so probably won't repurchase.

Using up AC buys reminds me I still need to get one sorted for this year!

Was encouraged arm wrestled a few years ago into buying something from a friends Avon catalogue , a perfume I've never liked . Came across it on Friday , gave it a spray and then went to the bathroom to wash it off . Binned.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/10/2022 11:38

The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics. No idea what this was meant to do but I don't think it did anything.

No 7 serum. This is my go to serum. I like it but think it's time to move up an age bracket in the range. I have a few to get through though first.

As usual I am an infrequent attender to this thread because I never seem to get to the end of things. But, today, I have empties.

Pai, rosehip bioregenerate facial oil - I liked the oil but the smell was off putting. I would try another facial oil with them if I knew it would have a nicer smell.

Smashbox, photofinish primer - a regular for me but to be honest I am a bit bored of it. Time to try something new.

Espa, grounding crystals - smelt divine. A definite repeat.

John Freida, frizz ease, miraculous recovery deep conditioner - I wouldn’t call it miraculous but it was fine.

Versed, dew point moisturizing gel cream - I didn’t expect to like this but it was great. The perfect weight for the summer. Will buy again next summer.

BrushedBrass · 10/10/2022 08:41

Hi all, rather than starting a new thread I thought that I would be able to find likeminded compatriots who would be able to advise me, here! 😊

I am pretty terrible at saving expensive skincare products for… best? Special occasions? “One day I’ll get into a good AM and PM routine, when I’m less tired?”

I have recently moved house and it is ridiculous how many bags/boxes of stuff I brought with me. But I couldn’t face chucking it all because it was expensive, lovely stuff (often brand new!).

I’m now at the stage where these boxes need unpacking but I’m not sure what to do for the best. Should I just clear out the lot and start afresh, or should I keep them (god knows how to store them!) and try to work through them? I’m 50/50 right now. Thank you! 😊

Zeeza · 10/10/2022 08:53

I am the same as you.

First of all you must make the resolution that today is always a special day and you deserve the best you have.

Then I suggest going through your stuff and keeping only that which you would buy again. If you wouldn't look forward to using it, bin it. The money has gone. What you have now are products that will either make you happy or unhappy.

With the unhappy ones if you bin them you will feel annoyed once but quickly forget, if you keep them they will make you feel bad for ages.

Then try using them. If they don't look or smell right, bin them. If you think you are getting a reaction, bin them.

So that's my suggestion. And start using the ones you like best of all first. They are aging. We are all aging. Go for it.

PomRuns · 10/10/2022 10:04

I would highly recommend writing headings in a planner / spreadsheet - this really helped me. At one point I had 25 face creams - now I have 4 and that reduction was within the past year.
it made it so much easier not to buy things plus I added up all the headings. It was over 150… now, less than 40…

throw out anything iffy smelling. Donate anything you won’t use.
lots of luck !

wheresmyshoe · 10/10/2022 10:34

I've just finished Augustinus Bader the rich cream, it's seriously chunky packaging for 15ml of product!
I disliked the smell but it worked nicely on my skin, not a rebuy as I think the RRP on it is overblown but I won't be disappointed if another (inevitably) arrives in an advent or GWP.

Zeeza · 10/10/2022 11:26

Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Perfectly good. Might buy again but I have advent stuff to use up and I will probably get a trial set of living proof next time I have to buy.

Ren overnight glow 15ml. This was a small sample. I didnt notice much difference. It was nice enough, but I already use acids and vitamin c so I didn't notice a vast difference.

Marks and spencer provenance seaweed shower gel and body butter. The scent was absolutely amazing. It's probably my shower gel of choice, but I'm trying to move away from soaps and shower gel as my skin ages and gets drier. The body butter was very good too.

Grumpyoldma · 10/10/2022 12:11

Can I join? Serious beauty product addiction here. One year I had 6 beauty advent calendars and I've still loads of stuff left from them.

Really trying not to buy more, thankfully I am totally broke this month!

Grumpyoldma · 10/10/2022 12:14

Re Augustinus Bader the rich cream, I had two 15 mil bottles from advent calendars and agree there's hardly any product inside a big bottle. As far as the product goes, I don't see how they can justify how much this stuff costs. I didn't notice any difference at all in my skin, just made it greasy actually.

Zeeza · 10/10/2022 12:37

I quite like the AB rich cream. It doesn't clog my pores and it is nice and protective on this stinking cold, wet mornings.

I wouldn't dream of buying it though 😌😉

Experiment627 · 10/10/2022 15:24

Such good advice @Zeeza Also that shower gel sounds amazing!!!

Welcome @Grumpyoldma! Great username!

I have one empty:

  • Clairol Natural Instincts brilliant shine conditioner: this came in the hairdye pack. Best hair dye conditioner I have EVER used! Amazeballs!

More empties to report - very therapeutic posting them on here 😂

Lancome Precious Cells Lip Balm not loving this, very gloopy and sticky so my search for the holy grail of lip balms continues

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel - rice milk and cherry blossom - I love the gel to foam shower gels but find them quite tricky to use with wet hands in the shower so tend to over squirt and use up really quickly so probably not vfm

Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot love MB and trying to use my stash before buying more especially as the prices have rocketed. They must be missing me as I got a 20% of anything voucher to win me back so I bought some for Christmas gifts only (feeling virtuous!)

Aurelia Miracle Cleanser love this cleanser, was a RP from a previous calendar. Not so keen on the pump dispenser as you can see I had to get physical to get about 25% of the product out of the bottom

A face mask from an M&S beauty box. I like the idea of a mask that you only leave on for 2-3 minutes but it was really gloopy and didn't do much.

Face wash I found in the bathroom press. My dd got it a few years ago in H&B so I decided to put it out of its misery and finish it off. It was fine but I'm not a fan of foaming face wash. I much prefer a balm.

Fleecy · 11/10/2022 21:15

My daughter loves that Aurelia cleanser - was in one of the Next beauty Christmas boxes last year. She asked me to RP on her behalf, but I said she could pay for it herself and so she's going without 😂

CurlyFerret · 11/10/2022 21:35

@Fleecy its not cheap that’s for sure! I’ve got a mini Emma Hardie pot to use up but I find this a bit harsh after the Aurelia so I can see me going back for more

Fleecy · 11/10/2022 21:39

I'll probably get her some for Christmas if it's in a suitable box/cracker. One of the Next crackers has it, but it's teeny tiny. Better than nothing though!

CurlyFerret · 12/10/2022 08:16

@Fleecy I shouldn’t have looked at the Aurelia site…15% off your first order and they have an advent calendar…

Fleecy · 12/10/2022 09:13

I had a look at that - only just over £100 if you use the welcome code. 30ml of the cleanser, which is the same as in a Next cracker at £12, so I think I'll just get her the cracker. DD is only 16, so a lot of skincare is too old for her skin.

I do like Aurelia products though!
