I asked the hairdresser for a pixie cut. Showed her a photo and everything.

She's practically shaved my head. I didn't realise it was happening as she came to my home and I foolishly didn't set up a mirror so I could see what was going on. She's cut my hair once before. Never again. I have about half an inch all over. Half a fucking inch. Yes, I paid her - just to get her out of my house before I did something irreversible and possibly criminal.

I realise I just have to live with it and allow it to grow out. I've got a few cotton scarves that I will now wear round my head for the next few months.

Fuckssake. I'm not even sure why I'm posting, except to have someone understand why I'm upset. OH says "it'll grow back" and "it's not that bad"....I just want to wail..

Honestly, in a few weeks you'll be loving it.

SarahAndQuack · 04/08/2022 20:45

That is absolutely not a pixie cut!

I am in the camp who think it looks good on you (but I have very short hair and would love that cut). It is not half an inch, it's more than that, but I can see how it would make you feel very exposed.

IME, weirdly, it's what you do with your face that makes the most difference to a short haircut, not what you do with your hair. Lashings of mascara and pretty eyeshadow suddenly make something that could look a bit butch/blokey look deliberate gamine.

I wouldn't dye it but I would get some texture wax and experiment with it on the fringe bit - you want it to look tousled rather than stiff; stiff spikes are what make it look more like a man's haircut, I think.

Madamecastafiore · 04/08/2022 20:47

You're lucky, it's hot and sunny, buy a fedora and don't take it off for a couple of weeks. At least you e not got to sweat whilst blow drying it each day. Always a bright side see!!

TwoMonthsOff · 04/08/2022 20:48

@Baldieheid
those Snoop/land girl scarves are pretty cool …you’re right
maybe come back in a few weeks with an update

JaneJeffer · 04/08/2022 20:52

Try some funky hairbands?

I wouldn't dye because then you have roots to contend with as well Confused

In 2000 I asked for a Victoria Beckham pixie. I looked like Des from Neighbours

😂😂😂

plinkypots · 04/08/2022 20:55

I'd go for a 1920s style hair band or scarf....she gave you a man's haircut!

Baldieheid · 04/08/2022 20:57

I don't wear much make up, not on a daily basis, but that's a good call. Ill be lashing on the mascara from now on. I feel I look very butch. That's fine if that's the intended look but it's not what I wanted. I just cried as I emptied the hoover into the bin.
To answer a question, yes, she used clippers. I thought she had a long guard on them but no...

LucyLoopyLu · 04/08/2022 21:01

Oh no, so sorry you don't like it. I think your inspiration pic is quite a short pixie but agree you've been given shorter than the photo. This happened to me once and it was a bit of a shock but I did genuinely get used to it within a week or so and it does grow so fast at that length.

Definitely slap on some extra mascara and some blusher etc if you have it. Honestly don't worry though or feel self conscious because I don't think it looks bad and it will grow out so so fast

SarahAndQuack · 04/08/2022 21:05

You poor love - I do get how you feel!

BoopTheFoof · 04/08/2022 21:06

Baldieheid · 04/08/2022 19:26

It's probably been done well but omfg, I asked for the bloody pixie cut...

You are very brave to post. I think it will be better with some product on it to smooth down and get it to look like the photo
It looks like she put clippers on it

quietnightmare · 04/08/2022 21:07

Don't panic OP a few weeks and it will be the style you asked for. Also remember every woman has a dogey haircut now and then

BoopTheFoof · 04/08/2022 21:10

I asked my lovely hairdresser to do this and she did it beautifully but she didn't want to do it🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't do it again! She told me not to tel anyone she had done it 🤣🤣🤣

They never do it like the pictures (apologies if you are a hairdresser who can). I've even taken pictures of the way they did it last time, as a memory aid, and it still hasn't worked!

Hairdressers are amongst the most unfit-for-purpose profession there is. Sorry, but it’s true.

Unless you have straight hair, or hair they can blow dry straight and then cut, forget it. Confused

It's way shorter than you asked for obviously. Hairdressers do wtf they like in my experience. I'm not surprised you are annoyed.
Luckily for you, I think it will grow out to resemble something similar to what you have asked for... I too want an update in 3 weeks!

@EntertainingandFactual I used to agree with you until I met the current hairdresser I use now. She is amazing! She does things gradually, happily tells you if something will not suit you. She is fab! Smile

Gherkingreen · 04/08/2022 21:22

It's super short and not what you asked for but, it suits you and it'll grow in no time.
I'd whack in some earrings and stick a bit of make up on (eyes/brows/blusher), style it with some wax and play the waiting game...let us know how you feel in a few days!

lollipoprainbow · 04/08/2022 21:25

I remember asking for an Anthea Turner cut years ago hoping for it to be all feathery, it looked nothing of the sort, I was gutted !

GoT1904 · 04/08/2022 21:28

I've never had this happen to me, but Sabrina the Teenage witch's best friend had a bad haircut and walked round for weeks repeating her mantra of "hair grows"

I too would be upset OP. She's done short back and sides :/ I hope others are right and in a few weeks it will look more like what you asked for.

Baldieheid · 04/08/2022 21:30

Thank you all so much for your kindness. I know it's hardly a big deal in the big scheme of things. It's just hair and it'll grow back. I am a bit shocked at how strongly I hate it, as I'm pretty relaxed about the odd cut not being exactly how I wanted it. This just feels brutal atm.

itsnotmeitsu · 04/08/2022 21:37

I was told that nails and hair grow quicker in the summer due to sweat and oils - can't remember why this was the case. This made sense to me as I noticed the difference in growth. Hopefully for you, OP, this means you won't have to wait too long for your hair to grow out, if that's what you want.

Thehonestybox · 04/08/2022 21:38

Wtf! Did she use clippers rather than scissors?!

You can style it out for a month until it grows back though. Personally I'd dye it orange and experience life as Annie lennox for a few weeks.

EntertainingandFactual · 04/08/2022 21:38

@OddSocksandRainbowDocs

I'm glad you have found a good one!

I am on haircut 2 with a new hairdresser and so far so good!
I have been to so many hairdressers over the last 40+ years and only a few have listened & tried to do what I ask for.

So many hairdressers are really overconfident, self professed experts who claim to know everything about my hair without listening.

The most common mistake they make is when they say 'OOOh, aren't you lucky to have such thick straight, hair, I'll thin it out when I've got the shape..."
No, you won't! I have loads of very fine hair, thinning it out makes it whispy and flyaway - It is also very wavy but thanks to the magic of hairbrushes and straighteners, it looks straight when both wet & dry.

So many have been utterly confused when they watch it frizz up uncontrollably when they have 'thinned it out' and attempt to dry it.

L I S T E N. T O. M E !
I have lived with my annoying hair for decades and you have only just met me!

Jenda · 04/08/2022 21:39

Ah OP I'm sorry that absolutely sucks..similar happened to me a few years ago, it wasn't pixie but dramatically shorter than I asked for and a terrible cut. I felt so exposed. I bloody tipped her! It's going to be hot next week so you will be able to get away with wearing some nice hats or caps. I reckon in a couple of weeks you'll be able to style it to the side slightly to make it more like how you wanted.

I know how upsetting it is even though you know hair isn't a big deal, it's such a shock
