I've been butchered

I asked the hairdresser for a pixie cut. Showed her a photo and everything.

She's practically shaved my head. I didn't realise it was happening as she came to my home and I foolishly didn't set up a mirror so I could see what was going on. She's cut my hair once before. Never again. I have about half an inch all over. Half a fucking inch. Yes, I paid her - just to get her out of my house before I did something irreversible and possibly criminal.

I realise I just have to live with it and allow it to grow out. I've got a few cotton scarves that I will now wear round my head for the next few months.

Fuckssake. I'm not even sure why I'm posting, except to have someone understand why I'm upset. OH says "it'll grow back" and "it's not that bad"....I just want to wail..

You definitely didn't get what you asked for. How much did you pay?

CookPassBabtridge · 04/08/2022 19:47

When I cut my sons hair it always look too harsh, then after a week and beyond it's perfect. Scarf until then 😆 Sorry she was scissor/shaver happy, so many of them about.

23Elfie · 04/08/2022 19:48

I wonder if you use a scarf like you said or one of those Alice bands with the knot on the top if that will show off the length on the top but distract from the short sides? As others have said hopefully in a couple of weeks the back will begin to grow out a bit and you'll have a bit of length on the top to style to the side like the girl in the photo x

MarshaMelrose · 04/08/2022 19:53

Op, my very biggest sympathies. It happened to me when I was 20. Every time I caught sight of myself, in mirrors, shop windows, I just burst into tears. I wore a bobble hat throughout summer. I feel your pain.
Two things I learned.

  1. It will never grow slower than it will over the next few weeks.
  2. Constantly tugging on your hair does not, sadly, make it longer.
whatwoulddexterdo · 04/08/2022 19:57

I actually really like your hairstyle and I'm not just saying that to make you feel better.
It will grow back very quickly and the condition will probably be better.

Momtotwokids · 04/08/2022 20:01

That happened to me in March. Showed her a picture of me and how my hair was. Wanted it to my shoulder. Still waiting for that. The first thing my husband said was "I didn't think you wanted it that short and the second thing " it's not bad". I cried and feel your pain.

kateandme · 04/08/2022 20:01

Maybe try some product.to swish it over to the side a bit?it’s very styled to sit straight where as the pics flow towards a side don’t they.might be worth a try.
sorry you are so upset by it op.did you complain.it’s clearly not a pixie cut of your pictures.
please no it will grow out sooner than you think.your hair is not you or your worth, try and rock it the best you can.
do some other pampering or and self care this weekend to balance these shitty feelings out.
what do you like to do in your time?go and do it.get your mindset back into feeling good again.

hattie43 · 04/08/2022 20:02

That's a blokes haircut .
I'd just gel the fringe to the side as best you can .
Hair grows quickly it'll be fine

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 04/08/2022 20:02

In 2000 I asked for a Victoria Beckham pixie. I looked like Des from Neighbours

Squidlette · 04/08/2022 20:02

They never do it like the pictures (apologies if you are a hairdresser who can). I've even taken pictures of the way they did it last time, as a memory aid, and it still hasn't worked!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/08/2022 20:03

Get some wax and do your fringe a la Simon in The Inbetweeners
Never leave the house without washing your neck and behind your ears

I didn't discuss "short" with my hairdresser , I was so fecking scalped it took 6 weeks growing to get "short"

FlamingoQueen · 04/08/2022 20:03

In 2 weeks time it will look fab! Can you put a bit of gel in it for now? I had a horribly short haircut a few months ago - wanted something different. I’ve now changed hairdressers! If you smooth the top to one side it will probably look similar. It’s not awful - please bear that in mind.

I was perversely disappointed when I saw this wasn't a story about plastic surgery gone wrong! So at least you didn't get that, OP!

Me too! GrinGrinGrin

Anjo2011 · 04/08/2022 20:05

Happened to me too . I wasn’t meant to do a late shift after an early hair appointment I was so upset I went sick. But as everyone says it grows . I agree a couple of weeks it will be lovely.

Katypyee · 04/08/2022 20:06

Gosh, I am sorry. That is not a pixie cut. Luckily our hair grows back. Best find an new hairdresser!

TwoMonthsOff · 04/08/2022 20:09

Have to admit that is extreme
it looks good though must be a bit of a shock and I get you feel self conscious you have the face to carry it though. In a months time it will be a lot longer

MarbleGolden · 04/08/2022 20:14

Crikey, you look like a bloke. At least it will grow back Flowers

NotSoSlimShady8 · 04/08/2022 20:21

Oh no 😞. What a daft cow , surely she knew it wasn’t alike. Just like everyone else is saying it will grow back incredibly quick (I had to have this same cut and was left no choice due to chemical damage when I was about 19) I was devastated but honestly within a couple of weeks it was at a length that I was happy with.

I don’t know you as a person but for me personally, I would feel better (a sense of closure) if I called the hairdresser and said .. look, I was being polite earlier, I’m so incredibly upset and it’s not what I asked for at all (send side by side pics) and in a polite manner demand some (if not all) money back and atleast get an apology out of her 💁‍♀️ Might make you feel a weeny bit less shafted X

That made me laugh, thank you!

Thank you everyone. I paid £20 so not a fortune, for a mobile hairdresser who is never touching my head again.

There's no styling at all in my pic, just a blast with the dryer so there's a chance I could make it look better.

I'm going to focus on learning how to tie headscarves for now. Any tips?

TwoMonthsOff · 04/08/2022 20:31

@Baldieheid
hehe love the username but you aren’t baldie 😭
i think use the opportunity now to do a lovely vivid colour maybe a dark plum
it’s really not that bad I’m sure you look lovely

Baldieheid · 04/08/2022 20:35

If I dye it, do I put dye on the super short, shaved bits too? The skin is so fecking white. I look like I've got mange.

OP posts:
TwoMonthsOff · 04/08/2022 20:37

@Baldieheid
thats a dilemma and it would stain your scalp you’re right
any hairdressers here to advise ?

Baldieheid · 04/08/2022 20:39

Maybe if I wait a few weeks for a little recovery growth, then dye it? I'm wearing a scarf for rest of August anyway so why waste a dye job.

LubaLuca · 04/08/2022 20:44

Did she use clippers on the back and sides? It's a really masculine cut, but as others have said it won't take long to soften and get to a decent length again.
