Hello fragrant friends,

Yes, that was it! @Chevyimpala67 I don't think they included that bit in the TV adaptation. Agatha Christie is one of the authors I turn to when I need a bit of comfort - I must have read and watched them all by now. 📖😊

Isn't this thread wonderful @ThreeImaginaryBoys A truly happy corner of the Internet. 😊 I was a lurker before I joined and keep thinking how amazing it is that it's been sprinkling fragrant joy and inspiration for 10 years. This thread has genuinely been a much needed retreat and comfort for me during some difficult times. It has broadened my horizons too. I've definitely become much more adventurous and have discovered so many wonderful new fragrances thanks to the perfumistas on here. Here's to another 10 years! 😊🥂

SOTD is liberal spritzings of the Coty Lavender Cologne my mum gave me, to cut through this awfully humid and sticky weather we're having. It's so darn oppressive - I'm thoroughly over summer. I want it to pour with rain!

Me too.
I'm soooo hot 🔥 🥵

I love this little corner of sanity in an increasingly mad world 🌎 ❤️

Ooh, I've just noticed, yesterday I was so distracted by books Grin I forgot to mention how I got on with all my samples.

So:

L'heure Bleue - Love it, love it, love it. Powdery violets and iris, curls of fragrant woody smoky incense, spicy star anise and CLOVES! It's chock full of cloves. Definitely FB worthy for me.

LADDM/ACDD - Hmm, I thought these would be a sure thing, and while I don't think they're terrible, it's not love either. They're just okay to me. I think it's because I can smell the ISO E Super really strongly, and I just don't perceive this as it's intended, it reads like hand sanitiser and gloss paint too my nose! So, while I loved the really spicy opening, I didn't get the oriental dry down I expected. It just smelled sharp. They are really similar, but I prefer ACDD of the two, as it's warmer - I was surprised to find LADDM quite cool in feel - I suppose this is the 'airiness' alluded to in reviews.

Lonestar Memories - I quite like this, it's warm and inviting and I love the unusual smoke and muskiness. Need to spend more time wearing it.

I could never visit a sauna, it would remind me too much of being home. Confused I got out of the shower this afternoon, dried myself and was almost immediately damp again. 🚿😩

Am just looking at the weather and it's going to be like this for the next TWO WEEKS! I really, really want our boring, wet, windy, freeeezing English summers back. Pretty please?

SOTN is Tarts Knicker Drawer, because my mum was burning incense earlier, and this reminds me of the purple incense cones she used to burn when I was small. Happy memories.

Trying YSL Libre (EDP) today - got it as a free sample with something else. Lavender, orange blossom and vanilla. It reminds me of Mon Guerlain, though a bit more white floral to my nose. I get the feeling this one is going to last all day, it's pretty strong stuff.

SOTD Green Water Jacques Fath, neroli bergamot and herbs very refreshing in the heat. I ordered the samples following @MissBattleaxe recommendation here. (I'm on holiday in France and had them delivered to the accommodation, I feel things have gone too far now!)

🙂👍🤣
Excellent

Chevyimpala67 · 03/08/2022 11:31

I ordered some bath and body works fireside flurries shower gel and it arrived today.
Oh, it's lush 😍
I just need the autumnal weather to use it!
I think my new perfumes arrive tomorrow happy dance

@FestivelyScent I LOVE ACDD by Andy tauer...you are right it's much smoother than LADDM and is the extrait version. I quite like LADDM too.
I loathe l 'huere bleu. Thanks to you now I know why! Its the cloves and anise 🤢

Cantonet · 03/08/2022 12:41

Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien is Sotd.
The lemon 🍋 notes are great but then the cypress smells like green sludge.
Also my Idle perfume by Romilly Wilde just smells like toxic sludge 🥲.
I guess I will be e baying loads of perfumes, as I'm not having much success selling on the Facebook sites.
The Jacques Fath perfume sounds so lovely & refreshing. I get you about the perfume obsession. I used to be like that too.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 03/08/2022 21:44

SOTD is Dior Homme Intense. I was looking for a lipstick-y scent and this got rave reviews. It doesn't disappoint. My husband said 'it reminds me of the smell of my mum kissing me goodnight before she went out for the night'. He's right. It's got that powder compact vibe about it.

Glad you love L'Heure Bleue, @FestivelyScent. It's wonderful.

Chevyimpala67 · 03/08/2022 21:57

The heat is making me feel really unwell:(

Ugh.

Sote avon lbd the dress 👗. This is very fresh.

Matching @CorneliaStreet today in YSL Libre. A student brought me a sample of this last year because he remembered I liked lavender, and I bought a full bottle shortly afterwards.

Weirdly post Covid this was one of the first things I could smell - a different student was wearing it in a class and I got really excited that I could smell her perfume!

@Chevyimpala67 you should move here. It is peeing rain and I just put a cardigan on. I had to drag the cat in from under a bush earlier, she didn’t want to run through the rain to the back door (and was remarkably dry in her hidey hole really).

It's a dream of mine to love to love to the NW/Scotland.

All that lovely drizzle 🙂

Chevyimpala67 · 03/08/2022 22:51

FestivelyScent · 03/08/2022 23:59

@Chevyimpala67 This weather is making me feel ill too - I've never felt so lifeless and exhausted, and just can't seem to shake that headach-y feeling.

Dior Homme sounds wonderful @ThreeImaginaryBoys Powdery compact is definitely my sort of thing - must sniff next time I'm near a tester. L'heure Bleue has gone straight onto my FB wishlist! 😊

I, too, would love to move to the north of England or Scotland (or Ireland, though I've never visited!). Better weather (from my perspective - I love rain and snow), and everyone is much friendlier than here in London. Both of these are really noticeable. There's a sort of freshness and movement in the air rather than the stale stillness you get here; and everyone was so smiley and chatty and warmer and actually talked to you in queues, restaurants, shops etc.

As an aside, I keep reading that the temps we are seeing are quite normal English summers. They really aren't. Temps regularly above 26/27 for days on end has never ever been the norm for us. This is a recent thing. We had the odd scorching day, but that's it. 23/24/25 are more what I remember at best. Those few degrees make a difference. Even then all that was interspersed with lots and lots of refreshing rain. It hasn't rained here for weeks, bar a few measly drops. I dread the fact it might get worse.

SOTD was Samsara.

SOTN is Miss Dior Originale. I needed a bit of brightness and greenery, because the grass is dead here for miles around, and most plants look very sad and droopy. The only green grass I've seen in a while was from the window of a bus - the carpeted lawns of a gated Private Estate/community, it was so lush and manicured. Not for much longer though! I'm sure we are going to have a hosepipe ban imposed any day now.

SOTD Chanel Gardenia
Much as I’m tempted by all the mentions on this thread, I must resist buying any new fragrances as have been told off by OH for my beauty spend recently. Luckily I’ve got some nice ones already to get on with!

SOTD is JM Peony & Blush Suede. This is one of the better lasting JM perfumes on me and I’ve worked out it’s even better if I spray some in my hair too (that’s probably true of most perfumes though, I suppose).

Chevyimpala67 · 04/08/2022 11:32

My ck reveal arrived...
Hmm. It's rather nice. Light and powdery. I'll await the dry down.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 04/08/2022 12:37

SOTD is Dior Homme Intense again. Loving it.

FestivelyScent · 04/08/2022 18:05

SOTD was Samsara, for a hospital trip. Long and tiring day - need a nap.
